  1. Absolutely We stayed near Crianlarrich, as we have for the past three years now. The road up to John O' Groats is fun (except when you get there it is a bit of a nothing place) and the road from Tongue to Bonar Bridge is really desolate Pretty much all over is brilliant but the best route is from where we were to Fort William across Rannoch Moor and through Glen Coe. It is some 50 plus miles but if someone wanted a loaf of bread I'd be tempted to go and get one for them. Even more fun now as last year the Supra was pure stock.
  2. After driving some 3,000 miles in Scotland in the past 3 weeks I finally saw a Supra outside the hospital in Fort William. Anyone here.. ? (Scotland is SUCH a great place to drive !!)
  3. Really Smart! I love the night view My Supra is at Whifbitz right now:)

    hey people

Welcome to the world of the Supra! When it comes to insurance renewal, try "A Plan"
  5. Terrible! Huge condolences to the family.....
  6. Great place to go -- still no speed limits outside of towns afaik

    Walki Talkies.

If you need to talk to someone 2 miles away (or even 1) the legal ones will definitely not work for you I'm afraid. By all means get some from Argos but I assure you you will be taking them back under the 16 day gurantee. Aside from a better phone deal there are only four options radio wise, I can think of... 1. A licensed PMR set (not cheap) these are much more powerful than the licence free ones. 2. Get a Radio amatuer licence (exam pass required ) then you can talk across huge distances. 3. Get a CB set and licence (not sure about the range of these but some might be ok) 4. Just acquire some decent two way hand held radios This last option will potentially end up with you being tracked down and prosecuted though

    Walki Talkies.

Just be aware that the legal ones that use the UK "licence free" 446 Mhz frequeny allocation, usually say "up to 2 km range" This is about as factual as stating that a standard Nissan Micra can keep up with a Supra on a motorway. That said if you only need to use them for a short distance they can be fine.
  9. REALLY grateful for these posts, thanks. I am back on the track I thought I was now and aim to get this done in the next few weeks. Needless to say I am looking forward to it
  10. Please don't groan too much at yet another query re BPU I really thought I "got" this till tonight when I saw my umpteenth post on the topic. I have a TT RZ Auto As I understand it I need the following: 1. decat pipes, with a restrictor ring 2. fuel cut defencer, 3. uprated fuel pump, probably a Walbro. 4. NGK Iridium spark plug set. and lastly proabably a boost guage and maybe a new intercooler HOWEVER, I saw a post tonight where somone has the above AND a boost controller My question is this ...If a boost controller ONLY boosts and does not restrict in any way and a restrictor ring restricts the boost how can a boost controller have any purpose, as surely it cannot restrict the boost and equally it cannot boost beyond the restrictive properties of the ring?? I have seen sites saying that a boost controller gives an extra 20HP but does this refer only to UK spec as there is no reference to a ring. Also any recommendations as to a good installer where I could get this done preferably including a service would be appreciated (a sensible distance from West London) Thanks Peter
  11. Just saw this thread in time Here are the Red arrows from my garden 10 mins ago:)
  12. MANY years ago, when I was a kid, outside my parents house there was a flood of around a foot or so of water. Most cars were ploughing sensibly and slowly through it. Then this Jag came ploughing into it at some loony speed like 20mph plus and sent water all over the gardens on both sides of the road. He then came to a steamy embarassing halt, having totally flooded everything under his bonnet. Then, seconds later a VW beetle drove into it not quite as fast as the Jag but much faster than everyone else, fairly dramatic bow wave.... all the way through and off into the distance ..... really funny.
  13. Interesting I cannot see how very slow movement could cause such wear. HOWEVER where I park at work is a real pain and I am forever having to manoeuvre in tight spaces due to defective and/or unauthorised parking by others. I try to move the car while steering to protect the steering mechanisms but I have not thought of this wearing the tyres. Hmm an expense claim comes to mind....... Peter
  14. thanks for the replies My toe in looks pretty much in the middle (or was) I will certainly look at the wheels inmotion site tonight Watford is not far from me as luck would have it. Peter
  15. I know this is not the first post on this topic but I have read them all and still cannot fathom the differences of these figures.. Hence I would very much appreciate some help as to whether there is anything I can do to stop ruining my tyres after some 5000 miles. I have a JZA80 TT which has now eaten three sets of front tyres Last year I had everything checked and adjusted and thought that was it...... However each front tyre has now virtually no tread for an inch plus all the way round the inner edge. (235 40 17) (AGAIN) the rest of the tyre has 3 or 4 mm's of tread I have dug out the report from last years service and it is as follows:- Caster left was 3degrees o9' adjusted to 3degrees 08' Caster Right was 3degrees 29' adjusted to 3degrees 21' Camber Left was -0degrees 12' adjusted to -0degrees 01' Camber Right was -0degrees 37' adjusted to -0degrees 32' Toe Left was 0degrees 14' adjusted to 0degrees 01' Right was 0degrees 28' adjusted to -0degrees 01' The rear tyres have worn fine and these were adjusted to Camber Left -1degree 13' Right -2degrees 18' Toe Left 0degrees 07' Right 0degrees 12' Thrust angle was 0degrees adjusted to -0degrees 02' From the quoted spec these all seem within tolerance but if someone can point me to an answer I will be eternally grateful. I have avoided speed bumps at anything but a crawl and have not kerbed it so hopefully nothing should have changed much? Peter
  16. THE best place to drive in the UK has to be Scotland. Even in the height of summer (other than Saturday) there is not too much traffic and the roads are so great that the odd car in front is easily soared past! Then when you do not need to stare at the road 100%, the scenery is superb
  17. Another plus is that I often get people letting me in to a queue of traffic more than I ever have since having my Supra. I am convinced it is often so they can find out what car it is!

    tyres

I have just looked at the michelin site again and whilst the "check available size list" clearly does not include my 17 in size or for that matter your rear tyre size when you look at the reccommendations for the car they clearly imply that they do ! I take it you recommend these highly? (Albeit yours are larger) Peter

    tyres

I have always been a fan of michelin tyres however they do not seem to do this size in pilot sport I am begining to go towards the Bridgestones Peter

    tyres

Sorry another tyre thread (I know there are MANY) I need two front 235 45 17 tyres for my Twin Turbo auto (1994) It currently has Bridgestone RE 040 tyres and although they have a bit of tread left the off side one has a nail in it and needs pumping every other day (and besides this each time i think of using the right pedal i think of the nail!) The dry grip of these tyres seems amazing to me but I have only experienced these tyres to date. From looking at threads i have decided on SO3's or Goodyear Eagle F1's The rear 255's will be replaced in few months Can i have some opinions on which please and then i can stop pumping and start driving properly again thanks Peter
