Sheefa
So, took delivered of my full new rear OEM suspension today! Extremely pleasing on the eye, and eye-watering on the wallet! All new bolts and bushings etc too. Great deal from Paul at TCB.   My existing suspension is in good condition as car has been garaged for 18 years+ but wanted to buy all new before all stock runs out. Now I need to decide what you use to protect it all from rust in future. I'm planning to go down the POR-15 route with a couple of nice metallic dark grey top coats and a few lacquer layers. The car will only be out in the dry and is always garaged in a dry garage with dehumidifier.  What do traders and others who have done similar recommend please? Powder coating won't work given it'll melt the bushes etc.  Appreciate your advice.  Thank Greg

Westy
Nice mate....is that every arm required or every arm that TCB stock? They only stock the ones with most common failures but I wish they would do a GB on everything and sell as a package...I'm sure there would be interest
Sheefa
Hi mate Every arm got it shipped to TCB from Japan which took a few weeks.  It's the full rear except for drop-links which I have already. Greg

My front and rear compete setup came from TCB yesterday I only unwrapped a few items to have a quick look. I am just waiting for the original rust free subframe coming in the docks in a few weeks then I am ready for the rear sub frame big build. Then the front subframe & arms etc. too I just hope it gets easier to do the 2nd time round when I do the other supra:) The only problem is now I want everything new as its so much easier than refurbishing! ripped_fear
What you need to do is get some sand paper and scuff them up nicely then cover in salt and leave outside for a week. They will look lovely then

When I bought all new OEM arms front and rear I wish I done this first before fitting. The Toyota coating is terrible IMO. Nice. How much was that total mate? When I replaced all the OEM front, rear arms, drop links and ARB bushes came to just under 3K.
Sheefa
Rear suspension was just under £2k all in without drop links. Will probably bite the bullet on fronts now in April too.  Thanks Rob will look into kephos too. The OEM coating looks durable on the face of it but clearly isn't!

Sheefa
Ah right mate. Are you going to do anything to them? It must be a simple answer I'm hoping to ensure they're rust free for many years. Â Â

Rob W
You haven't got to bother with the front and rear uppers, it's just the front and rear lowers I'd suggest you doing.

Scooter
Why coat them at all, they just sit under the car? the bushes will be gone again at some point in the future even if you coat them now and they look pristine then? Buying all new bits makes total sense, coating to me less so? is it an ocd thing! mplavery
Nice !!  Going to have to do this at some stage I think I would just paint the With Hammerite
Sheefa
The lower ones do get really rusty mate and yes it is more OCD than anything else. I think the car will be dead before it outlives this set of new bushes given it only does about 1k miles a year. Â Â Â
Scooter
fair enough :)i've got too much on topside to worry about the appearance of these! but makes perfect sense to do it before fitment as you can ensure a good job is done.
Dnk
I would try to use something that does not set rock hard, lacquer once it gets chipped will get moisture under it and peel off  Some kind of stone chip like i used on my Range Rover chassis perhaps Edited March 18, 2017 by Dnk (see edit history)

Ric
id suggest just a stonechip or perhaps a protective coating from Bilt hamber, they do loads of protective stuff. http://www.bilthamber.com/corrosion-protection-and-rust-treatments/
Dnk
3M Body Schutz is what i put on my chassis, it doesn't go hard but sets like a rubber so wont get chipped easily  http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-Automotive/Aftermarket/Products/~/3M-Body-Schutz-Rubberized-Coating-Black-08864-1-Quart-6-per-case?N=4294940588&rt=d
