Hard to understand 450 bhp on 22 yaer old cars.
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in Supra Chat
Hi Peter, I agree with you, but we could move to Scotland where they have not suffered from mass overpopulation, there are many roads that have not been ruined by average speed cameras. If the SNP gain independence i will be OK as i am half Scottish and half Welsh.lol. Herbie. -

Hi Evin, Thanks for the movie. I am not a fan of the Yanks where they turn most things into a carnival, Wheeler Dealers are also drfiting down that road, however i did enjoy the engineering bits, and the two "hot rods" cleaning the car. Also i thought the exhaust sound in the last 5 minutes was great, i must look into sorting my exhaust out, but i think it is difficult to get a balance between a good street sound and not have the anoying droaning noise on longer M/way journeys. Hi Adam, I remember the "World Land Speed "Record" being highjacked by a aeroplane jet engine, many people, like me, only accepted the glory given to competitors running ICE engines, this is currently the same for the Teslar, as it is not classed as a real car, it is a high tech machine without any charachter, no noise, no driving skill,no car driving enjoyment, bit like "Beam Me Up Scottie" and take me to nearest planet, instead of a tour of Southern Ireland in a real gas guzzling rocket ship. I've been told that most of the "run of the mill" EC's are very quick up to 40 to 60 MPH, but after that they fall off noticably getting into the 90 to 120's. For 2 years now following my NAT conversion i have not had anything up in the higher speeds that was an issue for my bus, on the selection of M/ways we have in my nick of the woods, the Blackpool M55 on some afternoons is the place to be. I like this TV programme on "Quest" and there cannot be many cars that they have not included in their renovation and admiration portfolio, BUT, the $64K question, why no Supras? This frustrates me and i really cannot think why they have done this? I would also point the same question at "Top Gear", the looney one that worked well, not the current one that no body watches. Do any members know why? Herbie.

A close friend of mine has just bought a "BMW I-3" £21K. the value attributes are very impressive, very fast acceleration up to 40 mph, range 135 miles, no servicing, no corrosion, no road tax, level 2 driver less, solar panels helping the FOC electricity, all pre car heating on an app, as well as all charging points in the uk and if they are available, 3 phase charge 45 mins, seven year pay back on his capital outlay, batteries guaranteed for eight years and then only drop to 80% output capacity. Easy to see the possibilities, of high class cheap transport, PROVIDING YOU CAN AFFORD THE INITIAL OUTLAY. My friend has a few old cars, MX5's and a Land Rover, so he is living with just boring transport and real noisy, smelly, gear changing fun. Herbie. -
Check those hidden areas, Another Rusty Supra
herbiemercman replied to safcdixon's topic in Supra Chat
Hi Saf, I have owned my car for 23 years from new and i had a concern recently about the possibility of having the situation you have, but may be not as far gone. See my thread attached. Just a recommendation on rust proofing, i have been a "Waxoyl" fan for many years, i trated my cars every 3 years and to date have had no issues with corrosion. Hi Guys, Some good points in your posts, especially Scooter's post, because it is so much right at the heart of why i wrote my thread. I feel like i waited for 18 years with an NA, then shelled out £6K to get 450 BHP, which i enjoy, and then suddenly there are now high tech machines which i would never have dreamed of. I still think the MK4 Supra is a "head puller" and as i said in my thread, it is a pleasure to drive etc, however if you like "blowing other cars off", then this is now fading away, all be it this will become extinct for all car owners in the near future with exponential growth of technology for eliminating anyone who dares to exceed the speed limits, anywhere in the UK. Overpopulation has caused massive congestion on many roads, another barrier to drivers who like a thrill of speed. Anyway i hope i have not "thrown a spanner in the works" for any members who are selling their car, just hurry up with the sale, as my "sad bastard" outlook for the cars we love is quickly becoming dated, unless you just like pottering about and enjoying people admiring your pre high tech machine. Herbie. -
I watch "5Th Gear, "Wheeler dealers and "Top gear, and they put forward lots of top of the range very high cost motors and they are quoting 320 BHP, 400BHP, and just the odd one at 500 BHP. It just amazes me that many of our Club members are running these BHP's and more on old cars which look and handle probably as well as the £45K stuff. Am i missing something? I also never thought i would see the day where an electric car like the recent "Lotus" car would achieve 1,800 BHP and 0 to 60 in 1.7 seconds. It will cost circa £2M so we won't see many about. I will always want the gear changing and the exhaust note and a car that i have to drive, i left electric cars behind at Wigan Fair Ground. Anyway, what do you feel about how you take on board you driving a 20 yr old car with 450 BHP,or more, and your mate next door has a £45K car with 300 BHP>? Herbie.

Stock na engine air intake system what's it worth?
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in Supra Chat
Hi Frank, Just as i thought due to lots of NA conversions, it is just hard to bin stuff like this. Herbie. -
Hi Everybody, I have a stock air intake system in very good condition, owned the car from new. It includes the filter unit box and the MAF unit etc.? Herbie.

For me this thread is unique, for someone to find a car like this stored for 15 years, it has to be a major credit to the quality of these machines, we have a saying in Lancashire and it is: "The Luck Of the Irish", this definatly applies. Herbie.

I am with DNK, pressure test the heater system and eliminate this most popular failure mode. I had a wet carpet and i traced it to the door seal, it was very difficult to trace, as the water gets in, and can be no where near where it gets onto the floor pan carpet. I have owned my car from new in 1995 and always used Toyota "Forlife", so this should avoid the cooling system failing/leaking. Good luck. Herbie.

Discs front stock rear grooved sports ?
herbiemercman replied to herbiemercman's topic in mkiv Technical
Hi Guys, Just to close my question, re: will sports discs on the rear affect the braking balance. I tried the braking in the wet and it is superb, so i do not need to shell out any more dosh for sports discs on the front. I should also point out that the reason for replacing the whole rear system was due to the caliper pistons starting to stick on and i had binding, and really hot discs. I cannot complain as the set up i replaced was stock and 24 years old,and 46,000 miles, the discs were really bad, i also replaced the flexi rubber pipes as degeneration of the internal rubber lining can also prevent the caliper pistons from retracting, as the broken down rubber pieces act like a non return valve and the pressure engaging the pads stays on. Discs front stock rear grooved sports ?

Hi Guys, Tomorrow i am replacing the rear discs and pads, which are stock, for sports discs, which are holed and grooved, and quoted to give improved braking. The front discs are stock and were replaced a couple of years back. My question is, or your opinions, on will this upset the braking balance ? I do not think it will, but i would value other member's opinions. Herbie.

Hi Guys, My old man had a white XK140 Jag in the sixties with the wire wheels etc, i was only a toddler but old enough to start being a "petrol head". The aesthetics of the car stayed with me and it was only when the E Type came on the scene that i was in awe again. My first car was a Vauxall Cresta Hydroglyde in two tone leather with pale blue hide bench seats, straight six engine and it was a UK version of the similar cars in the USA. My youngest brother bought a Toyota Amazon Cruiser 5 lit diesel, my middle brother bought a Mk 3 Supra in red, i then part exchanged my Cresta for a metalic grey Celica, all great cars, looks and performance. My middle brother, who i miss so much, dealt with a big company that supplied our building materials, and the owner let him borrow his new MK4 Supra for a weekend, the cars were very rare at the time, but they drew a crowd, this one was red and the rear lights and head light design as well as the rear spoiler, and mega performance, "blew people away" including me. So, we had to have one, and we had to wait a while, then we became aware of an import company in Cork, Southern Ireland, we manipulated a great deal, for two as new, "Imports", a black autuo TT, and my bus a black NA manual with limited slip diff and Commando Toyota sills. To this day, 23 years on, i still feel these cars were "well before their time", and one of the few aesthetic designs, IMHO, that have stood the test of time, what do you think? Herbie.

The RR was white and a sport spec, he bought it as a "snatch back" from a drug dealer, probably got it cheap.

Hi Adam, Which car do you mean, the Merc or the Supra? Also why do you want to know, also welcome to our Club. Herbie.
