  1. Thanks for the offer, but my insurance only pays out if I go through RAC auto windscreens. James.
  2. Heheh. My windscreen cracked while i was in the Trafford Centre. Maybe it wasn't a stone, some scatty manc probably jumped on it Mind you, hammering it over the snake pass probably didn't help the crack James.
  3. £1500 excess! That's quite impressive. Did you send them a signed document promising to crash the car into a bunch of old grannies within the first year? ....or do you live in Moss Side? I don't think that would apply to windscreen damage anyway. As someone said earlier, you'll have a separate excess for that that doesn't affect your NCB. My windscreen is being fitted on Friday. I didn't ask the guy about what make it was, but he did say it had a green sunstrip at the top like mine. James.
  4. It will probably be spliced into the main ECU loom in the passenger footwell. James.
  5. Yeah, mine does the same thing very occasionally. I believe the o/d light indicates a transmission fault, and doesn't speed sensor 1 come off the gear box? In any case, you can tell if that's the problem as the cruise control (if fitted) stops working and the steering becomes very light. James.
  6. Ouch! My insurance documentation says that the max claim for windscreen damage is 500 quid, so I'll have to see whether I get stung for the rest! James.
  7. Okay that's cool. Thanks everyone. And yes, it will be done through the insurance. I would imagine supra windscreens are horrendously expensive. James.
  8. Parked my car up for about three hours yesterday and when I came back to it, I had a crack in the windscreen about 8 inches long! This is the result of a tiny stone chip I got about a week ago that I couldn't even find on the windscreen at the time. So I'll need a new windscreen asap. Never had one replaced before. Do they generally fit proper Toyota parts or might they try to fob me off with a non-Toyota windscreen? (It's RAC autoglass, by the way). Another thing, my drivers side wiper arm cannot be pulled away from the windscreen more than a few inches otherwise it snags on the bonnet. Does anyone else have this problem, or do I have the wrong size wiper arm fitted? Cheers, James. http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~jamesg/crack.jpg edited to say: I just noticed on that pic you can see the paint chip on the bonnet where the wiper arm hits it if lifted up.
  9. I don't use my cruise control very often, but I think it's definitely worth having. For me, the best time to use it is through areas with a temporary speed limit, like roadworks on the A1 where you have about 3 miles of a single narrow lane with cones each side. You can set it to the speed limit then pay attention to the road, rather than having to keep glancing at the speedo. James.
  10. Matt fitted me a Toad Ai606 last year and it hasn't had a single false alarm. In fact, the only time I've heard it is when I set it off on purpose to see what it sounded like James.

    Fuel Cut!

Did the Check Engine light go on at the moment of the cut? If so, then it's almost certainly fuel cut due to the boost pressure. James.
  12. Yeah, t-cut is a bit drastic for the whole car. Definitely try a polish first to see if it works. After trying various polishes, I got some Zymol wax from Halfords a while ago (the light blue one). This gave the best shine I've seen, although I haven't tried Neilsons. James.
  13. Congrats Nick! Hope it goes well for you. Maybe I should have held off buying the Nur Spec (then again, maybe not!) James.
  14. I'd be interested in knowing some prices too. It's something I may consider in the future. James.
  15. You can powerbrake by applying the brake while stationary, set the revs at around 2000rpm, then simultaneously releasing the brake and applying full throttle. Don't do this for longer than you have to as it will boil the brake fluid. Personally, I've only done this a few times as I don't want to break my car. People that do drag racing will be able to advise you better. James.
  16. Probably not for a bit. Will get my car checked out at Thor before getting a switch for true-twin mode plus a few other things at Matt's. James.
  17. I know what you mean, a mate from work was in the passenger seat when I did a (not entirely intentional) powerslide pulling onto a main road. He whacked his head on the roof. Whoops When I went into work this morning I was told that the sound of my new exhaust (Nurspec) stopped a meeting dead when I started the car yesterday lunchtime Sorry, back to the topic... James.
  18. Ben, I don't mean to insult you but.... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha James.
  19. chriswilson.tv What's the significance of the window ledge, by the way? James.

    Jet Fighter

    Total class :D James.
  21. Yep. Mine does exactly the same thing. It's definitely affected by whether you are in Drive or not. If I drive a few miles without stopping, when I come to a stop the revs will be too high. As soon as I change into Neutral, the revs gradually fall to 600-650rpm. I'd be very interested to know what the problem is. James.
  22. As I recall, there's 44 LEDs, with 11 groups of 4 in series. So you'd most likely get groups of 4 out. James.
  23. My RZ had a small silver amp under the passenger seat. As far as I'm aware, they all do. Mine was already bypassed when I bought the car. The connector was disconnected and loads of the wires were barely twisted together. It may also already be bypassed if one of those Autoleads toyota to stereo adapter leads is used to fit a different stereo. James.
  24. Nick, I'll turn up if you bring along your shiny new car James.
