Hey 250, how do you get your Supe sooooo RED? Is that the original Toyota red? It can't be surely? If so I could be up for a red one! It looks well nice!
-
I will mate, I'll more than likely be buying one tbh. I quite like driving auto's so never really had a problem with that, always love the kick down! It was just the sound of them, I test drove a 300ZX before and that was the same. I've only driven two Supes and bothe were manual N/A's. Everybody keeps saying the Supra box is different but I just thought they were being biased! I suppose there's only one way to know for sure, to test drive one - I'll be doing that today I reckon! Sorry Stu but newbie question time, what's WOT?
-
So you don't get a pssst when the auto box changes gear? Thats what I was hoping for! So I take it nobody else dislikes the sound of an auto box? My FTO didn't make a noise changing gear but you know what i mean, that monotonous drone you get from any auto box I'd try and do an impression but kind of hard with text,
-
He he, I bet that got the attention of the auto owners. Quick question really, I'm looking to buy a TT in the next couple of months and like every other newbie would prefer a 6spd but can't afford one. Now I don't mind driving an auto which seems to be the issue for everybody else. It's the sound they make when they change gear which I don't like! You know what I mean, the sound of the engine jumping like a scrathed record! I hated it in an FTO I once had. Well what I'd like to know is: does a dump valve disguise that distinct auto gear change?
-
Excuse my ignorance mate, but do you actually get a Summer in Sweden?
-
Aha! you are correct! Am I right in thinking you can't get Manual aerotops? I did think this but a couple ads on AT made me think otherwise.
-
I've seen a few, heres one: Manual Aerotop £6745 It is a K reg but it's cheap, looks like a reputable garage too (not that that counts for a lot). EDIT:Sorry, no mention of manual box n dealers site, on autotrader it does though:link I may very well be in touch soon Jurgen, the sale of my house is going through and I'll be ready to purchase very soon. At least you have answered my question in part, you can get a decent TT for £8k or less! music to my ears.
-
D3xt3r That's what worries me, buying somet like that. But at least t was relatively cheap to fix and could happen just as easy on the N/A, it's what's in the TT engine bay that worries me!
-
I have done a search on Keighley so know their reputation. It's just when you see soooo many TT supes under the 8k you know you can have one. There's 7 TT's within 60 miles from me in this weeks Trader under 8k (even a manual). Anything above 8k is kinda out of budget. Surely all of these motors aren't dogs? That's why I was wondering if anyone had paid that kind of money and did Ok.
-
I had a really bad/expensive experience with a GT4 I bought in the past where by I took a chance on buying it with a boost problem (thinking I knew the cause) only to find NOBODY on the planet knew the cause including Mr T. It cost me over a grand trying to fix it and after I gave up lost even more when I sold it! This in turn has scared me off complicated Jap turbos. I'm swaying towards a manual Aerotop N/A. Mainly to have a little more re-assurance there's less to go wrong. I only wanted to sepnd 7k - 8k on a TT (not bothered if Auto) and even though there's loads about I'd be worried I was buying a dog - I'm not what you'd call a competent mechanic Anyone on here bought a cheap TT? Did you get what you paid for? Or even worse, anyone pay good money and still get done? What I'd like to hear is somebody bought a black 6 speed TT from Keighley Trade Centre for £6000 and it's been superb ever since!
-
He's a poof you know, Scott Mills! Like you say, the BMW suits him better than the Supe!
-
Elephant wont insure him, unacceptable conviction history! Bobbeh, when you say it's too much compared to what you're paying, do you mean because you have a DD too? If so who are you with? My mate is 24 with 3 years NCB btw.
-
We'll give Elephant a try then, cheers! £2600 is a lot I know but he's adament he wants a quick car and as he still lives at home with no serious outgoings, he may as well spend his money on something he really wants. Might as well buy it now while he can afford it rather than wish he had bought it 5yrs from now when he has 3 kids and a mortgage. TBH, the lure of the Supe is too great.

A mate of mine is about to get his license back after a 9 month ban for drink driving. Not as bad as it first sounds, he was caught driving one of them mini moto's on a lads weekend in Newquay after a few too many. He got done for no insurance, MOT and no helmet too. They basically threw the book at him for driving an R1 replica no taller than your knee cap He had his 1 year ban reduced to 9 months for doing a course and sold his Scooby to boot! Now he's getting his license back he wants a proper car, a TT. He wants a manual but only has £8k ish, it's a big ask so I'm trying to get him to consider an auto. Anyway, Sky have quoted him £2600 TPFT with the DR10 and IN10 for any Supra model. He's willing to pay it, just about, but if anyone knows of somebody else who specialise in DD drivers with a jap import he should be trying I would appreciate it. Afterall, the less he pays on insurance the more chance he has of affording a 6 speed. Cheers

Cheers mate, I've only got one more post left then! Can any of the moderators let me know the cost of the up keep of the site and how much the use of images on the site increases this? No probs if you don't want to disclose this, it's just I use another forum identical to this but you can't post images. The reason being that the amount of bandwidth being used up by pics seriously slows the site down and it would cost too much for the extra bandwidth. I wouldn't mind but although it's free forum, it belongs to the biggest selling evening newspaper in the country! Cost really shouldn't be an issue!
-
Is there some sort of membership to pay for this sites up keep? If so, how come you aren't restricted to a Newbie section like on Celica Club if you're not a member? Also, who pays for the bandwidth and most importantly how much is the sites cost per annum? - if you don't mind me asking. Anyone?
-
Hey guys, sorry for bringing up such an old thread! I'm new here and when I stumbled across the thread I couldn't help wondering what the final outcome was! Glad to hear your car was returned in good condition though!

what I Have Noticed Since Driving My Supra Is That People Tend To.....
Conrad replied to supra-alex's topic in Supra Chat
All these posts just confirm what I have always said, mkiv Supras are the best looking car on the road. Can't wait to own one!! I work for my Dad and he's always trying to get me to sell my Celica, he says it's too old ('94). He's even offered to subsidise me so that I can buy a 'nice' car - like a couple year old BMW or Merc ( ). Unfortunately for me he just can't see past the age of the car. He really can't understand why somebody would pay £10000 for an M reg car. I really do think he is of a minority though, plus I honestly don't think the mkiv looks as old is it! -
Talk about resurrecting a really old thread!!! But I stumbled across this story whilst using the search facility. Anyone know if Andrew got his car back in a decent condition and how much the insurerers bill came to? Just wondering like.....
-
This is bang on right IMO. At the risk of sounding cheesy the mkiv supra has been my dream car since the first time I saw it (a chap I delivered to on my paper round had one way back in '93 when they first came out) It has always been the car I wanted most and only now is it affordable to me. The model is now 12 years old that coupled with the huge influx from Japan has driven costs down. I can't comment on the quality of these motors but you can get N/A Supra's for as little as £4.5k now and TT's for £6k. People my age (25yrs) who dreamt of Supes when they were in their teens can now afford their dream car. I'm going to view my first one in about half an hour, let's hope it's a good en! I can't wait to test drive it!
-
Really? I don't know whether insurance not being compulsory is a good thing or a bad thing. Good if you're young and want proper motor but not so good if someone without insurance smacks into your expensive motor!!
-
Just out of interest mate, how much does insurance cost in the States? As well as not being able to drive until we're 17 in the UK, we can literally only afford to insure a w@nk car like a Ford Fiesta 1.1 popular plus. You may not be familiar with something like this but it boasts about 45bhp and has a 0-60 time of about a week. Even one of these bad boys would cost a lad about £1000 to insure (that's about $1800 for a year) Any info would be appreciated!
-
Please excuse the newbie question, but what is a model report and who does them? I'm getting the impression it's something to do with safety/crash tests and emmisions??? If so is it a euro thing or just us Brits that have this? BTW, quality Supe! Almost worth emigrating for!
-
Isn't the small plate just as incriminating as no plate at all? It's the same for bikes I know that much. Something about size regulations etc??? Again, I don't know for sure but if it is just as bad then having no plate at all looks better than a small one! We could do with a copper on this board, someone 'on the inside' so to speak.
