In his defence there had been a rather significant development in his life the week prior that I think was only just sinking in.

Frustrating to go through the rigmarole of a full sale process, but he was a nice chap and don't think he ever intended to mess anyone around.

I've had a couple more enquiries but a lot of people want to part ex, or simply cannot afford the car. It irks me when people start making offers well below what a car's worth before they've even asked any questions or arranged a call to discuss, let alone arranged a viewing.

With lockdown limiting people's movement I know I'll just have to be patient. It's getting plenty of interest.

There's no limit now, go anywhere you like as long as its in England

People making low offers is just how it is, easy to do when your not face to face.

I was offered £1200 for my E46 a few days ago, i just read delete and ignore them.

Had similar with my M3, had it advertised at 22k or so, kept getting offers of 15k from a guy called Shaz Munir.. Literally every day

Yes it's just part and parcel of selling a car privately in the modern world.

I don't mind someone opening a discussion by telling me they're budget cant quite stretch, to see if there is a potential deal to be done, as it saves wasting anyone's time. I've had a few like that but they've fallen too far short.

I had one guy message me three times offering £24k, then £23k, then £22k. Again, without asking a single question about the car.

My mechanic was telling me about some guy who called him up about his C63. At least that guy asked some informed questions, though when he gave his offer it was 'I was thinking £7k - how does that sound?'. The car was advertised at £21k which was market rate. The enquirer told him that was what he could pick them up for at auction. I won't sully the forum with the response, but I am sure you can imagine how it went... :D

I always wonder....are there sellers who actually engage with people like this and encourage this behaviour?

One reason I haven't messaged I've got a good budget but wouldn't be able to stretch to your price or anything above 25k which I why I haven't entertained it. Seen the car in ebay again and checked the forum glad it's a forum car.

Glws If my budget increases and its still for sale may be interested but feel free to message. I'm in no rush to buy and being picky I just also cant decided what route to take

Thanks for your interest in the car and for your openness. By way of return I'll message you to let you know where you stand and what amount would secure the car.

If things change and you can stretch you budget a bit let me know.

Would be good for the car to go to another forum member. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Car is now sold. New buyer collected her on Friday.

I'll share the sale price as sure it will be of interest to the community...

Car sold for £28,500, £250 less than full ask. The buyer also took a set of fully refurbished UK-spec brake calipers that I had in the garage for an additional £500.

He was impressed with the condition and very excited to finally own his dream car. A really nice guy who I am sure will enjoy and look after her. It really was a lovely example.

Goes to show that if your car is a good one, patience will be rewarded. Don't entertain the chancers or accept less than your car is worth.

Thanks to all of you that took an interest in the sale and for your supportive comments. I still have my MR2 Turbo, so will wander over and say hello when (hopefully) the JDM car shows resume next year. :)
