Cheers Jim, Still lots to do, not only fabrication/pipework, but also engine management/fuelling side of things. So I dont know really how long it will be, but the good thing is that I am now not reliant on others and the rest I should be able to do myself. I still have 19 days holliday left so might take a few days off and get going on it. That's if it ever stops raining! Just been looking at the SAFC2 paperwork, cant say that looks like the easiest of things to drive or install either. You going to JAE again this year?
-
Last time I looked it wasn't available for the ge. It's the location of the dizzy on the ge that causes the problems. I believe the kit you are thinking of was for the later engine that didnt use a distributor but coil packs. But, could be wrong.

Yes I might be able to get over. Did I see it was at sixfields? It may not be fitted though, if not I will bring it in the boot so you can see it. Problem is that when it is on I cant fit the air filter until I do loads more fabrication. Depends on how much I can get done on Saturday. My bird is already moaning that I haven't seen her for ages because of the time I spend on the car... blah blah. If it doesn't rain on saturday I may be able to get it back on and then hook up a temporary induction arrangement so I can use it without the charger connected. Will be a few weeks before I get it anywhere like hooked up, I need to do loads before it is ready to connect. But am a huge step closer now and for the rest of the build I will be less reliant on others.

Ta, the inlet port is on the back of the supercharger. In fact the way the outlet manifold is on the photos is unlikely to be how it will end up. "nice to see someone trying something different, what sort of power are you hoping for ?" At the moment the limiting factor for power is the transmision and the fact I intend to use stock compression ratio, won't be running any more than about 7 psi, but who knows for the future:search: __________________

Just got in from a day that started at 5 am, horrid drive back from London but at least it's fitted. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q220/shaneg7ewl/DSCF0156.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q220/shaneg7ewl/DSCF0155.jpg Took it off to drive home but the way we have done it means it is only two bolts to remove the top of the sandwich plate. What do you think?

How much are you looking for and what size are the 2 good tyres mate? Also where in Kent are you? I will be down at the bird's in Medway on the 7th and 8th for the TDF.

Ah, I see you just added a bit after i sent my reply. I thought the same regarding plenty of 440s and fuel rails around, but I read somewhere that the fuel rail from MK4 turbos will not bolt up to a NA inlet manifold.
-
I don't know the answer to that one, maybe you can fit the fuel rail from a mkiii onto side fed ones from Mk4s. I have read that you cant do it the other way round, i.e. 440 side fed from mk4s in place of 330 NA top feds but maybe it works the other way. Don't know, just guessing, anyone?
-
That was my understanding too, cheers Nic.
-
But am I right in thinking the Mkiii are top feed?

I have used WU for quite a few years, sent money to romania on loads of occasions and also received it via WU on several other spots around the world. I have never had a problem and the new generation of forms are even simpler now. But as has already been said, be really carefull with info you put on the form, if something doesn't correspond between sender and receiver , i.e the "control code" or I have heard it is a nightmare. I did try the service over the telephone once and gave up as it was so long winded and decided to walk to one of their many agents in Victoria station. Actually I think Mr Imkembe Mputo may have been waiting outside ready to relieve me of my cash! Not the cheapest of services though.
-
I thought 440s from Mkiv's were not a direct replacement with the NA fuel rail? OK re 550s, thanks for the advice.

Reckon you had the best idea with the TT transplant Jim. Lets hope the noise it makes isn't the noise of meltdown! Hey, looking at the news last night from my air conditioned Parisian hotel room I bet you wished you had a boat, not a car?

I have asked the guy who is helping me with the bracket and extension shaft to keep accurate drawings and photos for anyone else who fancies trying it once I have mine up and running. He says it would be a fraction of the cost I will have paid to make subsequent brackets. Put it this way, he is a proffesional blacksmith/steel fabricator and so far my car has been down to him twice. Tomorrow will be the third and I hope the last time. He is very in demand and I know his dailly rate is around £350. In fairness he is someone we use at work for special projects and because of the work I put his way, he will look after me in terms of price. But I still expect to pay a fair amount when he is done. However, I still wish I had looked a bit harder and found an alternator to fit with a PTO on the back, this would have made it so so much easier. Ahhh hindsight! I am also on the look out for some 440cc injectors from a Mkiii if anyone knows of some going for right price? Bear in mind they have to be cheap enough to pay for re-calibration and still be cheaper than a new set.

We go a bit further up the road to Boulogne and use E'lerclec. Calais Vin is good for some of the better stuff, the manager there is a guy called Jerome and is really helpfull. But for the slurping stuff we always go to E'lerclerc.

Yes, but things change. I am currently working on a supercharger install and have been for some time. I hope by thursday evening I can post a picture of my Eaton M90 installed in place. It won't be connected but should be mounted. I have had to do loads of fabrication to mount it above the exhaust manifold and where the turbos would sit. The Eaton unit is going to be mounted on a special plate which extends out longer than it's snout. At the end of the plate there is a pillow bearing which supports an extension shaft that passes between the dizzy and alternator. Various methods of driving the supercharger were considered, with hindsight, if I could have found an alternator with a PTO at the rear to fit this would have been much easier but I am beyond the point of no return now with the method chosen. Initially I am leaving the compression ratio as stock and will only be running very low boost. There will be a bypass valve incorporated for low revs and this is taken from a ford sc set up. Boost will be determined by pully size initially and at first I am going to use the stock 330 injectors and stock fuel pump, but adding a SAFC2 to tweak fuelling. Once I am happy with the reliability I will look at increased fueling and boost. Is it worth it? No! I have spent loads of cash and loads of time and should have paid Jezz and the boys for a TT lump. But if I can complete it, it will be a first I think. The NA-T site has been an invaluable source of information and inspiration throughout and if it had not been for work commitments I would have had it completed a long time ago. Even if we don't get the bracket mounted tomorrow I will take some pics and post them of the set up so far. The bracket is being made for me at a place in Putney and I have to get the car down there when it is convenient for them as well as me and this has so far been the big delay. Evertime they can fit it in I have to work away, or something happens. But i hope tomorrow will be the day.

Yes mate that would have been me.

LOL, was perfect timing and not planned. I saw a silver one first and then looked left and saw loads and simply couldn't resist gate crashing.

Because of the crap weather I couldn't decide whether to go or not...finally thought as I live so close it was silly not to. So I pulled out of my street onto the A6 and saw a Supra.....and then another whole load of them in convoy. I managed to pull out and get between two others and followed them the rest of the way to pod. Owning a Supra is like waiting for a bus, you can go a hell of a long time without seeing another and then.... I was planning to go an ask at the ticket office as Lui had suggested, to see if there were any passes left but decided as it was raining I would try and blag it. Managed to get into our bit without a pass, but think I had the dirtiest Supra of the day and parked between the two cleanest! Apart from the rain it was a good day and had a quick chat with Lui, which was nice to put a face to the name. Great to see such a good turn out, and well done to those who organised it. Thought the Satin black one looked good, even better than it did in the photos.

The red wire from the gauge goes to switched +12V, the black from the gauge goes to ground, and your white remaining wire from the gauge needs to be conected to the 0 - 1 volt signal output from your sensor. Not knowing the exact sensor you are using, you are going to have to find out which of the four cables is the output. Two of them will be the heater and will have 12 volts across them and I would guess they may well be the white ones, and then one of the others will be earth and the remaining one your sensor output which is connected to your gauge. If you have a multi-meter, or even a small bulb on leads you should be able to quickly determine the sensor heater wires and eliminate them, leaving you with two wires to connect up to your gauge. One will be the earth and when connected up should do nothing on the gauge and the other will be the output you want. As jake says the information shown on the gauge is not accurate by any means and in terms of AFR figures cannot be used. But, what it will tell you is if you are running either lean or rich either side of 14.7 : 1 but you won't know by how much. Good indicator though. Let us know how you get on.

That's the guy I am talking about!

Its got to be worth a try using this method, loads of people on here have done it this way and it's been fine. But in my case it wouldnt budge using the starter. I then tried several air guns at tyre places and still wouldn't budge, I ended making a tool. Chris sz also had simular problems I recall. Got to be worth a try first, but be prepared to find, borrow, make or steal a tool. Sims toyota in Northampton dont even have a tool! They rely soley on the method Doug describes, but even they end up taking the car to a lexus dealer who has the correct tool sometimes. There is a guy on here who will lend you a tool, he does it by post. If you get stuck let me know and I will find his details.

Parked in car park of Tescos in Wellingborough. Guess you were on the way to pod. Looked nice!
