Seb
Just had a knock on the door, so was naturally not too keen to open it considering how late it is. Turned out to be one of my neighbours with a package for me (Rock Band instruments!) which had been delivered today while I was out and he'd signed for it on my behalf. I thanked him and then he says 'Can you do me a favour?' Turns out he wanted me to 'lend' him £10 so he could buy dinner. Now, I live in a council building and our council has recently taken to housing homeless people in the building. All well and good and for the most part they don't cause trouble and keep themselves to themselves but when one of them, who you've never met before and never spoken to asks to borrow money, is it just me or is that a bit out of order? I apologised said that I didn't have any cash to lend him though he didn't seem convinced but he went on his way. What would you have done? Robert
I would have given it to him, im getting the feeling that next time something is delivered and he signs for it, you won't get it
jamesmark
100% No! Be polite and decline.
Seb
Thing is, there are 20 flats in the building so there's a 1 in 19 chance he'll sign for it. I wager that the postie rang the buzzer of the flats nearest the ground floor as he didn't want to carry an admittedly big box all over the buulding, and they happened to be in. Homer
Nope, I'd not lend it either. Cheeky fecker for asking in the first place. Anyone desperate enough to try and borrow from someone they don't know is not likely to pay it back... We have one like that round here, he's done the same to most of the neighbours and has never paid anyone back. He's a junky and an alcoholic and 'rather' well known the police The bloke next door knocked him out a few weeks back - he was slaging the bloke off to his misses not realising the 6ft 5 ex-hells angel stood behind him He also nicked my wallat once (long story), he later got a broken nose for his trouble. Shadow Beast
bit of a strange one, i know both my neighbours really well but i would not ask them for money for dinner, however........ if they are homeless and short of a few quid to get a bite to eat, then its up to you, how about instead of giving money (maybe used for drugs or alcahol) order him a pizza and have it delivered to him, just a gesture of good will, wont cost you a tenner perfect pizza are doing buy one get one free for £6.99!! plus you get dinner aswell!! richie

Carl_S
well done seb for saying no. It was the neibourly thing to do. You prob feel bad about lying, cos you had the money. He is has some cheek. He obviously thought he was in your good books, and so asked. Next time he asked you could say "I don't lend money to people I dont know" or even " I don't even lend money to my friends, so I don't think I'm going to give you any". If you feel threated by him, call the police.

and1c
I would lend the checky sod a knuckle sandwich lol I agree with not lending him anything. Thats blatently taking the p*ss and it sounds like he thought he could make something out of signing for your parcel.. I would bet a pound to a penny he's a smackhead.... Got plenty round here (not in my area as they cant afford it luckily but the city per se) and £10 is just the right amount for them to go and score..... marc_p
Luckily I don't really have neighbors, there are a few houses scattered about in our little area but thankfully they are all very nice people *waits for chav's who have just won the lottery to move into area* But regarding your circumstances, if you lend him money once, chances are that he'll be back to try and borrow more. tooquicktostop
May sound a bit harsh but when I look at the tax that comes out of my salary every month that goes in part to pay to put a roof over the 'homeless' that you talk about in your block, along with the ever increasing price on everything and the fact that you would no doubt pass the same said neighbour on your way to work in the morning while he sits at home and watches Jeremy Kyle I would have declined the £10 also Good grief I must have got out of the wrong side this morning
Charlotte
I would probably say yes because I can't really say no to people - however clearly this is wrong because he'd come back again and again. I suspect it was for something a little harder than 'dinner' though.

Amazed someone who lives in your postcode needs a tenner from a neighbour though!
Seb
Nice to see it's not just me that felt it was a bit out of order. I like the way he asked for exactly £10 - you can eat for a lot cheaper than that! As for moving, that's been on the cards for a little while, just hope I can make it come together.
