What's all this about, any truth in this or just trader bollox?
-
I don't know for sure but I'm sure somone will tell you, but in that mode each particular selection ie Drive, Neutral etc acts as a gear where by you can drive it as a manual. Albeit with three gears. Although I stand to be corrected....

honest opinion? I don't like em I'm afraid. Whenever I see em on a Supe I can't help but think they're defacing one of the best looking motors on the planet! Out of interest, are decals easy to remove? does it damage the paint in any way? Another chap on here has a crakin candy apple red Supe which looks the muts nuts, even with the decals on. But again, better without. Personal preference at the end of the day! Decals aside mate, you've a superb looking Supe and in the best colour too....

You'll be lucky to get a decent UK manual full stop let alone one the right side of 10k. Give the club insurer Sky a ring as it makes no difference to them if it's import or not. Then go for a J Spec, more choice and generally lower mileage and better condition. Or, if you have months to spare start looking for the holy grail - a UK manual (preferbaly in black). A very very lucky member on here has just that!

Don't worry about that mate, it's a Supra and that's all that matters!

Hi and welcome to the board mate. I can understand any reservations somebody might have on the age of the Supe. Some of my mates think spending 10k on a car 12 years old is ridiculous, and tbh on the surface of it spending that kind of money on a car that old is. I mean, how many other cars can still command that kind of money after all that time? Most 12 year old top of the range Mercs/BMW's which cost the same as the Supe new can be picked up for a round of drinks now. But not all cars are the Supe and I found the sooner you forget about the age the better. Afterall, it's a Toyota and if it's been looked after it will last forever and a day! You'll soon discover like I did it's the actual model of the Supe that dictates the price of the car, not it's age. There's a mint K reg TT 6Spd on a fellow members site: whifbitz That's fetching £9.5k and in that colour with the bpu's as well it's well worth it. You could get a similar car to that a couple years newer for 1-2k less if it was an auto. You could spend quite a few grand less on a facelift model N/A on say a '97 plate. Just decide on what it is you want and set about finding the best one of that spec you can find. As long as you buy sensibly you can rest assured you want be dropping thousands of £££'s when you come to sell.

Sorry to hijack the thread but are you lads on about Whitley Bay in Newcastle? A sparky on our site has been working away up there in the week and reckons it's class! The birds are worse than the men up there for getting wasted! He hammers it all week in Whitley Bay then comes back down here to recover at the weekend! I think a visit is in order! PS - Cool car Rob! I too quite like them black wheels on a silver Supe. Not normally a fan of them wheels either, I wonder why the japs love em so much?

Nice looking Supe mate, but then again all Supes are good looking! One of the best colours too imo. Is it a TT or N/A?

Not Supra related but recetly the most expensive plate ever sold at auction was MR51 NGH. It reads Mr Singh, the very shrewd DVLA kept this plate themselves and sold it. I think it went for about £250k. The previous most expensive plate to that was K1 NGS. That also went for nearly a quarter of a mil I think. I think a private reg is a must for a supe, the car still looks modern now and to the uninitiated only the old reg would give the age away. I don't have a PP but when I do I'm having my Dad's reg which is on retention. He's got SA 59, means nothing to me but covers the age of the car.

Go on, tell us how much you paid in the end! Congrats on the car though mate, nothing better than the new car feeling. You'll keep looking at it through the window every two minutes and suddenly you wont mind giving people lifts, any excuse for a drive
-
Did cornelius get this car in the end? And Steve, did you really sell for £5500? Somebody was really lucky! Just out of interest why didn't you advertise on here or sell it for more in the Trader?
-
Glad to hear that mate. Just wondered though, what happened to your car and any pics of the damage?
-
This is true but for a whole 12 months you'll have a much faster and better sounding car. Kinda worth it to most owners. Or instead of putting it back on find a garage that don't mind 'overlooking' the exhaust emmisions for a little extra cash!

It has never bothered me buying cars with high mileage and personally it wouldn't bother me having a UK Supe with that kind of mileage. If the turbos were Ok and it had been maintained as claimed then the car should still have a lot of life left in it. Saying all that though I wouldn't buy it simply because you would struggle big time when trying to sell it. As mentioned above though it's only worth £4k with that mileage. 100k is a big psychological barrier for some, but 200k?

Francis, I've been looking for Supes for a couple months and I've only seen one UK TT6 so far. Even though it was on the register it still fetched £10k. Did have some nice bits though. In regards to colour I'd say black is the most sought after colour closely followed by silver. Some people on here deslike red but I don't mind it so much if it's 'gleaming' red. I'm not a fan of the Storm Blue but surprisingly white looks good on a Supe. Not many cars can claim to look good in white! No doubt you'll set off wanting a UK car but price and availability will push you to a JDM model. I know it did with me and probably nearly all newbies in the past. Definitly give Sky Insurance a ring and tell them you're a member on this board. Their number is in the insurance section. It makes no difference whthere the car is UK or JDM to them and they're the cheapest I've had so far.

The prices of the Supra are an irritating thing to a newbie like myself. I've always wanted one but knew little about them. I'm looking in the trader week in week out and slowly but surely they're dropping into my price range. You see them for £5k and realise you can now afford one. But when you look into them more you realise that £5k one was probably a dog and an auto N/A in the wrong colour. You then decide you want a 6spd TT in black and in one foul swoop that £5k car you could afford is now a £10k car you can't! The story of every newbies life I'm sure!
-
£850 for a TT is really good. I'm 25, got 3 yrs NCB with 4 points and I'm having to value a TT at £5k to get a TPFT quote in at £1150. Did you say you were 23? I take it your £850 quote is fully comp? It sounds Ok to me but everybodys circumstances are different. As for the car above, judging by the high prices on dealers website and Ad wording I don't think that aero is a TT. If I'm correct then it's very expensive. Also, if you only want a sub 7 sec car then the N/A will be fine. I've had a look for stats and can't find any but I'm positive 0-60 is 6.7 seconds. More than enough.
-
I think converting an auto is very very pricey and some people on here say it can't be done. I don't know to be honest so can't comment on that. Fo some reason the N/A with a lot of insurers is dearer than the JDM TT, god knows why. With Sky though it was a couple hundred cheaper for me but the same as a TT for my mate. If speed isn't a big issue for you then an N/A Aero is a damn sight cheaper (6k+) - plus you have more choice. The TT aero is relativively rare and therefore expensive, you're looking at £10k tbh. As for performance figures check out :link The N/A is by no means slow, you'd be surprised how quick it is for a big car! Test drive a few and see if it's enough for you.
-
It'll only show the last owner, not any previous to that. Sorry if you already know this...
-
Cool plates, doubt too many people will own a Soop that new though.
-
Man, as a newbie to this board I thought the only wind up arguments would be manual/auto. Not JDM/UK..... Just for the record, I would love any Supra and don't care which one it is. At the moment I'm driving my avatar and that wont change until I sell my house! With the market the way it is that could be months too!
-
Yeah I know, I just thought from the tone of his post MJ thought he was proved correct. I thouhgt he had missed the asterix/footnote
-
MJ, not having a pop but are you trying to say that this link proves that the Jspec is 280bhp?
