I hate to say this but if they cut the camber adjustment bolts up they are ludicrously expensive :( Can't recall how much but I think it's in the region of £50 each :scare:

 

There not that expensive, i'll have to dig my invoice out and have a look.

u say its easy to split the bushes, but if they have already undone some and this happened they should of told me right? :sos:

Additional HP puts additional strain on all aspects of the car. you should know this, being an expert and all :rolleyes:

 

As im well aware but a geo isnt just for single turbo powered cars mr know it all :rolleyes:

 

Next you will be telling me that a bpu doesnt have enough power to effect such things...

To be fair I think stiffer suspension, narrower sidewalls, and more potholes than your average airless orbital body contribute a lot more to alignment drift woes. The maximum power one can put down at the rear wheels is limited by the grip of the tyres, I imagine there are a few orders of magnitude between the force required to unstick them and the force required to shift incredibly tight alignment bolts :)

There are four of these bolts, one on each corner. Not necessarily all of them will be problematic.

 

If they split the bushes you have to replace them with whole new components, i.e. a new wishbone. Try not to think about this happening :taped: And no, they won't have to shell out for breaking them, because they are old and worn and part of the inherent risks of working on a car etc. Sorry it's all a bit doom and gloom :(

The most expensive camber adjuster bolt on my list is £10.49 + the nut and washer.

 

Unless they had a good look they my not have noticed tearing the rubber in the bushes, i only know mine split as i was under the ramp hanging onto a breaker bar and could see it happening.

There are four just on the front wishbones ;) there are also eccentric adjusters on the rear wishbone for adjusting the camber and for adjusting the rear track

I may be remembering wrong. I apologise for any unneccesary pants-soiling my wild estimates caused :)

Hang on do you mean there are 8 altogether or only the fronts have them? Surely the former :)

 

I'm at the end of a 12hr shift and I've had two major outages, forgive me my brain is fried. now sod off you're making me look bad :p

sorry i didnt mean i expect them to pay for breakage, i ment if it brakes they have to inform me they cant just hide it and put it back together?

 

may sound a little stupid but ive lost all faith in the motor industy and being bent over!

I love my car. I've had every alignment adjuster loose on mine. They opened like they were just torqued yesterday. It barely got it's wheels wet in the UK before it came to Ireland you see. It was the same with the brake swap, an hour's work each end.

 

Sorry, I know this is of no importance to anyone but me.

 

Just thought I'd gloat a little.:D

There are four on the front lower wishbones (2 each side) and 2 on the rear lower arms (1 each side) also 2 on the rear track control arms (1 each side )

yes they will need to be cut off and the rest of the bolt pressed out the arms, ive done 4 supra's in the last 6 months and had to cut them all off, its alot easier with the subframe removed (hours job) then another 2 hours cutting the heads off the bolts using an angle grinder with a very thin blade, then find a good press and press the bolt out job done.

If any 1 wanted this service done then we have all the tools + a nice warm unit to work in, i also have all the part numbers foir new bolts and nuts if needed.

I would NEVER take a Supra to a main dealer unless it was a mint stock car and I wanted original parts and to maintain a Toyota service history

 

You will see the final bill climb well beyond £300 IMO, it is easily done at a £95 per hour rate (especially when they then add VAT!!)

 

Sorry to here this though, I have always used Elite in Rainham, they are specialists in this field as are Wheels In Motion etc, if they come across an issue they also ask before continuing to rack up the invoice cost

 

The other issues is that a VW dealer is unlikly to have parts to hand and replacments will be via a 3rd party and expensive

 

Lessons learnt and all that is all you can put this down to, hope you are happy with it when it comes back anyway :)

plus vat?! o dear! im not sure it was because this morn when i dropped the car off she said the most it would be is £212 and friday when they started i payed £60 so she then said i would then owe *looks for calculator*...........£152 so was no mention of VAT?

 

no where else round here could do 4 wheel lazer :(
