Ah yes, those were the pics I had (might not be those actual ones, but they showed the same pages). Sorry M, didn't get time yesterday to look for the pictures. I saw the car when it was semi-complete at Paul's workshop. Looked like a nice bit of kit... which got broken for parts :( That was in '04 (?) so it was a working car until at least then.

how did you get them ? did you see them working on a car ?

I bought them using money and no, the car they came from was imported from Japan and broken for parts so I didn't see it run, would have been nice to have done, supposed to be a rather quick machine.

The car made more money for the seller in parts than it would as a whole.

I'm in south Leeds near the M1 / M62

(logging off now but will return tomorrow if you need any more answers)

A quick heads up - apparently this kit is rubbish according to a member here that's posting on the Club Aristo forum, please bear this in mind if thinking about buying:

http://clubaristo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16063

Obviously I know you chaps wouldn't be narrow minded enough to poo poo a product just because your own knowledge of the brand was nonexistent but all the same I think it's good to read the opinions of others, hence the link.

I have nothing to hide, anyone is welcome to come along and inspect the bits and if you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them as honestly as possible.

Some chap, name looks familiar ;), seems to be trying to tell a potential buyer that he should just buy his car instead but he then goes on to say...

That particular set of twins is about as rubbish a turbo as I would ever put in anything. Just look at that compressor wheel http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/turbos/twins/big-twins-11.jpg its basically a disc of steel sliced into 5 segments and twisted, a bit like a childs wind toy. And IHI who exactly are they??? Barge pole and that set I wouldn't touch with someone elses.

...now obviously he wouldn't want to be putting people off to try and push the sale of a ready to roll car and I'm sure he's right that these turbos are the worst you can buy, I mean XS Power would probably be a better option but all the same I thought I'd just post up my input to the thread there in case the green-named one decides to flex and removes it...

I noticed a few hits from here on my web stats so thought I'd join up and say hello, I wasn't expecting to see something like this though... erm... thanks.

Good to know that the box of turbos I have are no better than something XS Power might offer, there was me thinking that they were among the elite of road turbo offerings but hey, if you haven't heard of IHI then they can't be *sigh*

I realise I have an interest in selling these items so clearly I'm going to be more on the positive side of things when discussing them but at the same time the last thing I want is an unhappy buyer, with this in mind could you quantify the comment "Barge pole and that set I wouldn't touch with someone elses" for me please? If there is an issue you are aware of please tell me so that I can keep this in mind.

The fact that you have never heard of IHI yet consider yourself in a position to "poo poo" them is a little contradictory is it not? Are you familiar with a car made my Nissan that's been launched recently? A GTR or something I think they call it, rather fast, responsive engine... twin IHI turbos with "disc of steel sliced into 6 segments and twisted" - maybe it's that 6th one that makes all the difference? OK I appreciate they are a lot newer, technology has come on but they bear the name IHI... that makes that crappy right? Because you've never heard of them. That Ferrari F40 engine was pretty dire too wasn't it... Oh IHI twins, really old ones... how ever did it manage to go so fast? Damn these companies for being so cost effective instead of getting proper turbos *sigh*

Maybe I should sprinkle some glitter on them? Would that help?

It's a one off kit, this was never available for the 2JZ in any shape or form, it's unlikely there is anything else like it in the world on a Supra or Aristo - that was the appeal for me but I lost interest in the pursuit for power, hence the sale of all my bits and pieces. I'm not here to push for a sale, I'm thankful that someone thought they were worthy of being posted here for discussion, always good to hear from an aircraft tech when discussing car bits though, like talking about cakes with a plumber in some ways (yeah I know, the theory carries over a little, don't shoot me, I'm teasing).

At the end of the day it's a custom setup, made by Zenitani for their demo car - as a Skyline specialist I suspect they had one of the Apexi kits kicking around in stock and decided to see how it would cope on a Supra, 900ps and some low 10's later (apparently) it seems to have managed OK. Yes it needs some parts to finish it up, nothing too major and nothing beyond the talents of a backstreet grease monkey let alone a specialist tuner. I think it's priced pretty fairly for what it is but at the same time I'm open to feedback and have enjoyed reading what people have said in here - thanks for taking the time to discuss these bits.

Of course I'm highlighting the negatives here and in response a number of members who don't know me or the kit have replied with positive (and more eductated) input. Make up your own minds on this one folks but before you do so please consider the facts rather than the hype or input based on nothing.

Thanks for listening, over and out.

OK I know I'm an ass at times and enjoy a bit of banter and I know I'm trying to sell these turbos but is he just out to ruin my sale with his input or are his additional comments accurate? I don't believe them to be but then I'm concerned that as the seller I'm blinkered on the subject.

It's a bit annoying though when a chap over there is genuinely interested but someone seems keen to muddy the waters with unfounded comments based on theory picked up in a completely different arena.

The gentleman's experience with gas turbines in planes doesn't really have much relevance to mixed-flow automotive turbo's (which it would appear he hadn't heard of). When someone who claims to be somewhat of an expert in these matters hasn't heard of one of the biggest turbo producers in the world, discard anything they say.

Although if you bolted those turbo's onto a plane, they might be crap, who knows.

If i was looking for a drag based car, or i could afford to do all the further supporting mods required to give it justice...then i would be all over this like a fly to shi*t :D .

If I were looking for a drag based car there's better turbo's out there than these nice responsive quick spooling ones. Or so they should be anyway, they'd make a great fast road/track car :)

Somewhere on the web there is footage of this set-up being used...

Micheal - worry not. With the supporting mods this set-up was rated at 900ps - the guy who built the car, an almost 'legendary' tuner in the GTR world, took these turbos, normally reserved for the GTR, and made an exceptionally quick machine.

Nice response to the thread BTW :)
