  1. yeah most likely the hard drive either just overheating if you are lucky, but most likely it might be on the way out - hope you have your stuff backed up !
  2. well worth using http://www.allofmp3.com for the small fee per mb downloaded you get access to a massive library, high speed downloads, reliable always available service and consistent quality. + it has a decent front end client for searching through the pretty massive catalogue of music I put say a £5 on a month and it gets me enough to keep me going. For stuff I would really want to buy anyway, I but the proper CDs or even download it from itunes (although if I'm gonna pay I do prefer the CD) because it's good to support artists that really deserve it (although it is the music comapany that makes most of the £ lol) for what you want, I'd highly recommend allofmp3 - it is very convenient and it is not so blatently illegal like irc or torrents. Although allofmp3 themselves might be doing something dubious, it has been said that they could never 'do' the users directly and in fact they are having real trouble making anything stick on the actual company either - there is some blurb on the home page about it iirc if you want to know more

    Router help?

the light should come on regardless of the channel you are on / interference there is probably another setting somewhere that enables/disables the wireless side of things

    Router help?

I'd just like to point out that SSID broadcasting (or changing its name) has no bearing on security AT ALL! don't worry about it, seriously. If someone wants to know your SSID they will just packet sniff off the wireless, since SSID is sent in plain in every wireless packed anyway there is literally no point trying to hide it lol I think you are trying this already, but try and get it going without any wep/wpa etc first, you can add security later. change the channel only if you are clashing with your neighbours, again otherwise there is no point. I take it that if it came with an external aerial, that you plugged it in? Maybe that model doesn't, I'm not familiar with it. When you get it working, you'd be better off using wpa if you can. good luck with it, normally wireless is a piece of cake to get working, maybe you have a duff unit?
  5. Never dabbled myself but my new job is at a place where one of their main existing products is for the stock exchange. Backed by the LSE, I did some work on it last week, watching all the data going up and down and the transactions going through is completely crazy! It's using level 2 data, apparently this is a good thing but it means nothing to me, it's like a whole different world - I like the software involved though
  6. ahh no worries, think it's probably sorted now anyway just got and installed the latest rpms, all sorted, jdk1.6 and tomcat 6 all working (I think) time for beers
  7. I need to set up a server at work. It has some version of Fedora core on it already (think it is 4.1) I've setup up most of what I need, but I need (the latest versions of preferably) Ant (1.7) and Tomcat (5.5 or 6) now, if I use yum it only seems to find tomcat5, which is installed already - and Ant is no where to be found. would it be best I just download the tar files and unpack then, setting up the environment by hand? in which case where is a good place to put something like ant. or would I be better off using a package repository and and package installer? in which case where can I get the latest ant and tomcat packages ready to install? sorry for the basic question, but I'd rather do it right once than have troubles later the current instal of tomcat 5 (as installed by yum) seems to have some parts under /etc but I can't find the rest of it, like the webapps directory. Any ideas where that might be and if I install by hand I have to replicate this structure?
  8. good luck to you then! hope it works out for you... what is it, if you don't mind me asking
  9. Well I posted up a while back about staying or leaving at my last company, and since then I decided to move on. I started last Monday. so I've been in the new job just 9 days now, and wow what a difference. I've done and learnt more in the 9 days than in 3 months in the old place! Mainly because there's no office politics to deal with, it's just a case of getting on with it Got a brand new project starting next Monday using loads of exciting technologies to use and learn - can't wait In 6 months time, with all the new stuff under my belt my future will be so much brighter it is untrue! just goes to show, often the grass is greener - it just takes the courage to make the move sometimes...
  10. I agree that paying just a little extra for decent isurance with sky is well worth it - we all know what insurance companies are like should the worst happen, and book values are sometimes depressingly low - especially if you've modified the car too
  11. lol now that's what I'm talking about I love a hot curry. I love 100% pain sauce, that is nice Come to think of it, I'm having a curry tonight, it's been ordered, just waiting for delivery yumyum
  12. yeah don't underestimate bpu, it's still devistatingly quick. I'd say probably quicker than some singles when they aren't set up just right...
  13. call that stuff hot? pffft lightweight
  14. lol yeah, sounds familiar, I think they all go at the back of the roof under the rear roof spoiler in the end...
  15. some very nice car choices on here. I also remember I have a softspot for the Triumph TR6, wire wheels, convertable and in maybe pimento (spelling?) red/orange or magenta. Old british classic, not cheap these days though for a nice one...
  16. very nice! chromes work so much better against shiney black imho looking good fella, very nice indeed
  17. lol well I had an integrale, and it positely rusted before my very eyes lol
  18. hey I saw a lovely red beta monticarlo a while back at an italian car track day - it was absolutely gorgeous, I'd add that to my list also
  19. without a doubt I'd love my next car to be an ultima gtr I'm gonna have to start saving soon but also I do have a softspot for: Lancia delta integrale evo (great alround car, shame about the build quality) Ferrari F40 AC Cobra Lotus exige is quite nice Dodge charger - old school and so on...
  20. Rarely during the day unless it is very dark - but I also use the fogs when driving at night because the lights are quite dim sometimes Babe, the frong fogs use regular H3 bulbs, so you can replace with anything, xenon, even higher wattage ones if you like
  21. def worth a go with a pin first before anything else It's just one pump I think and the pipe splits (it goes into the underside of the bonnet
  22. very nice they both sounded pretty awesome too!
  23. that is the same link again?
  24. I think just off the line you're gonna struggle to get decent traction, maybe some suitable tyres and launch control (if manual) will help do the trick more convincingly
