It's just a perfect smartphone. It's a phone, it's very smart, but to use it's like a feature-phone and less smartphone like (i.e. annoying all around the houses menus). It has 3.5G like the N95. It has a great keypad, it has S60v3 fp2 (9.2) like the N95. The S60 keys have been redesigned so they are of use now. The screen is bright. The battery life is good. It has more RAM than the regular N95 and a faster processor (although only one of them) than the N95. It looks better than an N95 and it's more comfortable to use than an N95. It's without doubt a better smartphone than the N95. It's just not as good a movie player as the N95.

It's definitely different strokes for different folks, but I think you are missing the point of what a "Smartphone" is. A smartphone is a PDA/phone hybrid (IMO)

Delicate as in drop it and it wounds easily. The keys are an odd shape, and the whole keypad is located within an irritating recess. More importantly the keys don't travel enough, just like on the E65. Re: PDA territory, well.. yeah. They call it a "mobile computing device", so I'd expect to be able to do those business things.

Screen is the perfect size for a laptop. 14.1" is the sweet spot. I have 14.1" SXGA+ on mine. My mum isn't ripping DVDs either so 60gb is fine. It's all much better than anything I could have bought new for anything like that money.

N95 is far too delicate, has poor battery life, doesn't support the business applications properly and has a poor keypad like the E65.

I just got a nice deal for my mum's birthday off eBay. HP Compaq nc6230 1.86GHz Centrino/Pentium-M 1.5gb RAM 14.1" (sweet spot IMO) 60gb HDD DVD/CDROM Wifi Slim, reasonably well made thinkpad-like-ish XP Pro COA, upgraded to Vista ultimate £166

Nokia E51. It's just the daddy. Well, actually, the iPhone is the daddy really, but it's missing some serious features like 3.5G (or even 3G) and business email & PIM connectivity (Blackberry, Exchange Activesync).

I would start by uninstalling Norton Antivirus/Internet Security/360 and see how that improves things. Alternatively, the hard drive might be knackered. Check the System event log for red disk errors.

I still think it would be great if we could have some pansy fairy words which automagically replace blacklisted words. I understand the forum software doesn't have that facility out of the box, but it'd be nice and fun to look into an addon to do it.
