  1. If they were serious about cutting emissions from road transport, they would start by cutting the distance people have to travel to work and the distance goods have to be transported. Trouble is, that would mean forcing businesses (and government) to go back to small, local factories and offices, and also to spread them out so that everything isn't jammed into the south east. Far too difficult.... much easier to disguise tax increases as "green", continue to travel in your chauffered car, and blame everyone else.
  2. but that's what they do..... Findapart isn't a breaker, they just (hopefully ) save you a lot of phoning around.
  3. There's a trick to avoiding the smell from spilt milk -- baking soda? I'm sure Google will help
  4. http://www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk (mostly Soarer) http://www.lexusclub.co.uk (Soarer) http://www.lexusaustralia.org/ (Australian Soarer) http://www.toymods.net (Australian Toyota) http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/
  5. As said above, if it's an import BIMTA should be able to tell you the mileage when it was auctioned in Japan. Isn't that supposed to be pretty reliable? http://www.bimta.org/MileageChecks.asp
  6. Googled "super gas turbo" and found a couple of references. Unfortunately they were other people asking what the funny box was Like this http://preludeuk.forumup.com/about749-.html&highlight=
  7. Maybe, but the Celts have to stick together
  8. Don't worry, Torchwood is repeated on BBC2 tonight at 9 pm..... Episode 1 Everything Changes/Day One: A brutal murder leads WPC Gwen Cooper to Torchwood; Episode 2 Torchwood must stop a sex addicted alien. Some strong language and scenes of a sexual nature, but no choirs or sheep.
  9. For prefix and new type plates always check the DVLA site first. Dealers advertise registration marks which are still available from the DVLA. I assume that other plates are with multiple dealers because the owner has contacted several dealers, who are acting as agents and don't actually own the reg.
  10. You might not believe that if you read the Mercedes forums! and rust........
  11. Don't like 'em myself, but if you must use spacers... make sure that they are "hubcentric" (to locate the centre of the wheel correctly) and TUV-approved.
  12. Apparently the latest mod for the A-series is the 16-valve head off a BMW K-series (bike), and if you want ITBs, get them off a bike as well.
  13. and according to the DfT's own figures (in Autocar last week), speed in excess of the limit is a contributory factor in only 5% of accidents (or whatever the official term is these days).
  14. What is Elias on? It seems like he's done nothing up till now, but some of those overtakes were unbelievable.
  15. Yes, same PCD and centre bore, but....... Mk3s are 38 offset (some may be 35?), Mk4s are 50 offset, so the wheels will sit 12mm (or 15mm) further in.
  16. The trouble is that when they introduce restrictions on modifying cars there will be no distinction between "chav boy racers" and "car enthusiasts". Whenever I see a program like that I can't believe that people are stupid enough to let themselves be filmed reinforcing the stereotype.
  17. Does he know about the TT Aristo?
  18. You can't register to enter number plate details until you've qualified by spending a certain amount of time in the outside lane of the motorway at 65 mph, muttering "The limit's 70, so I have a perfect right to be here".
  19. I believe that Toyota did bring in a few, as sort of official grey imports. Mine just has the Griffin badge on the front, so I'm staying out of the Toyota/Lexus debate As a final detail, only the TT and the 3-litre were ever available (from the factory) as 5-speed manuals.
  20. That anonymity is the attraction for some of us... I just couldn't see myself driving a MkIV, I'd look too much like an old git having a mid-life crisis I don't think I'd back (standard to standard) the Soarer against the Supra, but it would be interesting to see the result if they were run side by side. It was, indeed, written by "Mycroft".
  21. The trouble with the 1UZ is that there are virtually no off-the-shelf tuning parts available. The small block Chevy has been around so long, in so many forms, and has been so popular with tuners, that it's easy to find the parts and they cost peanuts.
  22. R154 from a Mk3 Supra turbo is stronger than the W58 from a Mk4, and Mk3s rust..... http://website.lineone.net/~classicconversions/web/conv.htm http://www.conversioncomp.co.nz/products.php?which=11&return=7 http://www.dellowauto.com.au/main.html http://www.rodshop.com.au/bellhousings.htm
  23. Yes. "Captive" just means that the nut cannot turn. You don't need to put a spanner on the nut while you screw in the bolt.
