This might help some of you

Landrover's brake cleaner is the nuts by the way ....

They turned out great for you :)

As I did my last set of UKs before fitting them to the car, I didn't have any issues with how long I was waiting etc.

Out of curiosity, how long did you wait after painting before using the car again? :)

imo the uk (bigger) spec brakes look good painted, but the j-spec look too feable to pull of the lairy colours.

 +1

I painted my UKs in blue (my accent colour that I've now also carried through with my K-Sports) and I think it looks, without exaggerating, 1,000,000 times better than stock. :D

Really can't remember to be honest .... Ideally leave it over night IMO ...

I recently painted the calipers on my mr2 turbo. I just wire brushed them, wiped them over with panel degreaser, then applied 3 decent coats of smooth hammerite. I let each coat dry for a good few hours, and they came out really well

I'm planning on doing the supra ones in the same manner, but I cant decide whether to go red or black, with the correct supra decals ?

I'll never use Hammerite again, when I did my calipers last year I ended up stripping it all off again because it just wouldn't harden, days afterwards it was still soft to the touch and would mark with a fingernail, it also reacted when I accidently spilt brake fluid on the caliper.

After stripping the calipers back to bare metal again I used Foliatec caliper/engine paint, it's a 2K brush on paint that you mix a hardener into. It brushes on so much easier than Hammerite (which is quite 'sticky' to brush on). The Folitec paint smoothes to a really good finish and within an hour is set hard. It's more expensive but a single pot is more than enough to do a large set of calipers. Because it's a 2K paint you only have a around half an hour or so before it starts to set, so best to mix just enough to do 1 or 2 calipers at a time. It doesn't react to brake fluid either and a year later still looks as good.

I used Halfords own-brand caliper paint when I did mine by the way and found that to be very good. It's cheaper in price to the above-mentioned Foliatec stuff and applies more like Hammerite (no hardener). You're limited on colour choice but it may be easier to get hold of if you're in a rush. Anyway. Recommended! :)

Look well those! avoid the cheesy supra logo and go with the Toyota one you have here in my opinion

Well I'm not overly keen on my red ones still. And the paint that covered the pad area has now been transported to the back of the wheel.

Think I'll be going black when I get some spare. I think having dark candy red wheels just clashes too much with the bright red. Rog yours looks nice. Mine definitely don't pull off red UKs that nicely

what type of sanding paper did you use?

I take it that the paint was brushed on, was it hammerite or standard paint with high temp lacquer?

My front calipers were looking a bit rusty and flaky, the rears looked ok but I decided to paint them all red. So I got them off, blasted them with the pressure washer with a power lance, sanded them with a wire brush in a drill, then with a wire brush by hand for the hard to reaxch places, then I pressure washed them again and wiped with cleaner. Then I hung them from a beam and sprayed them with VHT Red paint, applied the decals and sprayed them with VHT Clear lacquer.
