ashloys Posted November 30, 2015 Author Share Posted November 30, 2015 So me and my mate decided to concrete part of my driveway the other day when I was off as there was a sharp 2" incline up into my drive. We got this done and I lowered the rear of the car as much as I could on the Teins (still not very low btw!). Didn't actually get any pics of how it's sitting after powering it more but ill get some this week. Went to fit the RMM lip too but it got too dark/cold/wet by the time we had finished everything else. Also, any tips getting the front bumper off? I know there's 5 plastic rivets along the top and 2 10mm screws on in the front arches that are clearly visable. Apart from those, where are the others? Anyways, here's some pics! Either my friend is going to plastic weld it and paint it at some point or just get a new bumper, preferably UK. That's the least of my worries at the minute though, getting everything mechanically 100% first before I do anything else. Manual conversion is top of the list. Need the interior tidied up too. I'm refurbing all of the dash panels in frost wrap soon and dying the carpet black. A new steering wheel, headunit and seats will be on the cards next year. ashloys Posted January 31, 2016 Author Share Posted January 31, 2016 So on Saturday I decided to get off my arse and fit my RMM V2 splitter I bought a while ago, could have probably picked a better day as it was about 0 degrees and intermittently snowing lol. I got the car jacked up and on axle stands, raised the front coilovers ever so slightly and got the bumper off. A lot easier than I was expecting! Then as I'm too much of a wimp I brought the bumper onto the house to take off the old splitter and fit the new one along with a cup of tea lol. Within 5 mins I realised this wasn't going to be as straight forward as I originally hoped as several of the nuts/bolts were seized and/or spinning with no way to clamp them. My daughter was arriving shortly after so I decided to leave it for a while and sort it later in the evening. I tried various things throughout the day with no success and ended up going to my mates and borrowing his grinder. At about 12 am I eventually got it sorted with my daughter fast asleep in bed grinding away in the kitchen The aftermath of the grinding, didn't think it would make that much mess. Woops! Anyways, after that the splitter went on effortlessly and the fit was perfect. Then today I went over to a friends house, a member on here (np89) and collected a set of amber indicators as I honestly prefer them. Thought it was a good time to change them when the bumper was off. I gave them a quick polish and popped them on before going out into the torrential rain to re-fit the bumper. Also, my clear ones were badly corroded on the inside and looked terrible! I've also ordered ALL of the remaining parts to complete my R154 swap, so that will be done very shortly. All the parts are from Driftmotion so will probably take a while to arrive. But when they do, I'll be leaving the car up to get it sorted. I can't wait!! I still need to refurb all of my dash panels and dye my carpet but I literally can't afford to spend another penny on the car atm. I'm broke after buying thr R154 parts. No, my friend Derek from DCM in Ballymoney is doing the work for me. Bit of a trek from Belfast but it's worth it. Know JZ's well and very well priced. All the bits I needed from driftmotion; arp flywheel bolts, vehicle speed sensor converter, braided clutch line, bellhousing bolts, marlin crawler shifter bushings, greddy sump plug (didn't need it, was just there and I couldn't help myself..) and various other bits like input/output shaft seals. The auto box, coolers and everything else has been dropped out and we've instantly came across a problem. The rear half of my TT Auto diff is splined at the UJ and can't be mated to the 4 bolt flange of the R154 front half of the prop. It also can't be cut/welded/balanced to suit as the props are different diameters. So I'm on the lookout for an NA5 or NA auto rear prop with a 4 bolt flange and the CORRECT diameter! If anyone has one, please give me a shout. ALTHOUGH.. I've just started refurbing my brakes, they have about 20 years of various colours of hammerite on them so it's been pretty grim. ashloys Posted April 10, 2016 Author Share Posted April 10, 2016 So I refurbed my brakes and they turned out pretty well. Whenever they came off the car they were bogging. There was various different layers of hammerite over the years slapped on, caked in brake dust and grime etc.. I certainly didn't enjoy doing them. Although they came out pretty well They started out like this.. Then I used degreaser etc and power hosed them for good measure lol And spent many many hours with a drill and wire brush, it was hell. But eventually after many hours using that and also an electric sanding mouse, which was an absolute life saver btw. I had them pretty well flattened, or as close to for brake calipers and ready for some etch primer. Then layered on a pretty thick coat of high build primer and wet sanded them down Then I started using some normal vht black paint and actually used a whole can giving all of them nice good coats Then I used halfords Metallic Black VHT for the top coat, which for the record, isn't f#$@ing black.
