IamLukeMachin
OK looking into buying a Supra. My luck is not on my side right now. One I am looking at I have just been told "The gearbox engages with a jolt when cold but operates fine" This is on a N/A Auto, (my first Supra so start with a NA) So yeah should I be worried about the above? Steer clear? Easy Fix? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced. Regards luke
ripped_fear
Personally with the price of NA auto's being so low I would stay clear and find another one. Unless the one you are looking at is ridiculously cheap then you could budget for worst case senario of a new box.
listy
Dont know anything about auto boxes if I'm honest, but engaging with a jolt? Sounds like its on the way out to me. Cant be good.
Benjy
Save up, buy a TT. You'll only spend more money doing a conversion. Trust me.

David P
Maybe the line pressure control cable is adjusted up too tight?

IamLukeMachin
Ive had a couple of PMs saying that it could be dirty fluid, but until the box is looked out its impossible to tell, then that could lead to finding the box is knackered! What a ball ache
Benjy
Got to be worth knocking some money off as danger money. See what the lowest he'll go is, get the box looked at, if it needs one, I'm sure you'll find one on here.
straightsix
Maybe the line pressure control cable is adjusted up too tight? Agreed. Some folk adjust the line pressure control cable to make the box think it already has a load on it.

Nic
It may just need a gearbox flush/oil change or it could need a new gearbox, impossible to say. It's a buyers market so if the owner wants to sell their car it'd be in their interest to change the gearbox oil and see if that cures the problem. If they're not prepared to do that then I'd look elsewhere.
Alex
Mine engages with a jolt and I'm sure it's uprated line pressures that are the cause. Does it shift aggressively too?
