Airflow sensor? On a 1994 Jap spec? Shorely shome mishtake? Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

Indeed. As a trader, and in general respect for other traders I usually log any indifferences with a simple 'I disagree' but the fact that someone is bolting together big twin conversions and coming up with quotes like the above simply horrifies me. If the quotes are true then the level of incompetance shown is staggering. Tell me this is a wind-up? Regards, Nathan TDI PLC PS. FWIW, when it comes to BOV's I tend to think along the lines of 'why not use one'. Big twins or singles at 1.4bar+ shift massive amounts of air and not sending the excess anywhere when shutting the throttle puts HUGE loads on the turbos, pipework and throttle butterfly. If the only gripe with them is noise then personally I'd put up with that (and did) and revel in the knowledege that I'm doing my bit for longevity.

Do some searches on past threads regarding this and you'll find that the Mk4 speedo is about as good as they get on the actual/indicated mph scale (when used with stock wheels/tyres) I personally reckon you were about 5mph short of the limit. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC
-
Yes, at 155 genuine mph. You probably weren't far off it. However, removing the TRAC fuse not only disables the 155 limit but also renders the traction control inoperable which is no bad thing IMO. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

Yep. We had a car here that was doing exactly what Darren describes. We ripped off all the crap that had been fitted and used an HKS de-limiter. Car is now perfect. HOWEVER, We have another tiptronic here at the moment (big single- mmmm) which again the customer complained of not shifting up into 4th when on WOT @ 150mph and although we've fitted an HKS unit to this one it's still playing up. So, we suspect either the speedo convertor or something else is still amiss. So, in short, I'm not saying Pete has done anything wrong at all, it may just be that something else on the car is making his SLD play up. Bottom line is that it's deffo the SLD/speedo conversion. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

The problem is 100% whoever the fool was who did the speed delimit. This is exactly what the VVT-i's do if the wrong de-limiter is fitted or fitted incorrectly. I can offer you a correct de-limiter for self-fitment, or we can also fit it for you if required. PM me for prices if interested. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

I agree, I have seen manky Tein shocks on several cars too, and I'm not disputing that, but relative to the amount of Teins that are being fitted my opinion is that the ratio of faliures does not mean that the actual product is bad in any way. Indeed, it's certainly fair to say that we end up with a lot of crap cars that Japan doesn't want and it's not surprising that those cars will be fitted with parts that are well past their best. In fact, now I come to think of it, the cars that I did find dodgy Teins fitted to were indeed pretty nasty cars. Both HKS and Tein do offer kits specifically for drifting. Maybe that is what you have come accross. On the contrary, what with my rather large past experience of Konis and the fact that you yourself has had to have them 'specially' re-valved to suit the Supra suggests to me that they are not the best item around. Then again the out-of-the-crate Konis are dirt cheap (like, 400 quid?) so I guess you get what you pay for. I 'spose we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one chap. Cheers, Nathan TDI PLC

Another strong statement I feel there Chris... So thats both HKS AND Tein which are crap now? I think some context needs to be input here.....Tein alone sell 1000 EDFC's (electronic in-car damping control units) per month. The ratio of EDFC's to actual suspension kits is very low so reckon on a good few more thousand suspension kits. Those sort of numbers are not possible if the product is poor. You could of course say that the Japs don't know any better yada yada.... With the sheer number of Teins being sold is it not possible that you are bound to come accross a few that are in need of replacement? Maybe, maybe not, but I tend to look at things fairly objectively. Personally I think Tein know a thing or two about suspension and my experiences with their kits have been all good. Certainly better than the el cheapo Koni garbage I have seen and used from their road application catalogue (and unfortunately had to sell for many years) for sure. For the record, that doesn't include anything that comes out of Konis motorsport dept. which is certainly good stuff. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

Full schematics and comprehensive instructions are supplied with all our kits If 400bhp gets stuck I'll have a dig through them for you. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

It's all a bit risky IMO. It might well work but then again it might not. Personally I'm still not convinced that all the Jap turbos are interchangeable although a few people have said they are. Just never really gone there personally. We can't afford to. We just have to use what we know will work otherwise someone loses a lot of money. Simple as that. Ian- LOL. Nothing wrong with my patter chap. I live in middle-class Billericay dontchaknow. Never lived anywhere near the East End. Nope. Not me. Nathan TDI PLC

Paul, We're not trying to be doom and gloom at all chap, and I think you've got the 'spark' thing wrong. The point of the relay is that on the stock car the pump only runs when the engine is running. With your 12v mod, the pump is running all the time, whether the engine is or not. So, in the event of a nasty stack, you will be pumping fuel until a: the fuel tank is empty or b: you can turn the ignition off (not the first thing on your mind if you are unconscious). A situation not to be taken lightly IMO but if you call that doom-mongering then so be it. For the sake of a 6 quid relay and 10 more minutes the issue is dealt with. Cheers, Nathan TDI PLC

Could a blocked charcoal cannister cause the car to run rich?

  Say no more! -
LOL! Yes, just like that.... I've seen several Lancer EVO ones now but never seen a Mk4 one. Were your pics from a Mk3? Cheers Nathan. TDI PLC
-
Richard, Yep, thats what 400bhp said I believe...... The Walbro pumps draw 10A @ 4.5 bar, which is slightly less than the stock Jap pump. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC

So the word 'diagnosis' doesn't mean anything to this dealer then.... Just about every sensor (including the MAF) can be checked on the bench. Swopping out gear is a horrendously expensive process... Regards, Nathan TDI PLC -
Agreed. Venting the stock valve to atmo on a UK spec will make it run like a bag of poo. If you do want to vent to air fit a decent valve that won't open on idle or cruise, like an HKS SQV. Regards, Nathan TDI PLC
-
Agreed. In fact, I think it's a pointless exercise on any car IMO, and if gains are seen then the system had faults to start with. We DO convert to 12v when we use uprated pumps but then thats only because any decent pump needs 12v to actually run. In addition, if anyone really does want to carry out a 12v mod then I advise you to run a relay as well. Most 12v conversions make the pump live all the time the ignition is on, not ideal if you're upside down wedged in your car after a smash with fuel being dowsed over you and the car at 3 bar..... Keith, I'm 99.99pc sure that all the Mk4 coolers are the same. Not much help though is it really....? Nathan TDI PLC

Martin: Thanks, will have a dig around those links. Terry: You're a gent. I won't forget that offer, although I have got one on order which should be here in a week or so anyway. I'll be in touch if I get stuck. Adam: Great, will have a good look there too. Thanks guys Nathan TDI PLC

Chaps, Not often I ask you guys for help but I was wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of a voltage v A/F table for the Bosch LSM11 (002 type) wideband sensor which is by all accounts a very well known sensor. I need to input the voltage table into the F-Con Pro software so I can use the self-learning map facility. The F-Con is only designed to be PnP self-learn with the NTK wideband sensor which I don't have at the moment. Any help muchly appreciated. I've done a quick search on Google and seen quite a few threads but not the chart I need. Cheers Nathan TDI PLC

Nope. It's not interested in whether the 2nd cat is there, 1st cat or anything else other than comparing it's output to the first sensor. Read the UK spec workshop manual and you'll understand. Again, it's your call. Personally I wouldn't put a car out of here with a cable-tied lambda. Like I said, it's 'not right', and making it right is hardly a chore for someone that knows what they are doing. In addition, even if it was left out your quote above is still stating that the readings would indeed be incorrect. You have just admitted that the ECU would be getting incorrect A/R readings if left out... Nathan TDI PLC
-
I strongly advise against tying up the 2nd lambda sensor (it's not a cat overheat sensor). The fact that Toyota allocated a fault code specifically for it (27) that doesn't just cover a wiring faliure (it also has a voltage output that the ECU is always looking for) means that it just 'isn't right' to not put it back in the pipe. You may by chance not get a fault code by leaving it swinging in the breeze but it may well be still affecting the lambda maps. Your gamble. Nathan TDI PLC

Fitting a bleed valve to the rear turbo won't achieve anything other than confusing the sequential system... Nathan TDI PLC
