Then the best way I could think of to get a measurement of overhang was to measure from the centre of the centre cap (on one of the front wheels) to the furthest forward point at the base of the bumper. Large overhangs on bumpers (like mine) seem to also cause grounding issues so I figured this would also be a helpful measurement. Basically how far the bumper sticks out from the car, hope that helps

I have recently bought a new house and have very slight ground clearance issues with my drive I have done some searching but haven’t found anything useful so I thought I would start a thread to show the various heights from the ground and overhangs of different front bumpers. I figured these would have to measured on stock suspension to get a good guide of clearances. For me I figured a bumper with an extra 15-20mm clearance over my current front would solve my problem but I don’t want to spend money on a bumper and hope it is slightly higher, hence the thread. Hopefully with enough info this will be very useful to allot of members. I figured the first thing to mention should be suspension (standard black shocks and springs or the later yellow bilstein’s and springs) From doing some searching it looks like the later bilstein set-up was roughly 10mm lower than the older KYB set-up (please correct if this is wrong) so stating stock suspension will allow a good comparison to be made. Then the type of front bumper (Standard, Top Secret type 2, Ridox ect) and whether or not it is an original or a replica. Also if it is a replica then post where it was from if possible. Then simply measure the distance from the ground (parking on a flat bit of tarmac) to the bottom of the front bumper to get ground clearance. Anyway, I hope this works and turns out to be useful, it will take all the guess work out of buying an aftermarket front bumper. I'll put mine up first :- Suspension - Standard (Black) springs and shocks. Front Bumper - Top Secret Type 2 (replica from Vine Place) Dist from ground - 110mm Overhang - 95mm

Checked yesterday and the cam cover is fine have done about 250miles since nipping it up so I would imagine that would have been long enough for any expansion to crack anything if too tight. Thanks for the advice though guy just hope the leak has stopped as it looks clean now. If it hasnt I will drop you a PM SUPRA61 Thanks again.

That is exactly the car Im after for a 2nd car, unfortunatly I wont have the money till september to seriously look at a runabout and your too far away even if you still had it in a month or two Good luck with the sale anyway, nice little car.
-
Oh damn When I noticed a slight leak from the rear of the cover I thought I would check the bolts. They were very slack to the point that you could undo them with your hands so I nipped them up slightly. I tightened them until there was resistance with a little socket set. I figured they should'nt be dogged down to allow for expansion but it just seemed that they were far too slack. Hope nothing has broke, I must go check now

I have also been looking into runabouts for alana for work ect and decided that a vectra (after some reading) has random timing belt failure and a mondeo is on the large side. After more searching I also decided that a escort fitted the bill. Good size motor (not too big or small) and a 1.4-1.6 engine should get decent fuel return, bits should be cheap too as well as insurance. They can be had for well under a grand with 40-50k miles in pretty good nick.

Does anyone have a cam/rocker cover gasket available? I have a slight leak from the back, the bots were very slack but tightening them doesnt seem to have helped alot

It's probably me thats wrong I just thought I saw a pic once of how the rad is ducted and thought I was missing a bit from the bumper to the rad but maybe Im not. Does the stock front bumper sit right infront of the rad? (bumper sealed to rad if you know what I mean)
-
I am actually in scotland at the mo visiting the other halfs parents I am in a little place called balfron near loch lomand, prob too far away. Anyway, I have the black plastic that you can see when you open the bonnet but I thought there was a piece of ducting that goes from the bumper (the large hole in the middle) to the rad itself to prevent any air just passing round it. Or am I wrong Thanks for offering to meet anyway
-
hi there, I was wondering if any of you guy's who have maybe fitted a FMIC and have removed the standard ducting from the bumper to the rad may still have it lying about, if so or anyone has it please let me know Thanks

I didnt mean blocking it off completly, just so that it doesnt slide into N and you would have to use the button on the auto shifter to put in N if need be. I might try the above later when Im out and see how it drives. It seems there are quite a few different ways to use the autobox and having not explored all the possibilities it's like a new toy
-
lol, at least no damage was done I dont think they thought about the manu mode gear stick operation very much before making it, lol. I wonder if it is possible to change the way the blocks on the auto stick work and take the block off 1st and put one on N so you can change all forward gears without pressing the button and therefore eliminating accidental slipage into N or R. I may do some research but I dont think I will get far

for sale Anyone interested in Carnivorous Plants?
Chris and Alana replied to Dazzi's topic in Other Items
If the other guy does not want this plant may I be first on the list? Also interested in the small crop tooth if its still available. -
lol, not bad

Well yeah it does, but why would they also intent/let you slide it into neutral on the roll? when you going for it and you ambitiously go to slide it into third it would be quite easy to slip it into neutral by mistake, nothing can be done obviously as thats how it is, just might of made more sense to allow all the forwad gears to be slipped into place blocking off neutral, reverse ect. That way the button would never have to be pressed while moving which would eliminate any chance of slipping it into N or R by mistake. As mentioned before some people press the button all the time to change gear in manu mode which gives a greater change of hitting R instead of just slipping into N. Anyway, it doesnt matter really as it is how it is, but now I know how it works just seemed as though it would have made more sense to do it a little bit differantly.
-
As far as I know now, is that you have to use the button to go into 1st but it will slide into second third and neutral. From the replies from the guy's above it will not slide into reverse which is good, lol. they should have put a stop on it going into N as it's not needed while moving and taken the stop off from 1st so it can be slid into 1st 2nd and 3rd for ease and not have to worry about putting it in N or R by accident.

I am in need of a couple bits that I have wanted to sort on the supra for ages. If anyone has any of the following please let me know 1) Starter motor refurb kit 2) Driver side front window with NO scratches and NO tinits please 3) Either a new or very good condition ash tray and auto gear lever surround. Thanks.

I know there have been many threads on the autobox and manual mode but I have not found the answer to my question when using manual mode you can move the auto stick between 2nd and third gear (D) but if you want 1st you have to push the button in on the auto stick as it doesnt simply slide. I was wanting to know what happens with neutral and reverse. Is there a block to prevent an accidental change into N or R? and if not what happens if you then aim for D and go one further into N or R? can you simply put it back into D without any fuss? I obviously do not want to try this to find out what happens so thought I would ask
