To be fair to Jae, when I got in touch with him about the "missing info", he did send me a letter confirming both agreed value and mods covered, also stated that he will get in touch with the insurers to get said items added to the policy.

I've just insured mine (from today) with Sky at £500 plus £35 for agreed value and £20 admin fee.

HIC wouldn't touch it previously 'cos it's an import - but got all shitty when I told them I'm cancelling their policy. :)

Just insured mine with them as well. £670 for a BPU TT aero with agreed value. Flannelled me a bit with a higher price but when I mentioned that Ivan had been insured for £500 the price dropped a little. All I will say is don't expect to hit Ivans £500 as he is a seriously old git in the middle of the countryside :) Bloody good service and sensible with it, makes you think that they guy actually likes cars and has an interest other than vested.

I got quoted £460 fully comp with protected no claims on my twin turbo uk spec, and am only 23 with 5years no claims, how goods that?! that is with the online quote thing on admiral.com. as insurance is up for renewal in next few days will try sky insurance but think the chances the admiral quote will be beaten are slim. Hope they can beat it though :D

MPryde did you ever get insured through Admiral, as they have said that they wont touch the car because if the BOV?

Strange, Admiral originally insured mine with a BOV. However, they said they would refuse to insure me if I added a FMIC! :thumbdown

I've gone with Sky .. with all the trimmings fully comp £976. 7yrs NCB, 29yrs, Clean License & No Claims.

When I asked them about my up and coming Single Conversion they charged me an extra £276. I asked Jay - what does he base that on. And he said it's because I'm changing the spec of the engine with a more powerful turbo.

I told him the type of turbo .. T61. And asked him - if he'd taken the size of turbo into account. Apparently they don't. So, in other words I could put on T67 etc etc and still get charged the same.

I don't get it! Has anyone else insured their single car with Sky ?

I've copied this off another thread that I replied to.....

I've found it's common for insurers to make 'mistakes'. What normally happens is they downgrade your car or miss mods so they give you a cheap or reasonable quote - After you've taken out the insurance and you realise, when you ring them up to moan...they whack on extra premium!!!!. I've had it done a few times to me.

The best thing to do is when you get your quote - tell them to send it in writing with all the details - engine, date of manufacture and mods.

As you can understand I can not give out details of how our scheme is underwritten, for obvious reasons. I can say that I am given alot of flexibility by insurers when calculating premiums. I will, on occasion, use this flexibility to get a premium lower, or agree to an additional or larger modification without an extra cost. This is not something I do so I can make "mistakes" on peoples' policies, as I have always said I am trying to design a more flexible insurance policy that is taylor made for modified car drivers.

I can assure everyone that if you disclose all modifications correctly I will make sure your car is insured correctly.

If anyone wants to discuss their own specific policy, please give me a call.

Ok Jae ... I'll give you a bell. I was just confused with regard to the size of Single Turbos in relation to cost.

By the way - it's good to see that Sky Insurance has membership on the board!

Yes i agree, it makes you think they are more committed to customer care and satisfaction than most other insurers. I will definately give Jae a ring for a quote in the near future :)

Quick Update:

I tried a quote with Jae this morning, they couldnt match elephant at all, because they have had a few recent payouts on young Supra owners and so have increased the premiums in this area recently, so if your under 25 and want a Supra, its not looking good.

Damn young drivers! :D

Cmon lets face it in the days I was insuring a car below 25 I was paying £600 on a 1.3 mazda 323 that was nearly 10 years ago before they doubled up the insurance groups.

We are talking about a machine that standard puts 320+ bhp out the back wheels. I can almost guarantee your average 25 year old has never driven a rear wheel drive car before they get in their first supe. So I'm not at all surprised that its just a tadge on the expensive side to insure these cars at ages under 25. I think to be fair its only the vast quantity of cars now in use that has brought policy costs down enough that under 25's are even considered.

Insurance is in effect only gambling. The policy you are given is to all intents and purposes the odds that the insurer is giving you. I'm impressed that an insurance broker has the nouse to actually come have a looksee at his future investments general opinion by looking into their forum.

I've had cheaper quotes for insurance than SKY have done me but not 1 of them would do an agreed valuation which as any aerotop owner thats ever had an off will tell you is worth its weight in gold. When you say you have a front mount intercooler etc the guy on the end of the phone knows what you mean instead of asking you what category that fits into on his computer. I don't ever want to have to claim on my insurance, but if that event ever occurs I want to know that I will get what I think my car is worth back. It becomes especially relevent if someone else hits you. If you get involved in a non fault accident and your insurance firm is cheap and crap you'll end up fighting your corner for months. With an agreed valuation if the fault company plays hardball you claim on your own insurance and they chase it up so you don't end up in a micra for 6 months and pulling all your hair out. Its about time that specialist car markets got specialist car insurers that know what they are doing.

I agree fella, I was 24-5 with a 214SLi 5d Rover, luck smiled on me and I could afford...

...A push-bike for 2 years (no ban, just a personal choice)...

... Then a Supra and a year after an L reg clio for the shopping and winter. My first years insurance (no claims, but no no-claims (For the Supe came in at 690, second at 660. Clio 360).

I thought I had a right deal, still, three months after the theft and all they have offered is 5.5k on a theft claim for a 72kMl '94 GZ I'm starting to see what insurance firms are made of, my girlfriend works for one, and a lot of my letters etc go through her, and her directors...

...I'd have never entertained being able to insure even a knackered 2.8 Capri in my early 20's, my C reg 1.1 polo at 18yrs was 660 quid, and my Rover was still 600 at 24-5...

You get what you pay for, but then again... Only if it's in writing.

Insurance IS gambling, odds sway month by month. They also list cars by accident payout value, their risk. There's some mathematics too it she hasn't discovered yet. Guaranteed a Supra causes more carnage than an astra. I, for a start knew mine was better than me.

By my reckoning, insure any, rear wheel drive, car in the Autumn. Less accidents for the preceeding 3 months see, like a horse on bad form.... less risk of winning (from the bookies eyes)

just my observations and experiences people.

Matt

P.S. I got a feeling I should lay off the Rum about an hour ago, should have listened...

Hmmm, comparing the basics of peoples policies I've been quoted more than I should have I reckon (by Sky). Will give Jae another call soon and see what's what. :)

Update: It seems my qoute included some mods which my car hasn't got, so Scott at Sky (Jae was on lunch break) has just dropped it to £741 which I will no doubt be taking out today/tomorrow once I've finished ringing around a couple of others - just for peace of mind. :)

I went with Sky in the end, the elephant policy worked out at a similar price tbh when the policies were matched, and ide rather have the knowledge of good service and pay a little extra.

I am dreading changing the policy over to the Supra tho!!
