  1. Thanks, I think I get it now. The mod to the Supra locks the TC so that there's no slip and prevents the box changing down, so on the rolling road it should behave like a manual.
  2. So the problem is both change-down and the torque converter slip under acceleration? It's more expensive than a relay , but it appears to be possible to use the "SupraStick" on the Soarer. If it does work it gives full manual shift control AND control of torque converter lock-up.
  3. I was under the impression that the Supra box in manual mode would not change down from 3rd, or am I mistaken? The Soarer definitely cannot be held in 3rd, only in 2nd (PWR and 2). Or is there another reason that autos are a problem on the rolling road?
  4. A Merc S500 is repaired at the "back street" garage which works on our cars. The owner takes it to Mercedes (90 quid an hour) for servicing, and tells them to let him know if any repairs are needed. Merc do the oil change (which costs a small fortune), stamp the book, then anything like pads, ball joints, plugs etc. are done (with genuine parts where appropriate) for £35 an hour instead of £90. Some jobs may need main dealers (the only place that could read the ECU error codes on my daily driver C-Class 230K, unfortunately), but in the end, they are all just cars. As said above, the tricky bit is finding someone competent and trustworthy (who knows his limitations). .
  5. Who the hell buys screenwash from a main dealer?
  6. PCD (5x114.3), offset (ET50), and centre bore (60.1) are identical to (some) other Toyota / Lexus models. Numerous other Japanese cars have the same PCD, but the offset tends to be 35, and the centre bore is different. As long as the centre bore is larger you can use spigot rings to locate the wheel. I don't know about Supras, but on Soarers the lower offset seems to make tramlining more likely.
  7. Go to eBay Help and search for activity limits http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/activity-limits.html

  14. It's a left-hooker, that parts list looks a bit "American" to me, and the pics were taken in the States.
  15. Do you mean the timing belt or the serpentine belt?
  16. Definitely the TT. Lap record is 127.68mph... 37.73 miles in 17m 43.8s. Speed trap record (in practice) is 201.8mph. It's surreal watching them do 160+ down a village street (like Kirk Michael below) a few feet away from you. The TT is something every petrolhead should see at least once, before it's banned. P.S. The Irish road races are arguably even crazier. Shorter courses, not as fast, but much narrower roads and crap surfaces. Sometimes shown on Men and Motors on Saturday.
  17. How's your mental arithmetic? For a quick approximation, multiply everything but the last digit by 6 to get the equivalent in miles per hour. 140 kph = 84 mph (actually 87.5 mph) 130 kph = 78 mph (actually 81.3 mph) 100 kph = 60 mph (actually 62.5 mph) 60 kph = 36 mph (actually 37.5 mph) 50 kph = 30 mph (actually 31.3 mph) EDIT: Typed 50 kph twice.

  21. Just checked the EPC 42611-1B010 Quantity 4 9305-9709 JZA80 SZ 16x8JJ 42611-1B070 Quantity 4 9709-9908 JZA80 SZ 16x8JJ 9908 onwards the SZ has 16x8 front and 16x9 rear
  22. I have a set of MkIV wheels which are all 16x8, and another set which are 16x8 F and 16x9 R. No idea which particular models they came off though... Maybe N/A and import TT?
  23. Mikey and John are discussing the autobox rather than the 6-speed.
  24. Just added the missing apostrope
  25. They've dropped a front-wheel drive engine/box/steering into the back of the Fiat 126 (originally rear-engined), and left the original steering gear in place. [ Alternatively, since they were made in Poland, it may be a rare factory prototype ]
