  3. Absolutely. Started with an NA, then converted it to a VVTi TT (just an intermediate stage, I don't think he ran it like that), then converted that to a VVTi single T.
  4. lockys96: nice avatar, but it's a bit fast to see what's going on. Oh yeah, and I say it like "G Reddy"
  5. Gavan (tdaxgav) converted an auto NA to a single turbo about a year ago, starting with a VVTi TT engine dropped into the NA body. I know this is somewhat different to what you're intending to do, but it's the only example I can think off of the top of my head. I think one or two other people may have done NA to TT, but I can't think who. From what people have said, I don't think it's cheap or trivial. If you're keen on spannerwork, then it could be a fun project, but I wouldn't do it if you hate being in the engine bay of a car. Hope that helps a bit. Edit: oh, and welcome, BTW!

    Exhaust

Hi Ian, Thanks for the offer! I'll see if I can get p_jay's old exhaust (kind of first come first bought, I suppose!), 'cos I don't want to trade anyone off against each other. If I can't get hold of it, I'll certainly come back to you. Cheers Steve

    Exhaust

Perfect. I'm in Basingstoke, so it'd be easy for me to pick it up in person. Is the backbox in good nick too? I've been offered a new stock one, but if yours is in good nick I'll take it along with the rest of the system. I'll PM you in the next day or so with details. Steve

    Exhaust

Thanks guys. As ever, really good tips here. I'll check out Powerflow and Mongoose. pjay: that sounds very tempting indeed. When do you think you'll be changing the system over? (I'm in no hurry, just curious). Could I have first dibs on that please? PM me a price if you've got one in mind. Steve

    Exhaust

The exhaust system (back box, cats, etc) on my supe is starting to rust away: they've probably got a year or two left, but thinking about replacing them sometime. I don't want any performance-enhancing mods like a decat, and don't want a big tail pipe either. My options seems to be: 1) Get a 2nd hand exhaust system, although that will have started to rust as well. Also, do cats deteriorate if left as spare parts in a garage? 2) Get a new stock system from Mr T. Downside is it's VERY expensive for what you get (i.e. rust-prone). This would be fine if they didn't charge quite so much. 3) Get a new stainless system from somewhere that's as close to stock as possible. This would be good, budget allowing. Any thoughts, especially on whether buying 2nd hand cats is worth it or not? Does anyone have any standard-ish aftermarket systems they recommend? It's an NA I want it for. Thanks, Steve

    blow out

Not really. Most good tyre places have the tools to do this all the time. Many, many people lose their wheel nut key.
  11. Thanks CJ. Please count me in. 1) Terawua 2) Paul 3) JohnA 4) Pixelfill 5) Pete 6) SteveR 7) Colsoop. Please 8) Supraloopy. Please 9) Weinelm. 12. Hi CJ, any news about what skill level these are pitched at? If they're anything other than super-experienced mechanic, I'll be interested in a copy. I bought some really cheap "workshop manuals" for the mkiv a while ago on fleaBay, and they're no help whatsoever. You get what you pay for, I guess...
  13. Thanks CJ. Please let me know what sort of skill level it's pitched at: if it's not too tricky (e.g. Step 1: remove engine with an A-frame lift or crane which, of course, everyone has in their garage ) then I'd like one too!
  14. For many people, that's correct! But for monkies like me, I get overwhelmed when step 1 of a procedure says "Unlink the thruxpow multicoupler from the mainframe."
  15. Mmm, very interesting..... I assume it covers the NA (seeing as it covers the W58 gearbox), am I correct? I'm used to Haynes manuals, and my DIY motor maintenance is at a similar level! Are they aimed at hardcore mechanics, or is there anything for the "little people" like me?
  16. What sort of exhaust does it have? I'm after one with cats.
  17. I only feel sore the next morning, or sometimes the day after if I haven't been doing much exercise recently. I agree that if it goes on longer than that, you're probably doing damage. I also limit myself to 3 times max a week.
  18. Damn, missed that thread.
  19. Yes, I 100% agree! After I train, whether it's martial arts or gym, I love that slightly sore feeling. It feels like you've really done some good (perverse, I know). I didn't get it with swimming though, maybe it's gentler on the muscles. A good tip for those who are trying to control food portion size: buy smaller dinner plates. If you've got a plate the size of a dustbin lid, it's too easy to fill it with food. Try a smaller one, and it'll be much easier to bring portion sizes down. Buy a skipping rope if you want a really cheap way of doing cardio exercising. PS In case anyone thinks I'm super fit, I'm not! I've just been keeping exercise 'ticking over' for the last 2 years, but I want to ramp up the gym a bit in time for summer.
  20. You'll get limescale build-up in your coolant system, which can potentially block up very small waterways (e.g. in the radiator). How long before it causes a problem? As JohnA said, it depends where you live. But you can avoid the problem by using distilled water which won't cause limescale at all.
  21. The speed will currently be limited to 112mph: the ECU is responsible for doing this. AFAIK the Thor delimiter (good choice of delimiter by the way!) will completely remove any limit, so it should accelerate until the engine runs out of puff. That happens at quite a high speed, so I'm led to believe! It fools the ECU into thinking the car is travelling at just below 112mph when it is well over this figure, so the car will keep on pulling.
  22. Thanks Chris, but I'm based in Basingstoke, Hants. Good info though!
  23. My manual NA can be difficult to get into gear when cold (especially 1st and 2nd gear). After a couple of minutes of driving, it gets much easier. It's been like this for as long as I've had the car (1 year). The clutch doesn't slip though, I've tested that. Is this a common problem? If so, is there a remedy, or is it just a "feature" of the W58 'box? Thanks, Steve
  24. I'm still a bit naive about exhausts, but am I right in thinking the cats are the pipes that are underneath the car? By saying you've sold the exhaust, do you mean the backbox? Basically, I'm looking to replace my exhaust sometime due to rust. If you've got exhaust (cats?) parts that would fit my NA, then I'd be interested if in good nick.
