Tax Discs

Following on from the other thread.

 

Haven't we got to that technological age where displaying a tax disc in your window is more of an outdated expense to the DVLA that necessary? In the hards times we're in, it could save a few pennies doing away with the paper copy.

 

I'm struggling to think of a good reason why they should remain? The only time my tax has ever been checked is when I've been pulled over and by that time the Police have already done a full background check.

 

Pay your tax and your car is recorded as having tax on the big system.

 

Any thoughts?

'Tis hard to make out the road through all the paper sometimes innit!

Couldnt care less, its not that hard to change the disc, nor have i got to the stage where i think a tax disc ruins my cars look.

Good point Matt, but them folks paying £400 road tax a year want to see some paper!

 

If they print out tax discs then they say it cost them £50 each to do inc admin costs.

 

I personally think we should have a system where every car has a barcode. You scan the bar code & it tells you all the information, i.e when the tax runs out, MOT & all the rest. You get an e-mail in advanced to let you know when things are expiring etc. If you think this bar code way is silly, then let me tell you most phones nowadays have bar code readers.

 

Just need a system to update this information... oh now I see where I've gone wrong, the DVLA would say, (like the NHS) we would need £500,000,000,000 to incorporate this new system, when the actual fact is I could most likely build a database & set it up for 10% of their cost within 6 months (and yes it would work).

I have a black alloy tax disc holder with "Supra GZ Aerotop" ingraved on the back and I like it so I'm not bothered.

I don't know why we ever had to display it, you never had to display proof of MOT or Insurance even before it was all computerized, so why tax?

Unless you're one of those people who was foolish enough to buy one of the first run "limited edition" engraved, no really, it may look like a sticker and rub off like a sticker but its laser etched honestly tax disc holders that require you to eff around with tiny little grub screws upside underneath the glass and right above the air vent type thing.

and our tax is a type of sodomy . 365 euros every 3 months. I don't know what it is for a full year, there is a slight discount alright to pay yearly.

Definitely not, I have only just got the press plates right and the ink perfected. Will take me another 6 months to turn a decent profit.

LOL i got me a standard post office jobbie, its there for legal reasons and does not need styling imo, like numberplates.
