  1. yes, set default gateways but you will need some routes for private networks to communicate, unless they are all on the same local network, in which case there shouldn't be anything to do anyway? lol
  2. sorry all that waffle but I hadn't tried to help with your original problem, which should be easy to solve. Arrange your local network with a private network address, like a 192.168.0/24 class c add a static route for the private network to use the ethernet card for the private network, on yor machine do the same type of thing for the other private machines so they can reply and that is it! providing i understand what you want to do properly static routes will overide default gateways, this is quite a common setup and i have a similar thing here
  3. Well in theory you could, but you would need a routing protocol in order to make sense of the routes properly. Something like ospf for example or bgp However I don't think ISPs would give you access to that for obviously reasons, you are an end point not an ISP yourself... That's my understanding anyway, could be talking bollox again of course lol
  4. using the interface metric does have characteristics worth knowing, for example if your higher priority (lower cost) card becomes unavaliable, traffic will take the next path - if that is undesirable (often it is) then it's best not to rely on this. Cost for routing is typically for when there are several alternate routes between the same endpoints. AFAIK anyway, just so you are aware
  5. you can have as many cards as you want in a machine, so long as they don't conflict. as carlos points out above for firewalls and routers, my own firwall has 3 cards in it no problems. use routing entries/default gateways to ensure traffic flows as you want it, easy peasy really
  6. Well said, that's the heart of the matter. Some people claim for personal gain, milk everything they can for what they can - this is the real problem. Those 'have you had an accident at work' type adverts make me mad, parasitic behaviour at its worst! However, trying to get some compensation because a mistake or neglegence has lead to loss of life is not the real problem at all. After all, that poor guy (from the other thread) was in the prime of his life, he may have had a family and kids, left behind with no one to support them now... Compensation is not wrong in this case, far from it. I've paid taxes and national insurance all my life, I've never claimed anything, benefits or anything else. I've only ever had one operation and that was over 15 years ago. So I'm a strong giver and not a taker yet I don't have a problem when geniune cases occur and compensation is sought, even if indirectly it costs me more. Remember, it could happen to any of us or someone we know, then your perspective may be 100% polarised the other way.
  7. omg that's aweful, really sorry to hear that
  8. I don't think sueing was ever meant to help the guilty party, that's looking at it backwards
  9. Yeah I disagree. If you took your car to a body shop and they messed it up due to a mistake, neglegence or for whatever reason you'd want some form of compensation... and that's just over a car, material goods... When it comes to life, you can't put a price on it, but that doesn't meant you don't deserve to see some compensation. What is concerning is all those claims for whiplash, a damaged carpet and so on that people make periodically because they think the insurance somehow 'owes it' to them!

    Why do we do...

I've been known to do silly things, usually when something is on my mind and I act abscent minded lol. I've sometimes found myself putting the milk away in the cupboard, going to get the coffee from the fridge etc.. it happens, and that's without drink lol I remember we lost something once and turned the place over for it, turned out it was in the freezer and had been put away with the shopping by mistake... JD and coke though, blergh that is just wrong
  11. well I'm not 100% sure but this http://developer.intel.com/design/mobile/desguide/25302604.pdf or the other dev docs from intel should tell you what you need to know, hth

avg is good, but is is no longer free now is it?
  13. how did it do? take it you killed it on your bike...
  14. oh no really sorry to hear that. Hope you get it all sorted out quickly and painlessly. At least no one was injured, the car can be fixed/replaced. Nice work for taking out the porker lol good luck sorting it out
  15. my better half had an operation today, thought she would be coming home but she has to stay in over night now
  16. I have a 3 pod and I don't find it distrating in the slightest. In fact you can sneak a glance at the guages without taking your eyes off the road, almost essential. If I had to look at the glovebox I'd probably hardly notice them and it would be too late if something was going wrong. not really a massive difference between 52 and 60mm tbh in any sense
  17. hmmm that's an interesting thought, but what does NoS do to insurance premiums and is it safe? how much would 50bhp nos cost as a setup then?

    Web Security

all I can say is it is good that finally the general public are finally becoming aware of these sort of things... which are not new and have been kicking around for years. I remember trying out some of the techniques yonks ago (just as a test) and it is amazing what can be done. generally your average site tends to be better defended these days but there are always the odd sites, and those put together by novices and home users are often full of holes. a little knowledge is a dangerous thing as they say... but at least well known attacks like sql injection etc are pretty benign which is just as well because any bored high school kid can play with those ideas.
  19. Bit of a long shot but I'm having trouble signing up with both jguru and javaranch forums at the moment for different but unknown reasons, so in the mean time, if you know about struts at all, I have a question that you might be be able to answer...
  20. out of interest, apart from the squeeking, are there any visual signs that can be checked for? I'd be interested to keep an eye on mine, as our cars reach a certain age I guess it's quite common for the stock original pully to be reaching that time
  21. omg that is bad. you could lose a lot getting caught for something like that, makes you think doesn't it
  22. Fairly standard looking silver supra, turned onto the A272 going West from a joining B road from the south, near Piltdown. There was a red RX8 in close persuit behind you.
  23. Fantastic! Nice one, loved it great choice of the soundtrack too, Pink Floyd. The begining is quite dramatic! What's that about only mild understear though, he driving a different model? lol
  24. if you're gonna have a play, ffs make sure you are in the right gear lol I'd reckon a decent BPU could hold it's own against any evo on the move and kill it at high speeds, but saying he was quicker while he was clearly thrashing the life of his car and you are driving like miss daisy waiting for the second turbo to kick in is hardly conclusive evidence lol ok so I'm being a bit cheeky, but remember regardless of what you drive, if someone gets a jump on you while you are caught napping it takes a large difference in power/performance to make that back up on a short blast say just up to a puney 100mph best advice, don't get caught napping, either be ready and play properly or don't try at all otherwise you're only going to let yourself down
  25. Who the heck are ADP? that video is grim lol I know how you feel. My last two jobs (I spent several years in each) started really well as small companies with a highly motivated workforce, got bought out by larger companies and went rapidly downhill. It was so bad the only solution was to move on. I've just started my new job, at a small company... lol but I can say, having worked for companies of 30-50 employees and companies with 100k employees, small companies can be a lot more fun
