Gordon Brown - Cometh the hour cometh the man...discuss
extendor replied to Dragonball's topic in Off Topic
The lady who we eventually found and now does that job is brilliant. I like to think we did open a few extra doors for her. She has been trained on new software, has developed a lovely telephone manner and I would have no hesitation in giving her a great reference. I notice that she has benefitted in some very subtle ways as well. I think everyone around her would say she has a lot more confidense. Shame the other person missed out on these 'benefits'. -

My situation is a small business just got out of the spare bedroom and into office space twelve months ago. I had to take on staff as we were growing. Taking on staff has actually cost more time effort and trouble that I could ever imagine. May I also add this little snippet of info. I placed a job add with Job centre for a permanent part time clerical role, above miniumum pay, training to be given etc etc hours to suit. Ideal you would have thought for a person with care responsibilities or getting back into work. The Job Centre were pretty good and sent a load of CV's. I sifted, made appointments with three, interviewed them and offered the position to one. She went away then emailed me to say she would not take the offer because she would be worse off after her benefits were reduced by the amount I would be paying. In other words she did not want the work and would rather stay at home. She only attended the interview because she had to show she was still actively seeking work. I rang the job centre and they said they could do nothing about it. Now we are doing well and our plans put in place twelve months ago are paying dividends. I need to think about taking on a permanent project administrator but this time we will get someone who is already in work or who has just lost a job. Long term unemployed are not on our list! -
What about consider buy back and see what someone on here will offer you for the complete car to break up themselves. You may be lucky and do a deal that sees you a bit better off. Word of warning - get a proper agreement first so you dont get lumbered with the car!

Try being an employer then and see how few rights your employees have. I would swap any day from being the boss to a plain old employee. -

The 3 main political parties are so close to centre nowadays, that none of them are going to have radically different policies to any other. So that means are stuck with high crime, poor services, greed, etc because that is what we all want? If you only give someone a limited choice of 'no choice' then they should have every right to say they want something different and a proper choice. I dont have an answer but I believe there are a significant number of people in this country who feel they they do not have a voice speaking for them. -

Why do people blame the government for everything? Agree strongly. Unless you vote you cant blame anyone. There are a lot of people who mouth off yet can't spare five mins to make their voice heard through the ballot box. You have to consider that a lot of the blame rests with people that can't be arsed to vote. If you agree with someone then vote for them otherwise you can spoil a ballot or register NONE. It is still a vote. If enough people did that then any government would be untennable and they would have to sort it out properly. Once people feel involved they feel empowered and start to get things sorted. Who has the balls to vote. If not dont moan. -

i really dont know how this country let itself get so bad. What about draconian laws regarding right to congregate and protest, general feeling of apathy, erosion of national identity and cohesiveness so no collective purpose. etc etc etc If it was a recipe for 'National Crisis' you could also add a few sprinklings of police state and a legal and benefits and immigration system that is absurd. Season with MP's hand in the honey pot and the I'am alright Jack attitude of the wealthy and a few other magic ingredients only available in yUK like binge drinking, ghetto council estates and political correctness then the recipe for disaster is complete. Simmer with resentment and apathy and feel absolutely taxed to the hilt. Then dont turn out to vote. Voila!!! -

lots of builders like me are just waiting Sorry mate - I know you have to earn a living etc but I would have been more impressed if you had told us about what lessons you had learned and how your skills could have been put to use building affordable housing and discouraging greed rather than waiting for the whole merrygoround to start again. -

What makes me laugh is that I couldn't hear anyone crying about house prices going up and people making a killing off that... Sorry, what planet have you been on. Here in Devon (and we are not alone in this) there is NO HOPE of a local person on an average income ever affording to buy a house. In my opinion the whole greedy lot who have forced all the hope out of thousands of hard working people by banging up house prices and selling credit to sustain the unsustainable shoud stew in their own juice. There have been thousands of people shouting about this for years but whilst everyone was looking to their selfish selves it never made the mainstream news. Its time for common sense and common decency. -
Saying goodbye to the Supra today, and life changing weekend!

Bloody hell. I was really rooting for you and was hoping to read some good news. The best thing to come out of that is that you are OK. Take care and try to think to the future. Like you say you need a holiday and some time to catch your breath. -
Ref the envelopes - With my luck I can guarantee I always get the one with the least amount in. Is luck a factor.

Films = The Running Man, Treadmill (there really is!), Reach for the Sky and no doubt a few more on google if I could be bothered.

Source - Mythbusters site - "In order for the conveyor belt to prevent the plane from accelerating, it must apply Drag equal to or greater than the Thrust generated by the plane's engines. Since the only point of contact between the conveyor and the plane is the plane's wheels, this force must be applied through the wheels. However, since the wheels of the plane are specifically designed to minimize the application of force from the ground to the plane, the conveyor is unable to apply enough Drag to prevent the plane from accelerating, and so the plane accelerates forward, gains airspeed, and takes off."

I can honestly say i was and am amazed on how well these last...come on someone back me up No probs. I remember when you first showed them me early in the year when we went to Smeathorpe (when I blew the turbo on the red one, lol) and know all about your season. These tyres have done a lot of work and are surprisingly grippy and durable with loads of life left in them. Hows that?

I believe this was put into law in New Zealand. Has anyone had any experience of what has happened there since then.

Well worth getting her and the pup to see a vet just for a quickie health check anyway.

IIRC they covered him with paint as well. Very upsetting at the time and emotions ran very high.

Fine now thankyou. I do like the Chinese burn thing as well. Reminds me of that episode of "Father Ted" when they enlist the services of the convent to help them with their Lent promises.

Michael - I note that you hope someone else does the deed so can deduce you are not available to do it yourself. Would you do it if you had the opportunity.

What sort of society lets kids get to this stage. We had it is 1993 - Think James Bulger, God rest his soul. We all need to take a long hard look at our society and what messages we give kids about violence, cruelty, respect for each other and ones self. Michael - he is seven. IS THIS REALLY APPROPRIATE "I'm hoping a lynch mob finds him, ETC."

I was going to post something a bit tongue in cheek but there are some big issues here so I have edited it. Thanks

That did not make for nice reading and I was bracing myself for might and did happen. If I was the boss I would have done the same. A bit of emotion thrown in with caution ref the legal implications I would have offered you the job but with a view to letting it all cool down and seeing how it pans out - but I dont think you are out of the woods yet. Whilst you have the job in hand start looking for another one. If this guy still has business issues you will find yourself out of the door pretty much at Xmas and that would be crap. We all know it is easier to get a job when you are in a job so start looking and aim higher. I hope it all works out for you.
