This is why I have autoguard on my phone. It acts as a black box and records video. If something like that happened to me the video will be straight on a disk to the police along with a complaint about the damage. -

I've been using a Windows 7 tablet at work called a Zoostorm. Quite like it though the fliping between landscape and portrate is a bit slow. Dual core atom processor so it's got more than enough cpu for most stuff.

Were the egg shells still by the car and how intact were they? I'd go round all the neighbours and innosently ask if they had seen anything and maybe mention Police, evidence, something about fingerprints off the egg shells

This reminds me of a news story where some parked actually on a random persons drive and cleared off on holiday for ages blocking them in. The guy who owned the property wasn't aloud to touch the car dispite it being on his land. The police said if it got damaged in any way then he'd be arrested for criminal damage. I suspect that is also why the police can't do anything when it's on a public road, if it got damaged they would then become liable? Is it any wonder society is going to hell. -

Paste is better for SMT components and if it's going through an oven to melt the paste. If you are doing it by hand with an iron then i would definately use normal solder.
