wkdtime
How would a True 500BHP Supra fair against the new M5? Discuss:)
Tom
Close, wouldnt put 2 car lengths in it either way.
supRo
I thought Torque wasn't great on the M5? I would say a 500 BHP Supra
juanchan
Can't say against a 500bhp Supra, but my stock one was "mildly" spanked by one . I say mildly in that he was merely toying with me and strolled off up the dual carriageway as if he had not a care in the world. Not that I was surprised by it being quicker, but how much quicker did surprise me

TRD3000GT
I raced one down park lane about 6 months ago from a dig at the lights. He had me for the first 100 meters then I started to pull hard and catch up.. I would say he had 2 lengths on me due to traction. We had to stop before I could pass because of traffic lights
wkdtime
How do you think you would have faired had it been from a rolling start?
Wez
I think it would be good fun. How do they compare to Vipers, I have had one of those already
Mike B
How would a True 500BHP Supra fair against the new M5? Discuss:) Sounds like you'll be asking michel for a bigger blower and injectors! I always thought that BMW's power figures were optimistic - and at the fly. Most single supras here are pulling 500+ at the wheels no? - and will be lighter... If you can find some 1/4 mile times that should be a good guide.
Mike B
Just had a look; http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW--M5-Drag-Racing.html 12.1 to 13. that actually very quick!

Yep very, looks like quite low trap speeds for those times? so they seem to be very quick off the mark then start to lose ground a little compared to 12 sec supes, which seem to be slower off the line and make some ground once rolling. rob wild
A mate of mine is a service manager at a BMW dealership and as much as I don’t like BMW I must say the M5 is a great piece of kit. He brought one round a few months back and it was very impressive! Unfortunately my car was still being sorted. I will see if he can get one for err research purposes again and put it against mine on a private test track obviously I wouldn’t bet my house on it but I would be quite confident TBH. No point comparing a car with 500bhp @ the wheels to one with 500bhp @ the fly. Seeing as M5 is 500bhp at the fly then you'd be talking a Supra with similar power. Seeing as M5 is 500bhp at the fly then you'd be talking a Supra with similar power. So a good 550 atw single should kill an M5..... - yet those 1/4 mile times are very impressive.. and it takes an extremely powerful sup to get under 12 secs. Terry got low twelves in my sup, which was around 550 atw at the time... so these M5 seem faster than they look on paper... unusual for BM.. unless those drag times are done on a 1st rate track with specialist tyres and drivers... terminals are not so high... still I'm surprised that they are even close! respect due to the BM camp... never thought I'd see the day! edit - I just checked the pic of the fastest stock car - 12.273 terminal 116.5 - stock rims, but the track looks very sticky.. infact solid rubber! It looks very grippy which probably helps explain the time and low terminal.
Seb
As long as it's a fair fight Driven an M5 and M6 but not a similarly powerful Supe, but in isolation the M5 is very, very fast.
Thorin
Some balls talked in this thread. MonkeyMark has done 11's with stock turbos! It's all down to traction.
Bobbeh
Yeah 550 at the wheels should show 11's or even high 10s providing the traction is there. I think the M5 would be a tough match for a simimlarly powered Supra.. its good for 200mph with enough road. I think the Supra should have it in the mid range due to the gearing, but it would deffo be close.
Lucifer
Speaking from experience of driving the BM, the BM would win hands down due to it having alot More mechanical grip.
Terminator
Those figures are very illuminating, not as quick as I thought. But still damb good for a standard car. The MKIV was not built to get such power to the tarmac, the BM is however.
Wez
Grip is a major problem, I was lighting my rears up in third last night and it was nice and dry, still very twitchy in fourth too.
Steven Cordiner
500hp supra versus 500hp M5 ... providing the supra has some form of traction control (other than the awful standard system) my money's on the supra any day of the week! Physics .. M5 weighs About 1850kgs, Supra weighs about 1600kgs. Torque = acceleration, HP = top speed (in the simplest of forms) Torque, standard M5 384lbs, standard supra 315lbs (500hp one should have much more than this). So, supra has same HP, weighs less and has more torque.
JamieP
Terry got low twelves in my sup, which was around 550 atw I seem to rember Terry saying that car was 550 atf not wheels? Have you had more done to it?
Sheefa
What's even better, or not so, is the new M5 Estate. The quickest estate ever apparently and only 0.1 of a second slower than the original monster! Looks a demon. Would happily trade the supe in for that.
