  1. I've got a Netgear DG834G: seems fine.
  2. What condition is the gearstick in, and is it standard? Pref. post upa photo of it, then I'll be able to make an offer.

    atom

Well, I did a physics degree but at uni they didn't explain anything as interesting as that! Wavelength sounds like a plausible explanation. Yes, an atom is mostly empty space. I didn't see the TV programme but it's reckoned that if an atom is the size of the Albert Hall, then the nucleus is something like the size of a pea. AJI, this'll bake your noodle : light is considered to be both a particle and a wave. It's called (dah-dah) wave-particle duality. It's particle-like behaviour only becomes apparent at low light levels though.
  4. Are you still selling the gear knob? And the gearstick surround trim?
  5. If you don't get it sorted, you soon won't hear any cranking either! Seriosuly though, in my experience the problem seems fairly stable. Assuming it is the contacts, it's unlikely to get worse fast. I used to have to have a few goes at turning the key before it would even crank slightly. In the back of my mind was the thought that, one day, it wouldn't want to know no matter how many times I tried.
  6. Still sounds like starter motor contacts to me. I've had this happen, and the fault can be very intermittent. One day you'll be able to crank the car just fine, the next day it'll be as if the battery is flat as a pancake.
  7. Why does it take 3 women with PMS to change a light bulb? It just does, OK???
  8. For 3 out of 4 weeks, anyway.
  9. I can hear the can o' worms opening right now....
  10. As Chris said, replacing the whole starter motor is usually not necessary. Toyota sell just the bit 'n' bobs needed to reburb it. Costs about £15 from Mr T I think. There's a FAQ about how to do it on here somewhere. I didn't follow it when mine needed doing, I chickened out and paid someone else more mechanically-minded to do the work! Edit: here's the FAQ: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=51682
  11. Myspace reminds me of when the internet first became popular (for those of you old enough to remember). A lot of people thought it would be really cool to set up your own web site telling the world who you are and what amazing things you've been doing. Having your own web page was de-rigeur. It didn't take long for most of those people to get bored of it and abandon them. I wouldn't be surprised if Myspace goes the same way.
  12. That's an action-packed day.

    Hiya

Ma'am. Did you and NicolaJane travel down together? (or maybe I imagined that bit )
  14. Welcome to the club! Good to hear you've come in from the dark side!
  15. Sounds like you're describing a specific model of speed converter. Others exist that are fitted differently. *I think* some exist that are fitrted into the transmission tunnel, although they're unusual. Also, not all speed converters double-up as SLDs.
  16. The speed converter should be either behind the dash clocks, or behind the odometer. If you didn't have a problem before fitting the HKS SLD, then the problem is unlikely to be your speed converter. You could try removing the SLD and see if the problem is still there. When SLDs or speed converters are wired correctly, they shouldn't give rise to engine management warnings. At worst, all you should have is overly-light steering, which is due to how the speed signal gets limited and/or converted. The better ones eliminate this too.
  17. Not bein funny, but do you know what a SLD looks like? They can be pretty small. The biggest I've seen them is matchbox sized. The smallest looks like a rectangular piece of chewing gum with 2 or 3 wires coming out of it. I don't think fitting a different speedo will help. If the stock spedo doesn't work properly, neither will an aftermarket one. Sorry I can't be more help.

Well, I don't think anyone's seen me and Ed in the same room together.

    Getting warmer.....!
  20. Ahhh Gav. I have a perfectly reasonable explanation, honestly.....!
  21. Are you sure it's not 4 then 2, instead of 2 then 4? Watch out for the long pause which (if I remember correctly) denotes the start of the number. Thor SLDs used to be very good: not sure if they make them anymore though. If you don't get any definitive instructions on how to wire the HKS one, start a new thread to ask members which SLD they recommend. Code 42 error is often caused by a faulty speed converter or SLD, or one that's been incorrectly wired.
  22. Yeah I felt like a big girl's blouse when I realised what was wrong!
  23. Note sure. Have a look at this: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=988347&postcount=35 It talks about DSC rather than the SLD, but they are very similar devices. My combined DSC+SLD took 12v from behind the dashboard, but it looks like pin 2 on the ECU plug is the speed signal that needs to be clamped or limited.

Crikey. Thanks for the heads-up Doug. *steps away carefully from the Rampant Rabbit*
