As I said, it's entirely possible that I had a bad batch. Or the tune was bad, in some unforeseeable way. Or I screwed up somehow while running the engine in.

But in my experience, I was not satisfied with durability of the pistons that were used and will not use the brand again.

Not to throw the cat among the pigeons here, boys... but my car went through 2 sets of CP pistons during its *run-in* period. That is, melted 2 separate sets of pistons over 2 separate break-in periods for the engine. No problems with the tune, and the run-in was pretty gentle (especially the second time) to avoid any "user" error. Pistons were even sent off for analysis to CP, who of course said there was nothing wrong with their product.

Now, the final set of pistons (now in the engine) were ceramic coated (and I'm not even sure if they're CP) and the VVTi was locked to avoid any potential confounding factors from that aspect, and car is running strong. But I will never again put CP pistons in any engine build I do.

Plenty of 6 second cars in the states running CP's, I take them over any other make any day.

Just a bit confused , how the injector would cause the piston to melt, what are the implications of having an injector 10% out? what issues can arise? I presume the injector cycle is set by the mapper?

The injector didnt cause the piston to melt, it was the lack of fuel ;)

If the injector flows are out by 10% and the correction values are not updated on the ECU then you could be 10% down on fuel for that cylinder.

Wish I didnt know that could cause such catostrophic damage

Is it possible to monitor things like this, Lack of fuel/injector. Would this have to happen over a long period of time?

Yes, for example the Syvecs ECU can monitor knock per cylinder out of the box ;)

You could also monitor EGT and AFR per cylinder but it all starts getting very expensive and not really worthwhile, on a very very expensive race car engine fair enough.

In short if you are putting $$ into a Single invest in Ryan G and a Syvecs ECU to ensure it stays healthy

I see she is running Siemens 850cc injectors (fully flow balanced); is it common to have an injector fail

Sorry for all the Q's just interested as I plan to go single, the old age question of OEM vs Built Engines

yes it has the siemens 850cc injectors i spoke to earnie the other day and he said he had them cleaned and checked when the last engine died but they are a little old now as they were already on the car when he purchased it.

so out with the old and in with the new plus a syvecs ;)

Small update:

Cylinder head all built up ready to be installed now. Complete pain in the backside due to the valve seats having to be machined so it threw all of the valve clearances out. Normally this isn't an issue with the standard bucket/shim but because this head already has shimless buckets there isn't a huge size range available. Its all done now anyway.
