right the garage have come back to me saying the following:

'hi, we havent looked properly at the car yet but it looks like youll need a new radiator, ill get you a quote then call you back'

there is 2 problems with what he said there:

1. he hasn't even looked yet he is already saying its more than likely the radiator.

2. he is getting me a quote before even fully knowing if thats what needs doing.

seems to me there pulling a fast one and trying to replace a crack pipe/hose and give me a radiator charge, surely if it was faulty radiator it would have been spewing out????

Just tell your garage you want it pressure tested and the coolant checked for combustion gasses, quite simple to do and should be the 1st thing to do after fitting new rad cap and thermostat, diving in changing the rad is not the route to go.

If they cant do the above or wont take your car somewhere else !

cheers ill ring him up on my break and see if they can sort that out instead. its nitro performance in chesterfield aswell, meant to be the best with high performance cars, but guess they all say that. there not going to advertise 'we dont no what where doing' :D

you dont need a specialist to do the checks required, my local village garage can do all this :)

Is the car still ok to drive though? dont want to cause more damage moving it from garage to garage :(

I wouldnt drive it anywhere as you already know its losing coolant from somewhere so just get on the phone and ask if there doing a pressure test and a gas contamination test.

UPDATE:

The garage is adoment that they cant do the tests above as the radiator has a big whole in it? how long does it take for a radiator to go as im hoping i can claim on the warranty if it was faulty when i bought it?

You didnt mention it had a hole in it, if thats the case then yes the pressure check and gas contamination check cant be done till thats fixed.

New rad is approx £373 inc vat from Toyota
