  1. Here's one way it's relevant....dynamometers measure torque. BHP is calculated from the torque figure. BHP = Torque (lb/ft) x RPM / 5252
  2. Just out of interest.... http://www.nsra.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=827&whichpage=51 Scroll down to the post by stus32
  3. http://www.hamercarlift.com/ if you don't have room for the ramps (not cheap though)
  4. I think that the difference between the Soarer and Mk3 'boxes is the position of the gearlever. First point is that you would be very lucky to find either a Soarer or JZA70 R154 gearbox in the UK. Manual Soarers and 2.5TT Mk3 Supras are very rare over here. Secondly, the 3.0 turbo Mk3 uses the R154, but with a different bellhousing (Bondango may be able to help you out with that), and there are lots of them about because Mk3s rust and blow head gaskets. Thirdly, the W58 from a Mk4 N/A would be easier, but it's supposedly much weaker than the R154, and there must be some significance in the fact that Toyota didn't use the W58 behind the turbo engines. However, I assume that there are NA-T Supras running with the W58. so......
  5. When I heard 159 on a deserted motorway I didn't see what the fuss was about (to an extent). Except that people have been jailed because the simple fact of travelling at that speed was deemed to be such a heinous crime, regardless of the circumstances. However, for 80+ in a 30, for no good reason, he does deserve to have the book thrown at him.
  6. I never met a bull terrier I didn't like, but ........ American Staffordshire Teriier = American version of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier registered with the American Kennel Club Pit Bull Terrier = American version of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier NOT registered with the American Kennel Club and that's what would put me off owning an Amstaff -- the pain of a perfectly friendly dog being killed because some policeman or RSPCA inspector decided that it was a "pit bull type" under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
  7. I was at my local garage the other day (arranging to have new front discs / pads fitted to the GS, as it happens) and I spotted a wafer thin disc in the scrap pile... and I mean "wafer thin", like 1-2mm. It turned out to be the rear disc off a big Renault Trafic van. It had been driven for who knows how long with no pad material left. A few more miles and there would have been no pad backing left either. It was only spotted because the driver was dropping off his mate, and one of the mechanics heard the noise of metal on metal. How could anyione drive around with that noise and not think something might be amiss?
  8. If the bellhousing fits a 2JZ it will fit a 1JZ. A member of the Australian Soarer and Supra forums has a normally aspirated JZA80 fitted with a 1JZ-GTE / auto. http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/126/38882.html http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/285/42766.html http://www.supraforums.com.au EDIT: Just checked -- you've already found Ben. He has posted in your thread on supraforums.com.au These seem to be his project threads http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=10949 http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?p=212400#post212400
  9. Some random thoughts.... Some Aussies have used the 2JZ-GTE in the Soarer with the 1JZ loom plugged on to the 2JZ sensors, so I assume that you could use the 2JZ loom attached to the 1JZ sensors...but, would you need a Supra TT ECU and engine loom? The 1JZ redlines at 7000. If you used the autobox would the 2JZ ECU change up early? The Soarer turbos run in parallel, so there's no ECU control to worry about. If you tried to use the Soarer ECU, how much hassle would it be to wire it into the Supra (the Soarer has a digital dash). Would the 1JZ ECU run the Supra autobox? Would the Supra ECU run the Soarer autobox?
  10. Presumably because it's still got the N/A differential. Higher ratio diff would fix that. On the other hand, you could just enjoy the acceleration
  11. ...... maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow. I'm hard to get, Steve. All you have to do is ask me. (Lauren Bacall in To Have and Have Not)

    Supra wheels

Check the clearance on the inside edge of the tyre. The Supra is 50 offset, and most other cars are 35. That would move the Supra wheel 15 mm inwards compared with the standard RX7 wheels. Also, don't forget that you may need spigot rings to match the Toyota wheel to the Mazda hub.
  13. The diameter of the standard size 16 inch tyres should be the same as the diameter of the standard size 17 inch tyres, so it won't make any difference to the ride height.
  14. For a while, I commuted 85 miles each way in my Soarer TT (home is about 7 miles from M4 J18, work is Thames Valley Park off J10, so it's mostly motorway/dual carriageway). I reckon it averaged about 21/22 to the gallon of BP Ultimate. I can't imagine the Aristo TT would be much different, given that the GS300 I'm using at the moment is doing 26/27.

    "Alleged Plot"

I think you are forgetting the difference that computers make. Forty years ago, or even five or ten years ago, there was no way to make use of the information supplied by mass passive surveillance. Now, with increased computer power, universal use of credit/debit cards and mobile phones, CCTV cameras everywhere, traffic cameras, face recognition software, number plate recognition cameras, and the proposals for all vehicles to be "chipped" and for everyone to carry an identity card with a transponder, the mechanisms are in place for a "big brother" system which Hitler or Stalin would have given somebody else's right arm for.

  17. Don't... unless the propshaft is disconnected or the driven wheels are off the ground.
  18. Google Balfour declaration British mandate in Palestine and if you want to learn that some things never change, that one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter, and that some people really do believe that the end justifies ANY means.... Stern gang / Lehi Irgun Haganah (Hagganah? Haggenah?) Grand Mufti of Jerusalem St David's Hotel Menachem Begin Yitzhak Shamir Just be aware that a lot of stuff on the net is, shall we say, a little biased (if not virulently racist).
  19. My old man was with the Paras in Palestine when the car bomb was invented, so I've always heard a slightly different view of the Middle East conflict.... Fact is that neither side is right, and they both are.
  20. Mk3, but it's still an A34* http://www.forum.mkiiisupra.net/showthread.php?t=6396 http://www.mark.lineisp.co.uk/autobox.htm
  21. No!!! Not the RSPCA, they'd probably identify the Staff as a pit bull and kill it.
  22. The Ministry of Agriculture (or whatever it's called this week) has been gassing badgers for years.
