ahaa, so theres a chance these wont fit the UK spec lights as they have different innards?

Can you buy just the clear lens or do you have to buy the whole lot together?

JB

Yes I guess the won't fit the UK lights as they have a different lens fitment.

You can only buy the whole kit.

Hi Jon

I doubt Ab Flug will have English instructions, if you send me a scan of the instructions I'll try to get them translated for you.

cheers

Hi Nic, how did you get on? :)

after fiddling with them, it looks like the Abflug insert part fits over the existing one, and the j-spec lens needs the whole centre part cut away so it just leaves the edging that the Abflug lens bonds to.

is that sounding right so far? :)

Those headlights look the nuts :)

Im currently looking into replacement lenses for the J-Spec headlights, aiming for an alternative lens that doesnt yellow.

A friend of a friend has a company that creates plastic products for motorsport. He thinks it would be possible to replicate the lenses with the beam scatter pattern so they'd be MOT friendly, but talks are at an early stage...and I've yet to source a battered pair of headlights on ebay for prototyping :)

Having read peoples comments on the possbility of CF inners for the headlights (and rears too), I may (once I've got my hands on a set of spare lights) look at the likelihood of being able to produce them (vac formed and autoclaved for 'bling' appearance).

Yes this seems right from the pics on the instructions. It'll probably take a few days to get the instructions translated, I'll send over as soon as they are done.

That'd be a waste of some nice UK spec lights. Why not swap the UKs with somebody elses yellow old j-specs and say £100 your way? It'd help fund the AbFlug conversion too.

Hi Jon

The lenses are not available separately, but I'm sure if you bought a set you would be able to sell on the inner parts on one of your refurbs (I pressume they fit with the standard lenses).

Would you be able to take some step by step photos for me of the install if possible? I have a few of the Aussie guys interested in them, but they wanted to see what was involved in installing them.

cheers

I noticed these new headlights from Ab-Flug the other day. It looks like they have a clear, unlined lens and different inner design, I'm not sure if they are complete replacement headlights or just the parts to modify the stock headlights.

Can someone buy some from me please, so I can find out :)

so has anyone got this installed on their car yet? any feedback?

AbFlug seem to offer the service of putting the clear lense on the stock light, but they don't seem to sell it as a kit on their website.

They do sell the kit I have supplied a few sets now.

Edit: Oh you mean just the lens, no they don't sell separately.

Sorry, a Yank here and I don't want to intrude on your board, but Nic helped me get one of these kits a while back and they are finally assembled, so I figured I would post some pics of how they turned out. The kit itself includes new inner housings and clear lenses as Nic posted previously:

http://www.fuindustries.com/supra/Ab-Flug_Headlights_Kit/AB-Flug_Headlights_003.JPG

I chose not to use the lenses as gzaerojon did on JamieP's car since they need to be retrofitted into your current lense frame, i.e. cutting the center of your lense out and reusing the outer edge that has a lip on it which fits into the headlight housing itself. Then the new lense would have to be attached to the old edge and outlined with paint to hide the line where the new and old lense meet. This seemed dicey to me for a minimal improvement over the 97-98 lenses (or facelift as I believe you refer to them), so I skipped that step, for now at least.

So, basically I only used the inner housing portions of the headlight "upgrade" which are installed over the existing inner housings of the headlights. I had the inner housings painted DuPont Jet Black to match my car and had a member on the US SupraForums install them while he was doing an FX HID retrofit to a set of 97-98s (facelift) for me. Here's how the lights looked in the retrofit process:

Here's how they looked once they were complete and I got them back:

http://www.fuindustries.com/supra/HID_Retrofit/MKIV-Ab_Flug_HIDs-0006.JPG

The retrofitter painted the rings around the projectors in black, as well as the high beam reflectors which are now inoperative since the retrofit was to a bi-xenon projector in the low beam location.

Here's how the new housing looks next to an old, slightly yellowed 97-98 (facelift) light I have:

http://www.fuindustries.com/supra/HID_Retrofit/MKIV-Ab_Flug_HIDs-0007.JPG

And next to a Euro headlight with the inner housing painted black:

And next to a 93-96 US-spec headlight badly in need of a refurb:

Here's how the lights looked installed on the retrofitter's car as mine is not on the road at the moment:

And finally, how the inner housings affect the look of the car at night with the HID retrofit:

http://www.fuindustries.com/supra/HID_Retrofit/MKIV-HID_Retrofit-004.jpg

All in all, I am happy with how they turned out. The kit itself is way over-priced and not exactly user-friendly to install. Anyway, I thought I would share my experience as there seems to be a limited number of people who have acquired and installed this kit. Much thanks to Nic as well in helping make it happen! Hope that helps.

Chris
