steering wheel

Once I had sourced the components, it took about 10 mins to assemble and fit :)

Tiptronic Wheel from Keron.

MR2 wheel and airbag from ebay. (only wanted the airbag)

TRD horn button from ebay. (Japan)

I needed the Tiptronic buttoned wheel to control the Suprastick VV4 gear changer, this wheel has 4 wires that plug into the revolving column contacts. (live in, earth, upchange signal and downchange signal) My original wheel had only 1 wire for the horn. Fortunately, there were 4 revolving column contacts in the loom, 3 of these appear to serve no purpose with my base spec model Supra and will be utilised to connect to the SSV4 ECU. 2 of the 3 other wires however, were in the wrong holes, but using a watch makers screwdriver, simply popped out and then clicked back into holes that match up. With that done, the wheel then went straight on as normal, and the Airbag was a compatible fit. I then stuck my thumb nail behind the badge on the TRD horn button, ran it round until it eased off, and stuck it on with some black silicone adhesive. Again, this was the perfect size to fit.

To fit this without the buttons would be a 2 minute job.

Hi there ,

Well they take approx 30-40 man hours and my usual rate is £20 per hour but i couldnt charge that and thats not including the cost of the soft matt black porsche nappa leather or the Genuine TRD horn assembley from Japan and hand made brushed alloy surround with allen bolts this all costs around £100 in parts alone .

So ill do a special deal i charged the chap who had that one done £500 if 5 people would like one of these Better than Origanal imo, full leather non airbag TRD replica wheel then i will do them for £450 each

Cant say fairer than that it was my Best modified wheel to date and thank you for nice words thanks Vinny GIBSON TRIMMING SUPRA SPECIALISTS

Could be interested in that. Definitely no scope for airbags though?

Why does the link go to a post by Nizam who claims it was done by VIN trimming?

I'm a little confused...

The only problem is you would have to supply the wheel with the air bag alredy installed and you wouldnt be able to have the bagde and alloy surround fitted for you would be wearing it if the thing goes off ,

You would have to have a seam in the leather where the air bag breaks out of and you possibley could have an emboided logo on the leather instead which looks quite nice and authentic as origanal,

I already have the TRD logo set up in our archieve .

Hope this has been of some help,

PS in the meen time i will try and source a repitable air bag unit that may be suited for this application but will say now that i would say the air bag alone will be pricey.

As the man says. TRD with airbag, new, around £900 from Nic.

They use to be a bit cheaper than that, unfortunately TRD have now discontinued all the steering wheel models.

They have been trading for $3k + That's for people not as fortunate as us. :)

If there is enough interest, in the New Year I'll try to find an alternative airbag steering wheel.
