As someone who enjoys the forum but isn't 'in with it' as much as I need to be to keep track of all the things I'm interested in - I think it's a great idea.

There are a lot of people who have their finger on mkivsupra.net's pulse and know anything and everything going on that's interesting, and have no need for a magazine. While I try and read as many threads as possible, I just don't have the time or patience to filter out the chuff and get to the stuff I want to read.

If someone else does the filtering for me and presents me with a shiny magazine I can just pick up and read every now and then, I'll be their best friend forever.

This forum is a great pot of knowledge when you can trawl through it to get to what you need and is a great medium for chatting about the cars we all love, but if you're not in the groove of it, you miss out and don't receive all the value it can offer.

If there is another medium for delivering some of that value, why not go for it?

Obviously not everyone will be interested or think it worthwhile and that's fine. I think there will be enough people interested to make it a success - be it as an 'annual' or more frequent publication.

Apologies for the ramble... do it :)

I've been championing the idea of a club magazine with some of the mods (you know who you are! :D).

I think we could produce something fairly respectable, mainly for the following reasons:

  • The talent of photographers we have on the site (e.g. Tom, Lui)
  • The quality and humour in certain member's writing (e.g. Michael, Red M, Matt H)
  • The photogenic cars people have built (e.g. Supradibbs)
  • The photogenic driving some members like to partake in (e.g. Jamie P)

The build threads we've seen over the past year have also been incredible, in both pictoral and technical aspects.

The club events make the ideal content for major features, and we've got members competiting in 3 different kinds of motorsport that spring directly to mind.

Members could add blogs about trips they've been on, and it would give the newer members a way to familiarise themselves with the club and its members without feeling like they have to become 'accepted' as a poster on the site first.

We've such a wealth of experience on here, I think it would be good to have something we can be proud of as a club.

What do people think? What objections do people have?

I've added a poll with a few options/ideas, vote for as many as you like. It's just to get an idea of demand or lack of... I can add more options as they are suggested.

I'd be happy to get involved in my own time to help pull it all together, I have some professional experience at this sort of thing.

I personally think that whilst the whole thing is a nice idea, it won't work in reality.People won't have the time and if you publish the mags you have all the risk and costs associated with it.

I think Martini's idea is a sensible one:

I think even a yearly 'MKIV Annual" would be a great idea. A SupraPod special, photos from the meets all around the country, including information of where people went, the roads they took etc etc... I can see it being quite nice :)

I think whoever is doing it needs to understand these things take a lot of your own personal time and if you have a remotely demanding job your enthusiasm for it has to be a million percent with very little gratitude.

Thats the problem imo.

Will there be an option to opt out of having forum content you've posted included in the magazine or is it taken that anything posted here is the the property of the club and can be used in any way it sees fit?

I suspect you have no 'right' to what you write on here anyway Michael. Your posting on a public forum which is owned by someone other than yourself. Good luck enforcing any copyright :)

i like this idea.

its a bit like porn. i have all the porn i have ever needed in front of me on this screen yet still get more enjoyment out of a regular porn magazine. i dont know what it is but i find things are more enjoyable in a hand held publication rather then being viewed on a screen.

You think Michaels word and Matt H generally can be compared to porn? :D

We could easily achieve a digital one using a CMS linked to the forum. Whilst you're at it you could then be responsible for keeping the forum home page up-to-date with useful and entertaining (

Would this be a good starting point to see if you can get the right contributors and content to make a paper magazine viable?

That's a good idea... which CMS could we use? I don't mind making a start on that. It would be nice to have a contemporary greeting page with up-to-date information.
