  1. No the heat is exhaust side not in the engine, so that's ok.
  2. The exhaust I have is the HKS hiper. I had a look at lowering exhaust hanger brackets, but then realised my car sits low to the ground and would give me clearance problems. How much for one of those braces then Chris?
  3. Fair comment, I was just going on my past experience with my previous Supra, just a case of bad maintenance from the previous owner. It needed a new engine and the turbo bearings were shot to bits, so a replacement turbo was fitted. I later found out the owner had neglected oil changes and services. Mind you this is a bad example and as you say too many factors. I can't comment on ETGs temps on ceramics, but wouldn't that not be a problem running 1 bar in this Supras case? I know that's not what I initially said, so not trying to take you out of context Dan like Martin says you will go on gut instinct, I viewed many Supras and one tempted me, but I had a gut feeling the owner wasn't being straight with me. The one after that I bought, didn't even try to knock the price down, I just knew it was the right one. The car you are talking about seems to be setup ok and in the end you'll never know what boost it's been driven at. The only way to be sure is to buy a stocker, and as someone mentioned before on a previous thread, even that could have been modded and returned to stock. You just never know. Fire away with the questions mate, that's what this group is for.
  4. Which ones Martin? I have no problems with being corrected if it helps Dan out, wouldn't want to give him a bum steer.
  5. It must have a Fuel cut defencer to be honest, not a good idea to run 1 to 1.2 bar without one. It's actually quite a sickening feeling when you hit fuel cut, I thought I had blown the engine when I first did it, the car makes a terrible bang and it feels like you've hit something, then the dash lights up. I've been running 1 to 1.1 bar for nearly a year now on stock turbos and haven't had any problems. If the guy says he's run 1 bar and the car runs at 1 bar when you take it out, then that's ok. My only concern would be if it has a manual boost controller attached to the bleeder, this would enable him to run boost to destruction if he chose, as mentioned before you don't know what other things have been put under stress. I may sound like and old worry monger but I wouldn't want someone to buy a Supra, that someone is trying to out because they've had problems, and then pass them on to you. Blown turbos and someone then selling doesn't sit well with me. Sorry to be negative Dan, just don't want you to get landed with a big bill, parts on these cars are very exspensive to replace if something major goes.
  6. Fuel cut defencer is missing, so suspect if it has one of those it's run more than 1 bar with a manual bleed valve. 1 bar is at stock fuel cut, so can't see that that's what's caused the problem. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but ceramic turbos aren't completely ceramic, it's just the exhaust turbine that is ceramic. The rest is made from steel, aluminium and iron. The only time ceramic turbines are going to be weaker than steel turbines is if pieces of carbon or crap enters the housing. If a turbine goes it usually exits via the exhaust, his shagged turbos are probably down to neglect, i.e. no regular oil changes, turbo abuse, that's led to ruined bearings. No problem there though as it has new turbos now Find out if it has a fuel cut defencer, call me cynical but I can't see someone fitting a manual bleeder valve, just to run it up to 1 bar. I had a Trial exhaust with the 2nd cat out and ran 1 to 1.1 bar.
  7. This is a stock brace like mine. Can't tell if the car is an aero. http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/exhaust/apexi_n1/fit2.jpg
  8. Interesting that he says it blew running up to 1 bar. I would be interested to know his setup, as a cause for concern myself and probably others here running 1 bar on stock ceramics. Do you know the setup Dan?
  9. Thanks everyone. I think mine is stock so will have to find an aftermarket one, like you say pod9160, but round the other way The one in the picture actually looks slimer than the stock one I have, just need to find out what one it is. Edit: The exhaust in that picture is an Apexi
  10. So you haven't got one either then Terry? If it's safe to take off you can have it
  11. I thought that Martin, looks like I'll have to find another way to get the pipe from resting on it.
  12. This is not actually my Soop, but one from MKIV.com, my brace is very similar. Here's a different one http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/exhaust/hks_carbonti/DSC02481.jpg
  13. Can I remove this brace? Reason I ask is my exhaust is resting against it and vibrating. Was bearable before, but now it's getting on my nerves Just worried that it might be structural.

    Smoking!

There's two hills on the way to my work, and I found it odd that the car only smoked at those points, also happened when coming to a stop, again I assumed it was the oil sloshing forward and backward. Went away after draining some oil.

    Smoking!

Mine was over fill, check see if it happens after you have been up or down a hill. Took me a few months to suss that one
  16. Nice to have met you chaps, bloody nice blokes Given me a few ideas for me Soop now, mainly getting a boost controller I couldn't even get 1 bar when I left, only managed 0.95 Your Soop felt very quick Geeza at 1.2 bar, and recomfirmed how good the Autobox is.
  17. Easier than I first thought yes. I have no idea about the wiring without the harness I'm afraid mate, I can tell you the harness costs about £16. I mounted it on top of the steering column under the REV counter, the wire tucks away under the column nicely. I have ordered a Blitz Power SJ meter from Justin and will hopefully get that next week, so I will more than likely have all the wires out again and I'll try get some pictures for you if you haven't already done it by then. The HKS ones on MKIV.COM will help though.
  18. I followed the photos on the HKS installation, as it's exactly the same. Once you open up the shelf under the steering column it will all become clearer. It then just plugs into the ignition harness replacing the old one. Is it the dual turbo timer with electronic boost gauge? If so the only tricky part is running the vaccum pipe through the firewall and into the engine. Takes about 20mins or so.
  19. Did you order the harness with it? Makes life alot easier if you have.
  20. Don't be too sure those mushroom clouds can be seen from quite a distance Didn't someone on here have a number plate with "NOS" on it, and kept getting pulled over?
  21. I only suspect they made a mistake, due to the cheap quote and price I now pay, if £800 is cheap for a 32 year old with massive NCB? Anyway in truth if it went to court I'd lose. MODS and points will be declared this year, honest guv ........well maybe see what renewal I get first
  22. It should also be on the SVA certificate import papers, if the seller hasn't got one of those then walk away. Insurance companies do get confused over Supras, I very much doubt my insurance has mine down as an import, but it has RZ on my insurance papers and that's good enough for me and the courts
  23. On the service schedule it states 60,000 miles or 6 years then every 7,500 miles or 12 months. These are only inspections, so doesn't mean it's been replaced, only replaced if required.
  24. I have the front cat inplace and run 1.0 bar - 1.1 bar , seems to be a good restrictor. Maybe he has one cat in too, and went for more boost via the controller bleeder route. Not for me on stock turbos I'm afaid Good luck with it Dan, you obviously know how to get it setup once you buy it.
  25. This is where fitting bleeders doesn't make sense, obviously you need to find out about the cats. Say he had a boost controller and full decat, blew up his turbos then took it to a turbo specialist (one you mention) and they suggested taking out the boost controller and fitting bleeders to lower the boost rather than fit restrictor rings to the exhaust to stop boost creep/over boost, does that make sense to anyone? I've only ever thought bleeders as raising the boost, like shimming the wastegate on a MKIII with washers If that is the case then it seems he's made some kind of effort to stop it happening again. And why he's got a redundant boost controller. I'd say buy the car and sell me the boost controller, I'd find a use for it
