and the best job is

welding my diff.

took a few snap of this- as sure many of you are more interested in this

got it on the slab ready to operate

image

image

droped the back plate off-

image

let it hang for few days to let oil drain out. (only for a few days as this was the time scale between startign and getting chnace to finish it

image

to make sure all the oil is out and its nice and clean- a spot of fire!

this also serves to pre heat the steel ready for welding

so started by welding the son and planet gears together in each of the 4 corners on both sides

before

image

after

image

then moved on to welding it up solidly by making a plate that drops in and welds on all sides to all 4 gears.

this was then repeated on the other side.

image

image

image

looks a little dirty- but smoke/soot from welding- came right off with some brake cleaner

so while i wwas at it- cleaned up the back plate- so let it soak in some clean for a while- and then washed it off

right- after a stupid long long week- i got it sanded inside

so we got it in, put up a sheet -

cleaned it.

saturday we primed it, and then sunday- we painted the inside.

to say it didn't go well was an understatement

the last coat reacted with the ones already on- so it ran badly- and the high gloss finish was well- flat. no shine.

so will be repreped this week and re shot next wkd.

so re cap- when we apinted it- there was a massvie reaction in the final coat of the paint. many people have told me many things- but eother way- we had to flat it and shoot it again... and that sucked.

but while this was in progess i've been up to another a few other jobs

wheels

being a drift car- i'm going to need wheels- lot of wheels- so have a set of BBS LM's and have a nice set of lexus wheels- there actually borretts- 18x8, being lexus- stock offsets- so will drop on nicely

they will take 255- and will get a 225 on also

so spent hours and hours cleaning and sanding and flating- like 3-4 hours a wheel!

image

image

so- paint, painted them with 2k blue- same colour as the cage -

image

image

image

that is a picture of it dry- un polished, not flatter, straight of the gun!

doors-

if you can remember way back when- i cut all the guts out of the doors to get the weight down- they are 7kg per door now- (without glass)

so dug them back out-

cleaned up all the edges, as tey were very rough from the grinding/cutting- just filled them smooth

then good DA - got most of that awefull orange paint off- 240- then 400 to get a nice finish

image

image

image

image

so all clean- i primed them- inside first- little awkward to get in the inside- but i managed-

image

image

image

image

so after priming- i put a good guide coat on - he guide coat will allow me to flat the surface smooth-

bumper-

so while i was in the mood for body work- i fetch the bumper down -

it's a bomex - correct me if i'm wrong

image

so not in the best shape= but still in one piece-

bit of a crack on the top - next to the Nearside head lights sits-

cleaned it up- (opened up the crack with a tiny grinder- cleaned up all the fibres and then glass fibred it underneath- with 2 part resin and glass matting- and boom. done

image

image

another night sanding- so a beer to keep me happy (ish) :)

image

after a good sand- not looking to bad now- had a touch of filler here and there (not pictured)

right- after spending another 20plus hours sanding the inside- not joking- 2 of us- for about 4 evenings- sanding- had to get the 80grit out in places and go back to bare metal - as the paint had reacted that badly had eaten into the primer- worst parts were around the gearbox tunnel and floor pans

image

so cleaned up- and bit of primer- were needed
