I mean 2 million people signed a petition against road charging and Blair told us not to be so silly, they knew best, and metaphorically patted us on the head with a condescending smile. So, er, no actual democracy here, then? Maybe the guy should have blown up MPs , not normal everday people. Gaz6002
Glad it's not just me who thinks this. The country does seem to be going rapidly downhill. People blame the labour government... I tend to agree. This is the main reason my life plan is to make money in the UK and then drop it for somewhere nice and friendly.

michael
The problem you have is that a postal attack aimed at someone in power will always end up being intercepted by a poor minion just trying to get on with their 9-5 job. I used to work for a company that also had ties to Huntingdon Life Sciences (supplied payroll software I think) and our people were constantly being followed and attacked. This went on for a few years but the moment someone got to our CEO with their threats we stopped the contract. Aim high, aim well or don't aim at all. Alex
where the hell do you live that you have no broadcast signal? far far away!!! If you don't have an aerial or sky/cable feed how would you magic in the signal? You have a TV and so MUST watch broadcast TV isn't actually a lawful argument as it's based on supposition. Ian C
My daughter doesn't have satellite or cable and threw away her tv aerial cable. She rang them when it came to renewing her license and told them she wasn't going to and why. They weren't in the slightest bit bothered - just said "that's fine madam". Yeah but where is the fun in that I've got a satellite dish outside, and aerial up in the loft (I think) and cable. But the dish wire ends in the brick wall and is plastered over where I cut it off, the cable service is internet only, and the aerial socket is now a blanking plate. TV is shit I watch me box sets how and when I want as I'm a control freak or something. So the TV bods will see all that and go "nope, no way is he not watching TV" and get arsey with me. In fact they have. Have you seen the letters they send? Straight in with "Oi - criminal scum - Pay up within 14 days or your case will be passed to the Enforcement Agency. Having a TV and no licence is an offence". Well, up yours mateys, I'm in the right, so bring it on with your threatening letters. Oh, and nothing on the letter about if you have a TV but don't receive broadcasts either. Nice. The followup letter was even better - "We catch 1000 offenders a day" Yes, that's what it says. One thousand a day. What, successful prosecutions? 365000 people dodging the licence a year? Get outta here. I really do hate such bluff and bluster. Oh, and the Enforcement Agency are now on my case and they can call in evenings and weekends as well! Oh noes.
Supragal
Not evenings and weekends!!! Youre just waiting for them to tun up so you can prove them wrong. However, what will happen is they will somehow get you blacklisted, then admit they are wrong but will not bother/be unable to reverse the crap they landed you in. Digsy
The licence is for having equipment that can recieve a signal, not for recieveing a signal or not. thats were they get you If it was as cut and dried as that then they wouldn't have this in the FAQ on their official website: What if I only use a TV to watch videos/DVDs/as a monitor for my games console? Do I still need a licence? http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/image/spacer.gifhttp://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/image/spacer.gifhttp://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/image/grey.gifhttp://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/image/spacer.gifhttp://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/image/spacer.gifYou need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one of our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence. Please write to us including your name, address and the reason you believe that you don't need a licence at: TV Licensing Bristol BS98 1TL More power to Ian's elbow, I say. They need a kick up the arse on this anyway as pretty soon we'll all be paying twice to receive the same programmes. I never watch BBC anyway. What I would do in Ian's position would be to remove all the dishes and aerials and as much cable as I could and then see if the tuners in my TV / VCR / Sky box, etc could be disabled. However I suspect that Ian won't do anything and they'll have to prise the remote from his cold, dead hand What would be really smart is for the TV Licensing people to have a little gizmo that could be attached to the UHF inputs on your equipment and physically sealed (like your main incomin fuse box is). Then, rather than assuming that because you have equipment you must be using them to watch TV, they could check for physical damage to the seals. Plus you could have them removed if you ever felt you had too much money and wanted to piss some of it away paying for stuff you never watch. Animal
I'm with Ian all the way. Calbe for broadband, TV aerial cut off at wall and only watch dvd's on the tv. Apparently my case has been passed to the enforcement division and I should expect a visit. Chances of 'em actually getting in are slim as I'm only in maybe 3 evenings a week, I live in a first floor flat and don't have a doorbell, so there. Ian C
That'd be great if you went by "bloke down pub" but I've actually done my homework first You have to have the ability to watch broadcast TV. I simply haven't. Ergo, no licence required. -Ian
