  1. Under full throttle it's fine. It only happens at part throttle, ie going from half throttle up to 3500 rpm then releasing to quater throttle, the box changes gear, boost goes from 0.6 bar to zero for a second, (if that), then back to about 0.3, (due to the less amount of throttle). While the boost has dropped you can hear a very prominent deep drone coming from the engine/exhaust before things rectify themselves. Could be my irratic driving style I suppose
  2. I fitted the HKS one as a suggestion to cure the problem. I've been told that the BOV can be adjusted but I don't think this will help as the problem happens while I'm still on the throttle.
  3. Now that sounds possible. I have a throttlebody without the butterfly. It only takes a few minutes to change... I'll give it a go...
  4. That's it exactly, although I only get it as I back off the throttle slightly. - If you have a boost gauge, you'll notice that the boost drops off to zero before things return to normal. Glad I'm not the only one
  5. That was it mate! - Price for installation... Swap you for a ride in your car
  6. No probs. I can't say when I noticed this started to happen though. The car is a 94 TT auto J-spec. Decatted, (both) with restrictor plate TRL VFCC HKS Hiper HKS R-type intercooler and hardpipes Iridium plugs TRD panel filter Blitz boost controller It was definatly doing it before these mods. Walbro high pressure fuel pump FSE fuel pressure regulator HKS SSQV Any clues?
  7. They have torsen lsd's but I don't know about oils. Sorry
  8. I'm hoping some of you techy guys can help here. I don't know if I have a problem or not... Recently, I have become more aware of what I think is turbo stalling. If I were to pull out of a junction sharpish, (or overtake something), if I then back off the throttle a little at around 3500 rpm, the autobox changes up a gear and I get a deep drone from the exhaust. At the same time, the turbo pressure drops to around zero. This only lasts about a second before the boost pressure stabilises, the drone fades away, and I can feel the engine is ready to go again. Does that make sense? - I assume it's not supposed to happen as I believe this is not good for the turbos. Any suggestions?
  9. I was getting a slight misfire at higher boost so i reduced the gap... Too far, then regapped again... Seems fine now I thought we'd done this ages ago, before you had even got your car back on the road. I've been expecting you for ages! No wonder you haven't been down! I'll dig out the price for you tomorrow and PM you. I have all the bits we need in stock... Just waiting for a demo drive
  10. I'm running Denso IK22's. Last time I bought them, I got them for £12 each. I'm now a bit scared though... I have re-gapped mine twice!
  11. Sounds like a dodgy solenoid. (generally attatched to the starter motor) If the solenoid is to blame, you should be able to hear a click coming from the starter area. Get someone to turn the key while you listen under the bonnet. (It'll be more of a clunk than a click)
  12. Totally off topic, How's your clutch now Michel? Did it survive Elvington?
  13. Strange... This seems to be happening a lot lately... Happened to me about 3 weks ago. It's been alright since. It's usually fitted behind the dash. I took mine apart and checked the connections. Removed the supplies and tested.. Been alright since... Or maybe I've just not been at that sort of speed since
  14. Depending on what exhaust you have, with both cats out, you can get 1.5+! Leon used my boost controller to try to keep it DOWN to 1.3 ish I still fitted a restrictor plate which brought it down to 1.1, and now use the DSBC to get back to 1.3 for my more 'enthusiastic' moments
  15. If it's anything like the Blitz DSBC, you can hear the solenoids clicking away when the units switched on. (Or at least I could when it was mounted to the inner wing, now I have mine mounted to one on the intake pipes and I can't hear it any more ). So, I expect the noise you can hear is the solenoids working.
  16. I upgraded to UK front about 6 months before doing the rears. No problems at all. Fitting the fronts only takes about 2 or 3 hours. HUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEE difference Go on Mark, you know you want to...
  17. Definately possible. Leon reduced mine using the DSBC. In Leons words "it's a boost CONTROLLER"
  18. Mark, I'm of the opinion that J-spec brakes are utter shite, but to be fair, I never tried uprated pads. I've changed my setup to the UK brakes and the difference is quite amazing. Imagine putting uprated pads in them! I know you're not exactly local but you're welcome to take my car for a spin to decide for yourself
  19. Not as silly as I feel. 'Cause I don't understand a word you just said!
  20. I'll see if there's a way around this problem during the week.
  21. Michael, what alarm do you have?
  22. Found it It was an intercooler hose. The one right at the back, ant the top of the front bumber. Pig to get to! Done now... Happy again - :phew!: (need a 'phew' smilie)
  23. On my way into work this morning, during a moment of haste, I had a loud pop from the engine bay as I let off the throttle in 3rd at about 5000rpm. This instantly resulted in the turbos becoming very loud and whooshing instead of whistling and a definate lack of any positive boost, (gets to just under zero on the gauge). I'm assuning I've either blown a hose off somewhere or split a pipe... Could be turbos but 'm not getting any real smoke from the exhaust, bit blacker than normal but no blue smoke... I've done a search on blown turbos and loss of boost and there's quite a few to read through and I havent got time to go through them all and write down all the various possibilities. Sorry for the lazyness, but can someone give me a list of probable hoses to check. - I've checked all the IC hoses and they're OK. If I rev the engine from under the bonnet, the whoosing sound seems to be coming from the turbo side of the engine roughly in the middle. I have had a quick look but things are a bit hot at the moment. Thanks for any assistance
  24. Mazman, are you running the stock ceramic turbos? I don't know what effect running it in true twin would have but if I used Martins 76 ratio, I think something would die quickly. FWIW, mines de-catted with a restrictor plate fitted, going on to a Hiper. I have a gain of 12 and my 1st ratio is set at 20, this gives me about 1 - 1.1 bar, and my second is set to 55, this gives me about 1.3 anything over this point, my EGT's start climbing above 900. My warning is set to 1.33 with a ratio drop (?) of 5 Like Martin, I only use the two settings.
