  1. Thanks Tony, so long as the torque is retained thats main aspect for me and I will welcome the extra grunt on the very rare occasions the car is taken over 3,500rpm.
  2. As some of you may have guess, my car is going BPU week after next courtesy of Garage786. Parts to be used; - Whifbitz UK spec double de-cat - Whifbitz uparted SMIC - Greddy BCC - Gizmo Boost controller (can apparently set 4 boost options) - NGK grade 7 colder spark plugs + other stuff I personally feel that a standard well sorted 326bhp is plenty and to be honest I love the torque and even had a lovely drive today keeping below 3,000rpm (around 2,200/500rpm to be honest) with a satisfying smile on my face. I personally like effortless grunt to waft along on rather than rev something up. I am going to request the car's boost options to be set at 0.9, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 bar. (No Ash, I'm not going to touch 1.4! If my car stays 100% reliable I will allow you to whack it to 1.4 bar for a dyno run in the near future). Q. Will the car retain its effortless low down torque with BPU modifications? Q. What actual differences are there in performance with BPU (how does power differ, at what revs etc etc)? Q. What additional maintenance service wise is required (if any)?
  3. Lets hope its all good from here on for you!
  4. I double posted , didn't see this. Drop top supercars trying to find decent tarmac like the best driving road in Europe episode. Should be a great way to start. Shame about the X-factor rubbish, not my cup of tea and IMo should be brushed aside.

    Opinions on 3.0 D X5

A nice dynamic drive for a 4x4 and the 3.0d are good when running right but BMWs are not as robust as people like to think. Got 2 in the family, both 4.4 V8 petrol though. Besides the swirl flaps, the 3.0D engines commonly on the 5 series tended to blow the fuel systems (about a £1K-3K repair depending on severity). Cooling systems on BMWs in general are not great so be sure that there are no air locks, correct coolant grade and level etc as the basics are correct. Also, take a look at the interior, I'm a BMW fan, had a few, still got one, but in recent years the interiors have been poor with recycled 2nd rate plastics that you would not expect to find in a Vauxhall Vectra! IMO, a porsche Cayenne is a far superior quality vehicle, range rover Sport TDV6 is decent enough quality wise but very heavy. How about a wild card, Volvo XC90 D5?
  6. any news from Little Num yet? did he buy it?
  7. Sorry to not provide a positive answer, but, in general if you have a tasty car, insurers tend to require alarm/immobiliser uinits. I guess it will be a case of simply phoning around and asking or use Gocompare.co.uk and enter the insurance section, put your car in without any security and see what companies quote.
  8. Seems like a nice car, curious as to why it seems to be getting passsed on.
  9. Sounds like one of those long trips that you just have to do but it seems like it was worth it as you seem pleased with your purchase, looks nice.
  10. I WILL HAVE ONE PLEASE!. Just sent you an email to sales@whifbitz. Didn't see this on your website Paul, as you are supplying many other parts for me thsi comming week I'd like to get this item from yourself as well, at least that way all the parts are comming from yourself and we know they will be correct for my application. I will contact JDM performance and arrange to have my order cancelled. Garage786 are ordering the bits & pieces I need from you please add one of the Greddy BCC fuel cut thingies to our order please (Ash should be ordering the bits from you on Monday - please ensure UK spec parts are despatched as my car is a UK model).
  11. As mentioned, its looks stupid and like some chav whose parents have lent him lots of money but he's out of money after getting the car and wheels lol. The wheels stick out and make it sit wrong which will just make anyone with a decent car laugh their socks off at you.
  12. Lovely cars the UK specs, yours sounds like a genuine good one, best of luck with the sale.
  13. This is what comes up in google; http://www.suprastore.com/greddybcc.html Will suit me fine and the price is fine too - any UK retailer?? Found and bought the Greddy unit JDM Performance UK website http://www.jdmperformance.co.uk/item_detail.php?prodID=1818 Option was Supra 1990-96, hope this is correct for the MK4 as it includes the MK3.
  14. whats that got a link? I need to buy someting ideally on Monday!
  15. I guess you'll know from the viewing and test drive how slow it feels and how much the fuel gauge moves. Personally I find on older cars when they start to consume more its usually down the following which also affects performance; - perished fuel injector seals - ageing 02 sensor(s) - failing camshaft sensor(s) - vacuum line leaks
  16. I don't have Paypal..... I have emailed the seller with an offer just shy of the price of the item from Nengun and asked if they take payment over the phone on the off chance.....
  17. Been hunting the net all day for someting, but cannot find anything with a decent brand cheaper than this the above HKS unit from Nengun so will be going for that.
  18. Tried Thor no answer. Just found a HKS unit at http://www.nengun.com/hks/fuel-cut-defencer. Anyone know if there are any cheaper places? Whifbitz are only listing the the turbosmart unit which is considerably more expensive?
  19. We are in the trade. Rear wheels do need balancing on all vehicles. The inbalance from the rear wheels will be transmitted through the cahssis/steering accordingly to how bad the imabalance is. Some people don't really notice it, some people do. The more specialist your car is, the more evident unbalanced wheels will become via vibrations etc. Also, wheel weights are not cheap these days, they qre quite costly so it would not surprise me if some outlets try to cut corners even further. If the staff insist the wheels do not need balancing, I'd just call them a bunch of cowboys and go elsewhere.
  20. I need to source a fuel cut defender, can anyone please advise where I could get a decent unit without breaking the bank? (Just paid £1K today for parts & repairs so my wallets feeling bruised). I saw a HKS standard type fuel cut defender somewhere for about £69/75 (new) but now I cannot find it when I need it. Can anyone help point me in the right direction please to source one?
  21. don't think its needed on a UK car from the BPU tech article, but I could be wrong!
  22. I believe the boost gauge is shown within the boost controller ..... its this one; http://www.gizzmoelectronics.co.uk/Product_MSIBC.html http://www.gizzmoelectronics.co.uk/Image/MSIBC/G0921MSIBC.jpg
