  1. Mine was a black '96 N with circa 60k for a little less than that, plus it came with wheels and bodykit, so I think that price you mention might be a little on the high side for an older car. Depends though, if the car is A1 mint then it might well be worth a higher premium... Certain colours seems to be more desirable (or less common). Black seemed to be more desirable, with colours like red and white less so. Silver is a very common colour for supes. No worries, we are all newbies really, it's just that some are less 'new' than others lol. I've only had one since March this year. PS: You're going to love the strong, unstressed 3l 2jz-gte after comming from highly tuned 2l engines!
  2. Hey I was in exactly the same pos as you a few months ago. I decided IMHO that UK spec manual 6 speed was not worth the wait. The lack of choice severly limits your options, so I decided that a j-spec would be fine and I haven't regreted that decision at all since. TBH the main thing that a UK spec car gets you that is worth having is the uk spec brakes, but you can just upgrade them and a complete brand new set can be purchased here via a group buy for sub £500! Thats for new brakes, probably better than the tired old ones your going to get on a car that is several years old now... Other than that, most of the other differences aren't really worth worrying about. J-spec turbos can't handle quite as much boost, but they spool almost instantly with no lag which makes the car very responsive! The better choice of j-spec cars means you are much more likely to find something that matches what you want, when you want it and for a price you can afford...

    Advice Please

If you want a manual, stick with it! I wanted a manual, saw so many autos (like 5 autos to every manual) that I nearly caved in. Sooo so glad I held out for the manual now though, it's an amazing box and you never get bored of 6 gears Best thing is not to be in a rush when getting one, take your time to find a nice example of what you want, there are a fair few around now. For MPG, I'd say maybe 20mpg is realistic, dropping to sub 10mpg if you boot it! Extreme careful driving on a run may see mid 25s to 30mpg. Haven't measured mine but I think thats about right. Thats for a fairly standard to BPU car, for a single, hmm no idea but I expect its very low indeed! (anyone got any figures?) Supra's are very strong, so they don't have many faults! I'd check for obvious abuse and bodywork damage/condition obviously. You can get some real bargains if you are after a modded car, but be careful not to by a car that's been botched. if you really want a massively powerful single turbo'd car then buying one ready done will probably save you a lot of money, but you've got to be 100% it's been done properly. I'd advice getting a reasonable standard one (engine wise at least) that still has it's stock twin turbo's and gradually getting the mods done yourself as and when you want them, that way you know whats what and end up with exactly what you want, even if it does cost a bit more. Look for smoke on start-up, smoke when accelerating. listen for any whines from the turbos. The engine should be smooth and sweet, when idling all you should hear is the injectors clicking pretty much Watch out for cars that have been running excessive boost. no more than 1.2 for a standard jap spec or the turbos will be a ticking time bomb... I hope that helps a bit!
  4. They are both nice but IMHO Equips are far nicer, but then I might be biased lol
  5. I'm already seeing 0.9-1.0 bar on my j-spec with both cats in still! and I'm about to de-cat *yikes* - I'll be fitting the restrictor ring to start with thats for sure...
  6. lol glad I'm not the only one. I do tend to get used to it after a while, it's just the shock after not driving it for days because I hack around in a cheap Clio - bit of a contrast! Once you're moving they are amazing, it's just that initial pull away thats tricky! I tend to adopt a style of "not stopping" wherever possible

    New Wheels

IMHO, 4 is all round disgusting 5 blergh, looks like it belongs on a BMW or Porker 6 suits a porker or a merc better 1,2 and 3 arn't too bad. I'd go for 2 because it looks like it has a bit of a dish on it, and that can make the supe look quite mean, especially on the rear... I think 1 might work, undecided about 3. I'd go for 1 or 2, number 2 being my first choice of that lot. Have you looked at any Work wheels? They make some nice ones.
  8. Great meet last night, good to see all of you and your supes! Good venue too, managed to clear all the bumps except a slight scrape over the first one on the way out, only minor though! I really enjoyed the drive around town, think we might have just caught the attention of a few locals Lez, nice one for arranging it, get that TT! you won't regret it! For me, driving round town with that competition clutch was a real challenge lol, but it's getting easier - time now for that double de-cat for some extra pep
  9. If you want something as an alternative to a clifford for a good price, I can highly recommend the Toad AI606, an excellent, fuss free, modular alarm system
  10. Cheers mate! See you tomorrow.
  11. Anyone got a digital camera that they wouldn't mind bringing along? I know there won't be much daylight but I would like some pics of my supe and i've not got around to getting my own yet, lol.
  12. Nice one... has it got a turbo? Innit... Reminds me of this afternoon - I was polishing the car and a little lad (about 7) came by and asked me if it was a turbo, I told him it has two, so he asked if i fitted the second one... lol.
  13. I think they have a 'service' in places like Boots that tells you things like that... don't quote me on it though.
  14. It's from Paul Wiffin, a two part 2.5" pipe with a suitable restrictor ring that should keep the boost below 1.2 bar - has the o2 sensor fitting for when I fit a wideband True it's not really bling, just perhaps not essential right now. I totally agree with you and my plan is to get the emanage on there at some point soon Sounds like I should get an EGT gauge fitted sooner than later then to keep checks on things? I look forward to the stage when it's all been mapped and dyno'd, just need to get there incrementally at the moment unless I find a spare money tree or get a pay rise lol thanks for all the help
  15. This is my girlfriends fave. ------------------------- And the jaffa CAKE is not just a cake it's got a split personality, sometimes it's cake... sometimes it's biscuit! And for the biscuit war, it would be a biscuit! Let's not forget.. PARTY RINGS!!!! And this is what i found when i put jaffa cake into google images...
  16. I'd be backing the Jaffa Cakes all the way. It's got layers to give better protection, and please don't underestimate the durability of it's soft squishy centre. [i've heard that some companies have started considering it for tyres!] Custard Creams aren't to be overlooked, they are tough little blighters!
  17. Been on the sauce by chance?
  18. You won't be losing that grin for a long time
  19. Ok thanks for the advice, I think I'm tending to agree with you now, it makes a lot of sense really. I was getting caught up in the bling of the emanage lol Think the plan is now: Get the exhaust fitted Fit a VFCD if required Fit UK spec brakes Fit a Walbro fuel pump and FPR Then think about the emanage, wideband etc think this is the best route, Wayne, when would you be available to fit the exhaust? I'm tempted to have a go on Monday myself but without a pit/ramp it's probably going to be a PITA lol
  20. Yep they're just like my j-spec front brakes, you will probably want to consider upgrading those to Uk spec as Nic says, I plan to asap! Many peope have said it's the single most important mod to do on a j-spec car, before you get caught up in the headyness of tuning lol
  21. Predicament: I have here a nice shiny new double de-cat pipe and restrictor waiting to go on my car I'd obviously like to get this fitted asap but I'm a tad low on spare funds. I'm wondering if I'm going to hit fuel cut with the extra boost and if I do what I could do about it. I could spend £70 on a vfcd as a temporary measure, but then that’s £70 wasted that could better be spent on an Emanage ultimate (which can also do fuel cut and is what I _really_ want). So here are my options: Leave it for now and wait until I have the spare cash for the Emanage Fit exhaust and risk it, drive carefully if it happens Fit exhaust, fit VFCD temporarily if required (£70 is more affordable) Fit exhaust, beg/borrow/steal money for a Emanage Ultimate You might well all say the last option, suppose I need to consider that my j-spec fuel pump might also be a weak link? Any opinions or ideas?
  22. yeah for sure, not arguing with that Nice to see a review of an older, no longer in production car - think it shows it's stood the test of time very well...
  23. Auto costing more than a manual - thats most definitely not my experience when looking for one! Interesting review though 5.8 0-60? that must be about the slowest time for a TT they could have found? Shame they didn't notice the 4.9s official time for later manuals.
  24. Sorry James and it was Sky Digi.
