gordy.r Posted June 23, 2014 Share Posted June 23, 2014 Suddenly on the way through to Crail on Sunday my heater in the car started blowing hot air when turned down fully cold. I stuck on the air con thinking this might solve the problem but only aggravated it even more. Again today it was cold for a matter of two minutes then the warm air started coming through again, so bad I had to close all the vents. Went back out again this evening and normal cold air operations had resumed. Any ideas as to why this is happening and a possible cause? The low pressure connector is a gray cap with L on it at the back of the engine bay. You would be better getting it done at a garage but I've done it a few times and one charge normally lasts the summer. You get £10 back on the bottle so keep the receipt if you go for it. mwilkinson Posted June 24, 2014 Share Posted June 24, 2014 Sounds like the expansion valve to me. Short period of cooling then it cuts out and warm air only. Had the same problem with my previous Supra. It's not a difficult fix as the expansion valve can be accessed by removing the Air Condensor from behind the dash. The expansion valve is at the rear of the Air Condensor. No need to remove the dash, can be done by removing the lower glove box. If having this done have the receiver drier replaced too. Parts are relatively cheap from factor places. If you search under receiver drier you will find some threads about this. I had all the work on mine done by a specialist which cost approx £400. You could get the system vacuumed by Kwik Fit or similar, have a pressure test at the same time, then fit the parts yourself and return for a regass. That would save some money for sure. Ah right, this sounds like a little more work but probably something that is worth doing on a 20 year old car regardless anyways. rider Posted August 17, 2023 Share Posted August 17, 2023 I would look to the door motor on top of the heater box leaving the blend door in the open position. It is a common fault in particular with newer Ford's where the door actuators either strip plastic teeth of wear out on the rotor electrical contact strips. mwilkinson Posted August 19, 2023 Share Posted August 19, 2023 Did you get any foam coming out of the vents? The foam could have collapsed and temporarily jammed the blend door / motor too.
