  1. Is that better (or worse)?! Just add the two scores together to get the 'overall' score.

  3. I think I'm going to change this slightly so we can see the difference between zero scores that haven't received any votes and those where the net score is zero. I'll amend the instructions in the first post.
  4. Please don't be influenced by what others have scored - just because a score's gone negative doesn't mean it can't be bumped up again (or vice versa). The more people that give feedback, the more meaningful the scores - please post your recommendations!
  5. Ok, thanks for that. However, it would be useful to know which particular Marangoni tyre you're recommending.

  7. I've already apologised for raising a new thread on tyres elsewhere. However, it occurred to me that whilst we have quite a good consenssus on the best tyres for the Supra, it would be more useful if it were balanced by bad experiences. The best way to do this would probably be with a poll but unfortunately that feature doesn't quite have the functionality that is required (and is limited to just 20 choices). In my next post, I've listed all the current makes/models of tyre I could find for the OEM rear wheel size = 255/40/17 in a suitable load/speed rating. Based on your own experiences when fitted to the Supra please, amend the scores (by using cut-and-paste - 'quote' can mess things up) thus: add 1 to the existing positive score if you would recommend the tyre; minus 1 from the existing negative score if you would NOT recommend the tyre; leave the scores unchanged if you are indifferent of have no experience of the tyre. Please leave the tyres in alphabetical order but feel free to add any makes/models I've missed (and that are currently available). Remember! Please base your recommendations on your own personal experience when fitted to the Supra only. Obviously, you can make recommendations for more than one tyre but please keep to the +/- 1 scoring. Any additional comments regarding your recommendations and good/bad sources for tyres would also be appreciated but please keep them separate (new post in this thread) from the tyre scores.
  8. Interesting! They do seem to get very good reviews (similar tread pattern to the GS-D3s too) and they appear to be just about the only brand that has tyres in the previously suggested "oversize" for the stock rears (265/40/17 or 275/40/17). Will definitely bear those in mind if I don't get on with the Conti. SC3s.
  9. I decided upon the Continental Sport Contact 3 because they were available locally. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 seems a bit harder to get hold of but nobody told me they'd gone out of production yet. As mentioned before, I also got these tyres at (what I considered to be) a great price - just over £100 a tyre, fully fitted. It's worth shopping around as it seems to me, you can more or less pay what you want for any brand of tyre (the range in prices is totally ridiculous = up to £100 more in some cases)! N.B. That price was for the OEM rear wheel size = 255/40/17. The tyre fitter commented that the wheel width looked as if it could easily accommodate a tyre "a couple of sizes bigger", i.e., 275 (although there would be a 2.5% reduction in speedo. reading on the 40 profile). I'd noticed before that the sidewall on the front tyres seems to be a lot more vertical than that on the rears, to the extent that I don't think the rim protector would be very effective on the rear. Has anybody any experience of fitting a slightly wider tyre to the stock rears (without rubbing/rolling the arches)? Anyway, initial impressions of the tyre are very good and were immediately demonstrated on the road: on the way to have the tyres fitted, the roads were slightly damp/greasy and the car fishtailed coming out of a roundabout at about 25/30 mph - this is my typical experience on my old tyres (Falken Ziex ZE-512 - not bald just worn on the inner edges); on the way back, on the new tyres, the car felt totally planted. It's early days but these new tyres might mean I have to relearn how to drive my Supra! I'll let you know ...
  10. Must be UK (no hole behind number plate). Condition, colour not that important (though silver/white would be good) as will be resprayed anyway. I can collect or arrange courier. Thanks!
  11. Sincere apologies - I certainly didn't ignore your comments; when I said 'nothing' I was obviously exaggerating slightly. I've almost decided upon the Conti. SC3s and managed to find an amazingly good price for these (under £110 each fully fitted for standard rear size). Interested to hear more about the 'Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta'. Never heard of them before starting this thread but they too get rave reviews.
  12. Thanks for your input everybody! I've crossed-off the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 as I've seen some very mixed feedback about this tyre (away from this forum). Also crossed-off the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. In my opinion this is a very good tire (had them before) but I'm not sure it's the best for the Supra. That leaves the Continental Sport Contact 3 and the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. I've heard nothing but good things about the F1 (here and elsewhere) and it seems the obvious choice. However, all the feedback for the Conti. SC3 is also excellent - there's just a lot less of it! I don't think many people have tried this tyre on the Supra (I must admit, I've never even used the brand before on any car). The tread pattern looks quite similar to the old Michelin Pilot SX MXX3 (that was the OEM fitment for the UK Supra - a great tyre but sadly no longer available in the required sizes). I guess it'll come down to what's available now. In the meantime, if anyone has any experience of the Conti. SC3 on the Supra, I'd be interested to hear it.
  13. I totally sympathise. Once you've bought the tyres, you are - of course - committed. That's why I think a forum like this should have a 'sticky' thread for tyres (we do after all for other 'consumables' - oil, etc.). I couldn't find one ... probably why there's so many posts on the subject (back to apologies).
  14. Another poll? I'm not sure the forum could stand it! I will do if there's more demand. Anyway, you make a good point and I do understand that they do have greater extremes of weather (if that's possible) in the US than we do in the UK - hence the 'winter' tyres that can drive in snow, etc. but why not more of the 'all season' tyres? For the record, I did drive my car in the snow last winter and it was - amazingly (surprisingly) - competent. Admittedly my speed never exceeded 20mph and I have a 'SNOW' button (nothing to do with my driving skills or the lack thereof).
  15. Apologies because I bet you're thinking that the last thing this forum needs is another thread on tyres. If you're still reading, I'm in the market for some new rear tyres and - yes - I've done my research and made full use of the search button on the forum. Now, I understand that money is tight and almost everyone is looking for good value in everything they purchase. However, in my opinion 'value' takes on a slightly different meaning when you're talking about tyres for the Supra (not forgetting what this car is or rather what it could be capable of in terms of relative performance). For me, this breaks down to the following factors when looking for tyres for this car (in order of my priority): 'Everyday' handling (most of the time I'm driving on normal roads in both wet and dry conditions - they've got to be 'safe' [predictable/consistent] but also allow the abilities of the car to be exploited) Comfort (ability to absorb minor surface imperfections and road noise) Treadwear (how long the tyres are going to last) Obviously your criteria might be different - fair enough - but when recommending a tyre it would be useful to know what they are. I've found this website (you probably have too): www.tirerack.com A lot of the tyres listed (it's an American site) aren't even available in this country - it seems that the majority of tyres we have here are 'Summer' tyres, rather than the 'Winter' and 'All season' tires they also have available in the US (very strange given that 'British Summer' tyres would probably fall into the last category!). Anyway, here's my question: Would the tyre compounds, etc. be the same in the UK for the same named tyre from the US, does anyone know (tread patterns look the same)? In other words, I'm wondering if the reviews and tests on that site are equally applicable to tyres sold in this country. P.S. I'm wavering between: Continental Sport Contact 3 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (I've been told these are no longer available except in a Porsche fitment?)
  16. Mine's a facelift and the switch came from a pre-facelift car so ... I think the answer's "No, no special switch required". My switch is in the 'standard' position - the right-most slot available. I moved my alarm override switch from here to inside the centre console storage box. All active spoiler wiring was already in place, just had to plug-in (the switch socket was taped back against some other part of the loom, alongside the transmission tunnel - where tour left knee would be), including ECU that has it's own custom slot behind the radio (above something to do with ABS?)
  17. That was the temperature of the air flowing in (as measured by probe stuck in the vent). The cabin temp. would be somewhat higher, obviously, as dictated by the temp. setting. Apologies for any confusion.
  18. Quick recommendation for (surprisingly!) Kwik Fit. Noticed last Friday that even on its coldest setting, the air-con wasn't really cooling anything down to below ambient air temerature (about 24 C). After doing a search on here and running the suggested A/C dignostic check - all clear - and comparing price of DIY (£40 from Halfords) with KwiK Fit's service (also £40 including extract, leak test, lube, refill and money-back guarantee), phoned up my local KwiK Fit yesterday and made an 'appointment' to take it down a couple of hours later. When I got there, someone had 'taken my slot' so slight delay but they offered to do it for half-price. At this stage I was already beginning to think that this was the kind of service I should've expected but, in actual fact, they or rather the automated 'R2D2' that performed the recharge did a fantastic job. The hardest part is knowing where to find the High and Low pressure access valves (respectively: at the front, near the horn/bonnet latch; at the rear, down near the bulkhead on the intake side). The machine knows the rest once the 'operative' had selected the correct model 'Supra' from its menu. Thirty minutes later, A/C air temperature down as low 10 C. Let's just hope this Summer means I will be able to make the most of it.
  19. PM'd about active spoiler switch.
  20. Coffee & TV is one of my favourites. Rich seam here too: TgsbPY1dykE and I just like this one: 51V1VMkuyx0
  21. The Thor VVTi auto. unit was the one I replaced with the SpeedM8 specifically to be rid of the low speed traction control problem ... consequently I've got one of these in a drawer somewhere too!
