  1. Very lucky. So, why are you a dick? What's the big no-no here? Attempting to jack up the rear of the car with the front on ramps? I don't have ramps, although I do have to drive onto a plank of wood to get the jack under the front. I have been thinking though that I need more room underneath, so what's the best idea? Axle stands on all four corners or what? I haven't really actually put my car on axle stands much before, I hold it with the jack and have the axle stands there ready to catch it if it falls.
  2. That's what I was thinking..
  3. contact the buyer and ask for him to pay again.. or is he trying to have you over?
  4. Damn. One day I'll start earning real money and I'll buy a place..
  5. Hardcore. Do you have a nice garage for doing all this stuff Jake?

    Sat Nav again

I've installed TomTom for a couple of people on these. Can't comment on that GPS device though but it generally works with most. You could buy the genuine TomTom bluetooth GPS device for that money though.
  7. That's the difficult bit at the moment. Cut a hole in the door-mirror glass and have a small pin-hole type camera mounted inside the mirror with its lens pointing through? But it'd be hard to direct the angle though. Maybe I could just scrape off a small amount of the reflective backing of the glass so it looks through that part of the mirror. Any ideas?

  9. What I want is a proximity sensor which triggers some 3 or 4 cameras to flash and take about ten pictures of the fuckers so I know who to look for.
  10. Well it does, and I usually do (actually I just hide it in the car), but they will still break your window if there is a suction mark on the windscreen. I have been wanting to in-dash mount my tomtom for ages - cut a square where the clock hole is and move the clock elsewhere. I hadn't got around to doing it because I was thinking about how to make a nice facia through which to put the bolts. Plus with the new widescreen TomToms out now, I was hoping to sell mine and buy one of them. ho hum.
  11. same as last time.. sat nav taken. I wonder if anyone has a peice of glass going cheap?
  12. Drop-links? (AKA anti-roll-bar links AKA stabiliser-bar links). about £34 each from Toyota.
  13. She's thick. Thickness I can stand, it's just the attitude that goes with it that bugs me.
  14. I get this with the girlfriend all the time. She's always 'telling' me that I'm in the wrong gear and that I should be in 3rd gear. (this is in a 5spd 2.5ltr straight-six Z4, just shy of 2k rpm in 4th). I can't get across the point that I'm not accelerating, I'm not loading the engine, it's just rolling along. She doesn't understand why I might change down a gear when overtaking on the motorway either. It's quite annoying because she scorns that I'm damaging her car, and "how would you know, you drive an auto". She's been driving about a year.. She doesn't understand what RPMs and gears actually mean, all she knows is that when she asked someone what gear you should be in at a given speed, they told her a number.

    Another joke

Reminds me of the SouthPark episode - Special Olympics
  16. You don't need a new starter, just the starter motor solenoid repair kit. Have a read through here
  17. I'm about to have some of the stir fry I made last night Arnie and Franco say lots of small meals is the way forward but when I'm hungry I just eat 'til I'm full up.

    Weird hook!

I swapped my black mats for cream ones and the holes don't fit / line up any more. Just something to bear in mind.
  19. The starters go bad after ~11 years The common problem is the solenoid contacts being burnt out, but the symptoms here are a loud CLICK. It yours making the clicking noise when it doesn't start? If not, then perhaps it is your immobiliser.

  21. Good machines these. I've had D600s and D610s, both very good. Do you know if the screen is XGA or SXGA+? Also is the 'cd drive' just a cdrom drive, or dvdrom, or cdrw/dvd or dvdrw?
  22. I was thinking that. I tried it on them anyway and it did sweet FA. Torque Wrench is due to arrive tomorrow, but I used my breaker bar on six of the nuts and they were already FT. I suspect my full-lock three-point-turn clunking is just due to my wide tyres..
  23. I see that according to http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/general_maintenance/mo14.jpg the subframe bolts need to be tightened to 148 lb/ft & 92 lb/ft. The Impact Wrench I just bought (DeWalt DW292), is rated at 345lb/ft and doesn't offer any low or high settings. Should I not bother? Just use a breaker bar, or what? I know nothing about impact wrenches, but I was thinking perhaps they work over time, e.g. so a short blast wouldn't do it up too tight, but holding it on there would do the full 345ft/lb. It's pissing it down now anyway
  24. I wondered why everyone makes a fuss, but I guess that's why. In my case it just went straight on at zero. My speedo overreads by a healthy 10%.
