Yep the BOV has gone, happened on my MKIII Turbo when I upped the boost. It won't effect your boost, that's why you are still hitting 1.25 bar. I very much doubt a stock BOV could take 1.25 bar for long.

What intercooler fits without removing the active spoiler?
Andrew replied to Andrew's topic in mkiv Technical
That was quick, thanks I'm in favour of your SMICs Chris, as ripping out a £2000 spoiler seems a bit silly to me I only ever plan to run 1.2 bar anyway. Does anyone know how good the stock intercooler is, i.e performance parts quote bhp figures, the HKS S type is good for 500bhp etc. What would the stock intercooler be good for? Or am I barking up the wrong tree -

Sent you a mail Chris. Thanks. -
I know you can get the active spoiler to stay down when you fit front mounted intercoolers, but I'd like mine to be active if possible. There is a Greddy intercooler that fits in the stock postion, are these anygood? Would adding a water injector to it, give similar effects as a large intercooler?

If you want a J-spec, you might find you won't be able to get full Toyota history. You normal only get the service history that's been done in this country. An example from the Toyota garage I had my Supras serviced from........"I'd like a quote for a clutch on a Supra MKIV Twin Turbo?" ........."Sure, is that the 1.4 litre or 1.8 litre?" Don't go there anymore. Keep the fluids/oil changed regular and it will go forever. My MKIII turbo is still going strong at 200k + miles. Main cost is tyres, brake pads and oil changes, all of which are easy to do yourself. I've been running 1.2 bar for 2 years, with no problems. Totally over engineered car. The only problems you ever here of are blown turbos that have been running excessive boost.

That's what put me off about the importers, wanting the cash up front, deffinatly need to see and drive the car first. I went on a long journey to see a Supra, not as long as yours though. The seller advertised it as Mint condition, had curbed alloys and a whacking great dent in side. Felt like chinning the **** Eventually bought mine back from Blackburn, long old trip, except on the way back Good luck, and just keep plugging away mate.

Great story and Vid That 355 sounds fantastic, but all mouth and no trousers huh Can I ask what power you are running?

Takes time finding a good one Geoff, I spent a good 2 months. I bought mine from a member of the Supra forums, like most of the people on here, they look after their Supras. Saw a lot of shit Supras in my travels looking for mine. What price was this Supra up for? I think also when they say full conversion, it means Speedo and Foglight.

Test drive one, if you haven't already. I was sold, just climbing in the cockpit Shame JIC stopped trading, you could have test drove all kinds of Supras there. It's a pity that performance comparisions stop at the 1/4 mile, a BPU Supra is in a league of it's own above 100 mph. Handling is also exceptional, with good tyres and stock wheels, there's a good write up on the NZ supra site from a racing driver about this. Don't limit yourself to looking at UK specs only, there are some top spec J-specs out there, just need to find them and know what to look for. I looked at tons before finding mine, take your time if you can. The insurance on J-specs seems to have changed too, in my experience. I paid £650 for my UK spec MK3 Turbo and £750 for my J-spec MK4 Twin Turbo, work that one out, the MK3 was only worth £2500 Good luck with your search.

It's not an exact sience,as all supras are different, but you will run about 1.3 bar. I started to hit 1.4 bar, that's when I asked Chris for a restrictor ring, and said I wanted to run 1.2 bar. The restrictor was dead on the money at 1.2 bar I was tempted to go the electronic boost controller route, but decided the temptation to whack the boost up was too great a risk

Hmmm active spoiler would make sense, seems this error code only comes on when I'm going fast, i.e. over 60 when the spoiler comes down. Never thought of that s3upra thanks I'll check the delimiter wires too, just to make sure there's no dodgey conections.

Anyone know where the speed sensor is located? Did a diagnostic test and got engine code 42 flashing back at me.
-
Cheers Adam I'll bear that in mind, don't want to mess with the handling. I'll post on the US boards, someone is bound to know over there.

Any ideas what make these are? Look very similar too these Volk GT-Ps, only the outer rim design looks slightly different. http://www.mvpmotorsports.com/Merchant/volk_gtp.jpg I'm a lover of multi spokes, but these caught my eye on MVPMotorsports.com. Whilst I'm posting, would you say go for 17' or 18' , I have to consider that I might lower the car another 1.5 inchs from Jap stock springs, would 18's be a problem? Thanks all.
-
Sounds similar to me mate. For some stupid reason I allowed Toyota to service my car, the oil they use is too thin. This was when the smoking started. Did an oil change myself and put Valvoline 5w 50 back in, which is what I had in there originally. Problem solved You may still get a little smoke if the seals are worn, but it won't be so bad with the thicker oil, worked for me.

Paul, my clutch has also slipped a couple of times in the high rev range and in 4th gear, seems to be when I'm producing the most torque. I went to find out what bhp the stock clutch can take, and the consensus was up to 450bhp. I have a post about this subject somewhere on here, and Chris Wilson mentioned some new up rated clutches he can fit for around £550. I phoned Toyota and got quoted £600.

Looks like FMIC is the way to go then. Just been looking at some on the market, one of the Greddy intercoolers seems like an obvious choice, as it fits without having to remove the active spoiler. Prices are a little steep in this country, guess I could import from the states. The cars a 95' so may as well get a new upgraded pump too. Thanks for your help.
-
I plan to stay on 1.1 - 1.2 bar, so would you say sorting the fueling is important or not necessary at those boost levels? I have been reading you get good gains bhp wise with an FMIC, 50 bhp hike being a claim on MKIV.com. But to be honsest my main aim is to protect the engine, not gain more power. Guess the good thing with fitting an FMIC it's something I can do myself.
-
AFR or Intercooler, what should be my priority? I'm not running big boost or power anymore due to a restrictor ring in place, that's reduced boost from 1.4 down to 1.1 - 1.2. Would an AFR with an upgraded fuel pump, have any effect with the smaller Jap injectors? Or would they need to be changed too? Or Would it be in the best interests of my engine to have an upgrade intercooler first?
-
Thanks Chris, no rush mate, it has only slipped a couple of times, I'm sure I can lay off the throttle for awhile
-
Just read the ad Chris. I take it that's £375 + £175 to fit? What do you charge for a stock clutch? Thanks for the help everyone, I can sleep better now
-
To be honest Michael I can't tell if it would do it in 5th or 6th, as I haven't pushed it that far, no doubt it probably would. Odd that it doesn't do it in 3rd though, that's a fairly long gear? Well long enough to hit max torque. I'm hoping it's what you say Tony, I'm on a stock clutch at the moment and have no idea what bhp I'm running, I'm only on 1.3 bar so cant be that high to warrant upgrading the clutch?
-
When I'm in 4th gear (only seems to happen in 4th) and accelerating hard to around 4000/5000 rpm I get a slight slip, as if the gearbox has disengaged from the engine, only happens for a split second, the engine revs freely then engages the engine again. It's as if you are flying along and suddenly whack your foot on the clutch for a second then take it off. The whole process is very smooth, no banging or juddering. I suspect an iffy clutch, but doesn't happen in any other gear or at low or even high speeds, only when I'm booting it. Any ideas?

Was a bit jammy Power wise it feels the same as 1.4 bar, if there is more power I can't notice the difference. Running up to 1.3 bar was fine, but when it started to creep to 1.4 I started getting missfires, and it ran like a pig. Was going to re-gap the plugs, but that's just hidding the problem to be honest Anyway I can run it harder now, without worrying too much. Like you Neil I was considering changing the fueling and adding an FMIC, but I think the only way you are going to go faster is with a large Single or Big Twins.
