  1. Flare. Japanese equivalent of the warning triangle.

    Fog lights

Probably unlikely to get you a ticket (usual disclaimers apply ). Worst case, you bolt the dangly fog light back on if the MOT tester objects.

    Fog lights

This may be useful (courtesy of Peter Betts of Thor Racing / TRL) http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.betts/supra/TechTips/fog_lamp.htm
  4. "a guy from Sweden called Daniel Malmedahl ([email protected] if you want to thank him) recorded the noise to mock his mates who had mopeds" That's a relief I keep reading that it's supposed to be an F1 car, but to me it sounds like an old racing 2-stroke coming "on the pipe".
  5. Those were just some of the assertions I've seen on various forums. I'm sure there must be more, and I'm sure that every "enthusiast's" car has a similar collection of myths and half-truths. As long as it goes, and I know that if I want to I can create some extra horsepower for "bench racing", that'll do me
  6. I don't think there's any doubt about the Yamaha connection, but I'd love to find out how many of the 1JZ myths are true 1) Is the head better than a 2JZ? 2) Do they have forged pistons? 3) Is the crank made from exceptionally high-grade steel? 4) Because of the above, will the stock 1JZ take more power than a stock Skyline RB25DET? and here's another question.... would it be possible to persuade one of the budget single kits to fit the N/A 2JZ-GE in a 3-litre Soarer?
  7. and ECT = Electronically Controlled Transmission
  8. It's obviously much easier to get stuff for the 2Jz, but ..... You can get decats in the UK (but in the end it's just a pipe, so any exhaust fabricator should be able to make one). Dump pipes from Oz. You can make a cold air intake (otherwise known as a BFI -- Big F**** Intake) or buy one. gamer (who posts here and on TIF) and Bedlam (on LSOC) have single conversions. There are quite a few cars running decent power with the twin turbo set up, either the original ceramics, hybrids, or aftermarket kits Useful links LSOC http://www.lexusclub.co.uk/ TIF http://www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk/ ALSC http://www.alsc.aus.as Planet Soarer (BFI) http://planetsoarer.com/ mkiiisupra.net http://www.mkiiisupra.net/ (the 1JZ was also used in the MkIII)
  9. I did say allegedly .... Yamaha have a relationship with Toyota which extends from the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT (Bond is rescued by a Japanese girl driving a built-for-the-film convertible version in "You Only Live Twice") to the current F1 cars. Yamaha were originally a maker of wind instruments (the Yamaha badge is crossed tuning forks) and presumably acquired an excellent knowledge of gas flow. Toyota_2000GT
  10. The 1JZ head is allegedly better, and is sometimes used on a 2JZ bottom end to create a "1.5JZ".
  11. These may be old news.... but on the subject of big boys' toys R/C plane http://www.compfused.com/directlink/609/ R/C helicopter http://www.compfused.com/directlink/557/
  12. I love the way the thread was about "a bit of luxo-ness for the commute" when it started, then quickly changed to a discussion about whether a Celica, SX, or MR2 was a better choice Keep it in the family -- Aristo TT ( or a Soarer ) .

  16. I'm still trying to decide whether I want to see the film. I've had the pictures from the radio series in my head for more than 25 years, and I don't know if I want to confuse things
  17. I love Staffs. Our last dog was a Staff called George, he died about 11 years ago, just after I had to change jobs, and if I didn't have to leave home so early to get to work (morning walkies would have to start at about 04:30), we'd have one now.

Thanks, I only checked the short one!

You're a very naughty boy! I hope you realize that you've committed a crime which is worse than nearly killing someone by stabbing him 5 times? http://www.millennium-debate.org/tel9mar024.htm Daily Telegraph 9 March 2002 Biker who filmed himself at 165mph sent to prison for 12 months http://www.highbeam.com/library/doc0.asp?docid=1G1:105471852&refid=ink_tptd_np&skeyword=&teaser 16 July 2003 A MOTORCYCLIST caught riding at 157mph, the highest speed recorded by police on a British road, was jailed for 28 days yesterday. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/voiceofthemirror/tm_objectid=15417581%26method=full%26siteid=94762-name_page.html 19 April 2005 WHEN Mark Hobson brutally slaughtered four people, it was not the first time he had gone berserk. Only three years earlier he stabbed a love rival five times in cold blood. He attacked William Brace after the girl they had both been involved with dumped him. Mr Brace almost died. Yet Hobson received only 100 hours' community service for his brutal crime

    172mph!

That's definitely been reported as a problem with some MPH converted Soarers. Only with some converters though, the better ones (or the better fitted ones maybe?) don't do it.
  21. Daily driver is a Merc C230 Kompressor manual (195K), Soarer TT auto (well, it's related to the Supra), BMW K100RS, Kawasaki GPZ1000RX, and a shed-full of British bike "projects" (yeah, right)
