How do stretched tyres perform

What i basically want is 18'' rims to fill the arches, so 8.5 front and 9.5 rear, but don't want to massively up the size of tyres from the 225 std size. I may even go 8.5j all the way round, but then that may look a bit boring on the back.

I'm not into stance/stretch, all this ballhooks, but as said i don't want massive rubber. Maybe 245 will be fine on the rear if i go 9.5j.

I'm basically happy with my 225 55 16 std tyres on supra wheels right now, but of course they look a bit boring

Why not just get appropriately sized wheels & tyres then?

There's no point in getting a 10" wheel if you're not looking to use the extra width. With your goal in mind I would just go with 8.5J all round, keep the widths as you would like them and have a slightly more agressive offset to complete the look you are after. Getting wide wheels when you don't want wide tyres or a stretched stance is a bit daft really.

For what it is worth, the stock 17" Supra wheel utilised a 255 at the rear. ;)

Can i ask why ? 335's belong on 13" + width wheels

All i can see happening is the tyre being out of shape because its too wide for the wheel

Straight line traction without paying the price for 13" wheels I guess.

Can only imagine the tyres being wrecked on anything resembling a fast corner.

The ratio between the section width and the rim width is pretty important. If the rim width is too

narrow, you pinch the tyre in and cause it to balloon more in cross-section. If the rim width is too

wide, you run the risk of the tyre ripping away at high speed.

To the OP Running the tyres you want to run on those wheels will be fine. I run more/the same stretch on my wheels and i have no bother, ok so maybe i dont have optomised handling but you are not doing anything bad. Trust me they are 10mm skinner then the guidelines.

A friend of mine has a 400bhp Mk1 Focus RS stretched i.e 215 on a 10" rim. He drives that hard and fast and he doesnt have any issues.

Has the Club been infiltrated by Saxo immigrants?

I'm surprised the thread hasn't been censored in consideration for Chris Wilson's blood pressure. :D

:D

My fronts are at the lower limit and the rears are at the upper, going by the table :)

The rear tread is on the lower limit also..

I think it's the members of the VW community who are the biggest culprits for over stretching tyres. Thankfully VOSA concentrate on more serious issues, like your after market exhaust is too loud or your washer bottle is empty.
