1. My top three film scores: 1. The late James Horner - Braveheart - Freedom Theme - Powerful, passionate, stirring and unforgettable! 2. Trevor Jones - Last of the Mohicans - Promentary Adapted from 'The Gael' by Dougie MacLean. Hypnotic and Powerful. 3. Thomas Newman - Meet Joe Black (Whisper of a Thrill) Hate the film, love the music! I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys film scores, I had wondered if it was too nerdy to admit to!
2. Very sad news, his back catalogue of work is immense, with Braveheart, The Perfect Storm and Apollo 13 being my particular favourites. For me, film score composers are the Classical composers of our time.
3. As a matter of interest, did you work out your fuel consumption for the trip? The Supra is a great GT car, but the fuel consumption has put me off taking it to the continent, so much so, on my recent trip to Luxembourg, it was way cheaper for two of us to fly and hire an E-class for the week!
4. Looks like a brilliant trip, I'd love to take my Supra across Europe and that's a very nice Supra you have there. Incidentally, I was in Clervaux in Luxembourg week before last, there was an electrical storm of biblical proportions on the evening Friday 5th June, wonder if it was the same storm?
5. I'll be around for this, I need to visit the big smoke for replacement bathroom tiles.
6. One of the IT bods at work has an '05 RS4 Avant, he's only had it for a couple of months and after he brought it into the work car park a couple of the petrol heads went down and looked it over. What a fantastic sound from it! He lives 3/4 mile from work and drives it in and back twice a day, by going home for lunch. If he sees me in the Supra at work, he always gives the throttle a loud blip to show off the V8 snarl. Should I open a book to see how long the engine will last before a rebuild is required?
7. I'm with you on that, the BBC is stacked full of upper class establishment twits.......... Big vote for Susie Wolff, Williams F1 test driver and down to earth babe.
8. Not a huge surprise, his name was linked early on with the job. Will I watch it? - Probably Will it be as good as before? - Probably not I just hope that they don't bring back Kate Humble! I'd like to see Sabine Schmitz or Susie Wolff as one of the presenters, for their driving skills obviously! Susie is a local girl to Argyll and is a very talented driver.
9. Stick me down for a Bronze ticket Marcus, booking the ferry in advance is essential if we all want on the same boat! Will send paypal payment later today
10. I'll be sure to try and video the carnage from the warmth of my B&B!
11. Update on the super unleaded petrol situation in the area, in Fort William, BP, Esso and Gleaner (uses Shell) all sell 97 Ron and On Skye (or just before!) Gleaner in Kyle of Lochalsh and Gulf in Broadford also sell 97 Ron Super Unleaded. I eyeballed these garages personally over the last three days when in the area.
12. Personally I'd hunt down paedos in this life and the next, I'm lucky enough not to have had my life ruined in this way, old age and getting away with it, are not good reasons to not prosecute perverts. From Sky News: "Detectives investigating historical child sex abuse allegations against politicians and celebrities have identified more than 1,400 suspects. They said there is no figure for the number of alleged child victims, but it is likely to run into thousands. The figures were released by Operation Hydrant, which was set up by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) to explore abuse by "prominent public persons". Norfolk Chief Constable Simon Bailey, who heads the NPCC's child protection team, said a total of 1,433 people are being investigated, and 216 of them are now dead. He said 261 are classed as "people of public prominence". Of these, 135 come from the world of TV, film or radio, 76 are politicians, 43 are from the music industry, and seven are from sport" The innocent have nothing to fear.
13. Been insured with Direct Line since 2009, they were a wee bit sticky at first, but when I gave them the list of mods, (body kit, exhaust, wheels) they were fine and only cared about a CAT1 alarm being fitted. I pay around £400.00 with protected NCD.
14. Dornie (Caberfeadh) on first night and Colbost (Old Inn, Skye) on second night.
15. I need to hit the trip advisor and other websites - I enjoy planning a trip though.
16. Yes, she's definitely up for the trip, she adores the Supra!
17. I'm in, I'm in Dornie this coming weekend so will book my accommodation for those dates.
18. Amazingly, I thought it was a weekend too, I need to check when the kids go back to school and the girlfriend can't come with me midweek either, I'm back on the maybe list again.
19. I feel sorry for kids these days when trying to get their first car on the road, life was simpler in the early 80's, I picked up a Hillman Avenger 1600 GL for £85, mot'd it and paid around £250 p.a. for TPFT! Back in those days virtually all our first cars were RWD and had 145 or 155 x 13 wheels and tyres - a great way to learn about understeer and oversteer at speeds that you could recover from! I would suggest something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vauxhall-chevette-3-hatch-long-mot-drive-away-/161695010736?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a5c60fb0 for a first car, learn how to drive on RWD and learn how to move on to Supras and other 'proper' motors!
20. We found 97 RON at the Gulf filling station in Broadford on Skye, the price was reasonable as they get the remote and island discount off the tax on their fuel. AFAIK, that's the only super unleaded to the north and west of Fort William, so I'd suggest topping off tanks at the BP in Fort Bill and re-fuelling at Broadford, which is only 17 miles from Dornie. I've done this trip a few times in another car I have that requires super unleaded, it's not a problem so long as you know where the garages are and keep an eye on the fuel gauge!
21. Using the Scottish Parliament as an example, as it has always used PR(STV), the first term in 1999 had a Labour majority party, 2003 had a Labour/LibDems coalition, 2007 had an SNP minority government and 2011 had a majority SNP administration, which nothing short of a miracle will change in the next elections in May 2016. Popular governments will still be in charge, but it does give more representation to the smaller parties like the Tories, who managed to get a total of 20 out of 129 seats in the Scottish Parliament and have had only one MP in the Westminster elections since 2001, (previous election to that in Thatcher times saw no Tories elected at all!) So the upshot is that PR does not always mean coalition government. Someone who sticks to their principles would be a start!
22. Your comparison is flawed, remember that the SNP contested 59 seats in Scotland and averaged 24651 votes in each of those seats contested, in comparison, UKIP contested 624 seats and averaged 6220 in each seat and the Greens averaged 2152 votes in the seats they contested. Only PR using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) would give a 'fair' representation of the voting habits, this is the system used in the Scottish Parliament and allows the Greens to have an MSP. Incidentally, UKIP received only 47,000 in Scotland, and rightfully, they have no seats under either First Past the Post or PR(STV).
23. I'm happy with that.
