  1. Welcome to the club! With my non-turbo supra, I get 25mpg on everyday use. I'm gentle with the throttle, so on a combined cycle I doubt you'd get much better. I've heard that the supra can get into the low 30s if you cruise the motorway a lot, but this kind of figure doesn't allow for any town driving at all!

    A few probs

Welcome to the club Phillw454. Wow, I always thought that locking button thing locked the electric windows in position, rather than the doors. Learn something new every day.... As michael said, Toad is a very popular alarm system on these cars. You may be able to operate the door locks with the button in the door, but I've heard it's best to use the remote (something to do with keeping the alarm in sync with the door lock solenoids, but I don't think it matters too much). To unlock the doors, just try pressing the unlock button on the remote fob.
  3. I can't be bothered trawling through 12 pages of small talk: can anyone let me know the post number that has any hovis shots in it? (proper ones, not just a piccy of the bakery aisle in tesco's!) Oh yes, welcome to the club "Miss ?" I take it anonymity's your thing, with a username like that! Edit: not quite so anonymous. I've just read post #166.

    8pm tonight

You need to get your lady under control, man! Show her who the boss is. Frankly, the behaviour you described is not good enough. I hope she made a good job of cleaning your car. Doesn't she know that Top Gear is on at 8pm??
  5. It doesn't help with your specific question guys, but I just wanted to make sure you saw this (a how-to): http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=51682&highlight=starter+motor
  6. Wow, that was quick! You chaps are the dogs' danglies! I'll have a go at these suggestions later.
  7. I've asked this question on a Playstation forum, but it's like Tumbleweed on there and I haven't got any response at all. I'm trying to run a freeware BBC Micro emulator (yeah I know, you youngsters were probably not even born when these computers came out!) on my slimline PS2. I've got the emulator software burned onto a CD-RW, but I can't boot it up. When I put the emulator into the PS2's CD drive, the PS2 says it can't read the disc. Here's an extract from the readme.txt file that comes with the emulator: ****** quote Having created the CD, boot it with your favourite method, typically this involves swapping with an AR / GS CD. If the CD has been created properly you will see the Beeb's logo appear. Once the user-interface has loaded use your PS2 controller to move up and down the menu, press X to select and 'triangle' to cancel. Alternatively, if you have a USB keyboard, use the cursor keys to navigate the menu, press RETURN to select and ESCAPE to cancel. Select "run emulation" after loading a disk or state. To return to the user-interface, press the START button on your controller or press the PAUSE button on your keyboard. ****** end of quote I'm confused what it means by "boot it with your favourite method, typically this involves swapping with an AR / GS CD". I've managed to figure out that AR means Action Replay, and GS means Gameshark. I've bought an AR cheat CD for a random game (Gran Tourismo 4), hoping that I could use it to boot the PS2, then swap the CD for the emulator one when prompted to do so. The AR CD booted fine, but when the PS2 prompted me to insert the GT4 CD and I inserted the emulator one, it just did nothing. Just a blank screen. Has anyone got any ideas how I can boot up the PS2 so I can use the emulator? I want to keep the PS2 completely standard. Many thanks for any suggestions you can make. Steve
  8. You're all putting me to shame! My sister in law is Japanese, so if anyone's got an incentive, it's me! I've tried (in a half-hearted way), but didn't get anywhere. If you really want to give it a go, I guess just set aside a bit of time regularly, and you'll soon be speaking a bit.
  9. Yep, still sounds like the starter contacts. Here's what I had at the time: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=78173. This thread has the part numbers too. When I had it, de-immobilising the car (even though it was already de-immobilised) sometimes worked, although the fault didn't turn out to be anything to do with the immobiliser.
  10. I recognise those symptoms. I've had this on my supe. Sometimes the car would fire up (just about), and sometimes it wouldn't even turn the engine over at all. The starter motor contacts on mine needed relacing. All I heard was a single click from the engine bay when trying to crank it. Mr T does a kit that supplies the necessary parts. It cost approx £15. Before you do this though, I would recommend seeing if anyone's got a battery you can substitute for yours, to eliminate the problem being caused by a duff battery.
  11. My girlfriend's dad helped me with mine (he does decorating etc for a living), but..... Measure the room size, and order enough packs of flooring to cover it. Sometimes best to order an extra pack or so, because you won't be able to use very small off-cuts for much. Most of the pieces, you can just clip in without cutting. You'll only need to cut the ones that butt up against a door or something, so that they fit. The best thing for the skirting is to remove it completely, fit the flooring, then re-fit the skirting so that the flooring goes underneath it. If you don't want to do that, leave a small gap (1cm?) between the edge of the flooring and the skirting, then buy some plastic trim from the flooring shop to fit in the gap. The gap is VERY important, because it gives the flooring room to expand when it gets warm!!!
  12. Strewth! That's quick! Who was it?
  13. Newgendesign: You beat me to it! I was going to say that there's a chromed bezel / nut on the outside of the bodywork that unscrews, but I think you've found that out already! If the motor itself is working, you should hear it make a whirring sound when you turn your radio on. The sound will last for 3 or 4 seconds after turning on (or off) the radio. If it makes a noise that sounds like it's trying to do something, chances are your motor is OK. If not, it probably need a new motor... The most common problem with these aerials is that there's a toothed nylon cord that runs through the centre of the mast, and this cord can snap after a few years' use. When mine broke, I removed the old mast and the motor from the car. I think it's best to remove the motor, because then you can open it up and remove any old pieces of cord that have been left behind. Top tip: If this turns out to be the case (i.e cord has broken), make sure you observe whether the teeth face inwards or outwards before you remove the old one. You can deduce it just by looking at how the motor operates, but it's not as easy, and also the official toyota manual actually states the wrong way to fit it! PS if the cord has snapped and the motor sounds like it's trying to do something, try undoing the chrome nut, and get a friend to pull *gently* on the mast when the radio's on. You may find the old mast will pop right out, which is what you want.
  14. Sorry affney. Hope you find one soon.
  15. Helpful as ever guys, thank you!
  16. Just out of interest..... I've just swapped the cushion parts on my front seats, and I noticed that the old set had "kind of" separate headrests (although the headrests don't seem to adjust or come off). On the new set, the headrests are very definitely not separate, they are integral to the seat back. I just wondered if one style was facelift style or anything like that. Neither are Recaros or anything else fancy.

    Hey all

    Welcome to the club Jasmine!
  18. Rob: (look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, the eyes, you're under.... you will realise that you don't need the motors or drive cogs at all, but instead you need another set of plastic trim for the front seats. Luckily for you, there is a set for sale here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=94542 ....3, 2, 1 you're back in the room)
  19. MKIVDreamer: no reply from affney, so it's yours if you want it. Is £5 + P&P OK? It's small and feather-light, so P&P should be minor. If OK, PM me your postal address and I'll do likewise.
  20. hah ha! I like your style! Not 100% sure what a circlip is, but I think it might be one. It's a circular metal clip where you have to unhook one end from a notch on the shaft to get it to unclip.
  21. I've got a spare set of plastic trim for both stock (cloth ones, if it makes a difference) front seats. The only bits I don't have are the wheel that adjusts the driver's seat height, and the two small toggle switch covers that adjust the driver's seat backwards/forwards and recline it. The set includes both plastic covers that tilt the seat forward. I'm not sure what these are realistically worth, so please PM me with offers if you're interested. I can post photos if required. Thanks
  22. affney, I've got a spare one if you're still looking.
  23. ooo, 5k sounds a bit low for a looked-after clean TT. I would say that's definitely NA territory (I know you said in your 1st post that turbos don't matter much to her).
