Yes, sometimes garages use heat to take them off sometimes when doing cambelt changes. This weakens the rubber dampener and causes failure.

You cant replace it every other month, I see it as good practice to fit a new one at cambelt time and paint a line on it, just incase.

Wow, crazy money! Do a search if you want quiet aftermarket exhausts, they are cheaper than that usually.

Put a line through it, top to bottom over the central part - if it ever moves/slips so the line is not straight - replace it asap. Or replace it as you do the timing belt, as some garages use heat and put the old one back on, and then you have a ticking timebomb.

If you cant afford £100 to fix the speedo, what will you do when you need new O2 sensors or Tyres or Break Disks/Pads and god forbid the sticky caliper that we all get once during supra ownership!!

I used to do 2000 a month in mine, but when 40p a mile turns into 25p a mile. Then its cheaper to run something else for the remainder.. *Grins*
