How difficult is this to do? I have the step by step guide off mkiv.com and a friend to do the work (free of charge!). The thing is my mate isn't a mechanic, well not as his current trade. He could rebuild his Impreza blind-folded and worked a couple years as a mechanic on Fords and Jags. I was just unsure about how tricky this job is, he seems pretty confident he could do it. Anyone done this and had problems? Is there anything else I should be looking to change whilst he's doing the work? Any advice appreciated.

Just to be clear, if there's excessive oil in the IC is this turbo seals? Or could valve stem seals cause this too?
-
Cheers Sanjay - I'm hoping it's just stem seals. My symptoms are similar to yours. Clarkey - How can I get it checked to know for sure which it is? I'm only down the road from CW but will he be able to tell without stripping the car down? Or is there any way I can definitely determine the diagnosis myself?

My Supra has always had the tinyest amount of blue smoke on start up which I could live with. But since going BPU the inevitable happened and now it's a whole lot worse. Trouble is I started getting paranoid after I thought I saw blue smoke whilst pulling out a junction (I was following my old man who was driving my Sup) So today I had my mate follow me for a good ten minutes at both steady speeds and with me giving it some - yet not a sign of blue smoke. Then just to make sure we let it tick over for a minute or so then blipped the throttle - blue smoke!!! :( I've done a search and there's conflicting info. Basically is this just stem seals or turbo seals too?

I'm with Matt on the private plate thing. I've just gone BPU and the next thing on my list is a private reg and some facelift headlights. Without my L reg number plate and nasty yellow Jspec headlights I doubt most people would know how old my car was with these things changed. As for a reg Matt, you really should try for something in suffix style (eg: MAT 123H). Most 'young' people wouldn't realise they had a date on them. I reckon they're the next best thing to cherished and still reasonably priced. Anything in the prefix style looks naff imo. Especially as it can make your car look even older!

I'm undecided on this tbh. I voted for the Sup but I can totally understand the desire for a newer car. If I had 350Z money I could never spend that kinda wedge on a Supra regardless of mods. I personally could never justify buying a Sup that costs £15k+ because you can buy a TT for £6k. No doubt a TT that costs £6k isn't in the same league as the big singles etc but essentially the car is 13 years old - regardless of which year it was manufactured.

Cheers all, Peejay - that did exactly what I wanted! Cheers

When you look at an MP3 filename in Windows you can right click the file and rename it. But you can't edit the Album section. Anyone know how to do it? I've downloaded a load of Jo Wiley Live Lounge tracks and wanna rename the Album part of the file so they all appear together under the same album on my Ipod.

Bought me an Advent laptop back in Feb - model 7091. Went away last weekend to come home to my laptop with a smashed screen. My younger bro (most likely the culprit) is not owning up to it. Just spoke to PC World and they want £120 just to look at, then more for parts and labour. I cant just buy a new screen either as Advent is part of the Dixons/PC world group. Anyone got any idea how much a new screen is gonna cost or a way to fix it myself? I've got a horrible feeling this is gonna be £££££'s

I tend to use isohunt.com and torrentspy.com I also use torrentz.com which searches all the other sites.

Both cars are the bollox to be honest. The GTR is the only other car I would consider buying. You need to ask yourself what you want from the car though. The Supra is no doubt a much nicer looking car and the GTR obviously handles better. My Supra gets stares from everyone who sees it and I've yet to meet anybody who doesn't think it's gorgeous - especially the ladies . I doubt Skyline owners can say that! As for your budget I think maybe you don't need anywhere near that. £15k should get you a nice big single. Your money will also go a lot further on a Supra as the Skyline is a lot more expensive. Check out the club insurers Sky, they're used by most on here and insure all mods.

I've bought both Cat C and Cat D cars in the past and never had any problems. I've also bought salvage and done them up myself. The reason I've bought them in the past is because at the time it was the only way I could affortd that particular car. The way I see it, buying a registered car is no different from buying a car with say, high mileage. The car is cheap to start with so the re-sale value will be cheap too. People may be put off by the history of the car but somebody will buy it if the price is right.

Pm also sent Gaz If I could get one before the dyno I'd be well chuffed.

I'm booked in for a Dyno this Sunday and have all my BPU stuff sorted bar the FCD. I've had one on order from Thor now for two weeks but they still don't have stock. I need to get a FCD by Saturday at the latest. I'd prefer to go buy one from a shop but the only place local to me is Graham Goode Racing in Walsall, they have them in stock but want £120!!! Anyone know somewhere in the West Mids I can get one from, or somebody I can order from on the net that will guarantee next day delivery?

I'm incapable of parking my Sup anywhere without looking back at it countless times as I walk away. Also, if I'm somewhere like KFC and I'm in the queue looking out at my Supra in the car park - I can never understand how people walking past my car aren't staring at it as much as me! As everyone else says, you really can't believe the Supra is 13 years old.

My old man was a right muppet. He had knee surgery and had his right leg in full plaster. This didn't stop him riding his R1, he just slotted a stick through the front of the bike cage and rested his leg on that! He got followed by a copper who stopped when my Dad got off the bike at the shops. My Dad had tracky bottoms over the top of the plaster so the copper wasn't sure if his leg was in plaster or not. 'Is your leg in plaster' the bemused copper asked 'No' said my Dad 'My doctor advised me to keep my leg straight as possible cus I hurt my knee' 'Oh' replied the copper 'I was gonna say, nobody would be that stupid to ride a motorbike with their leg in plaster!' :D

Will do, I'm gonna take the ring out tomorrow and see what happens. Wanted to get a boost controller anyway so looks like that's next on my shopping list.
-
Nooooo! Must have more power! I wont rest until I'm making 1.2bar. My Sup has to be quicker than my best mates Scooby!
-
Ring from Chris Wilson and both cats removed. Which NGK's do you recommend?
-
Blitz boost guage, I'm assuming it's reliable. The car doesn't feel a great deal faster to be fair. I'm using the plugs suggested on this thread (NGK3330 @ 0.7mm) http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=41927 I'm assuming they're ok too
-
I'll remove the ring tomorrow, hopefully it'll up the boost some more. Should do I reckon.
-
Steve, that's what I've been thinking mate. Already been checking controllers out on ebay. I'm just a bit concerned that there's something wrong with the set-up i.e the plugs I'm using etc. I'm booked in for a dyno next Sunday and wanted this all sorted before then, looks like that wont happen now.
-
Ok, just reset the ECU and took it for a spirited run. Unfortunately no difference whatsoever. The car boosts at 0.9bar every time. Just to confirm I reset the ecu correctly, it's the little green 30A fuses I'm taking out? The ones that look like this: http://www.thedetailzone.com/Fuses.jpg I have 3 btw, not 2 as mentioned. Could the plugs be to blame for the lack of boost?
-
That gap was a lot smaller than on the plugs I took out tbh! I'll do the ECU reset first thing in the morning, I've just put my best shirt on and I'm off out on the piss, cant do it now!
-
1.2 bar from CW, compared to the decat pipe it made the bore minimally smaller. Do you think an ECU reset would work? Daft question but what's the quickest way to do it?
